@@allange3585 The total number of employees at the BOP was only 36,697 as of the end of 2022, as far as I can see on the publically available databases, and has been dropping annually. Not 40,000. And they aren't all guards. Someone has to be in charge of that monitoring. Barring the responsibility for that aspect of the program having been delegated to another person below her, the Director bears that duty. She should know how well it is working. That's her job.
Regardless of who signs the bills authorizing them, all federal programs require monitoring, to assure that the intent of the legislation is being fulfilled. It is dereliction of duty for a federal officer within the Executive branch, such as the Director, to be unable to provide numbers about those programs to Congress when they are exercising their requirement of due diligence for those program funding authorizations.
And the accent of the legislator has no bearing on this whatsoever. Other Kennedys have other accents. Would you have found a Bostonian accent to be as worthy of comment? Or are you simply demonstrating a regional prejudice/bias for which style of drama you find acceptable?

They want a high level, high paying, high profile, cushy job right out of college, and they don't want to have to learn what is expected or answer to anybody. The only people I know that are able to do that are people who start their own companies, who are self-motivated, and don't have to be prodded but enjoy the perks of being their own boss. This man has numerous accolades. He is extremely intelligent so do not let the down home southern gentleman persona fool you. He is probably light years ahead of you intellectually.
Senator Kennedy graduated from Zachary High School as co-valedictorian in 1969. He then attended Vanderbilt University, where his interdepartmental major was in political science, philosophy and economics. He graduated magna cum laude. At Vanderbilt, Kennedy was elected president of his senior class and named to Phi Beta Kappa. He received a Juris Doctor in 1977 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an executive editor of the Virginia Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. In 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree with first class honours from Oxford University, where he was a member of Magdalen College and studied under Rupert Cross and John H.C. Morris.
