Taking too large of a down payment when you don’t NEED it on retail bids. If you only take your gross margin as a down payment, it’s hard to get behind. When the job is billed and paid, the final check should cover the direct costs.
Hey Adam, I have listened to hundreds of your videos (literally) and have your TRS program. I just wanted you to know, the sound on this one, isn't great and kind of difficult to hear compared to all your other stuff. I'm not sure if you changed your mic or recording program. I just wanted you to know. Love your stuff! Keep it coming.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to share your feedback! It's a new editing process that I am now going to dive into thanks to you :) Appreciate you dude. Sending my best your way.
Great information. I'm a marketing rep and am paid hourly plus I make a bit for every inspection I scheduled that gets completed. But all of our sales reps are 1099 and most are good but some destroy my paycheck because they're terrible at communicating with the customer and don't get on the roofs. I think it's because they're NOT paid hourly.
Hey Adam, I’m looking forward into becoming a sale guy. Right now I’m on referrals, meaning I do door to door and if I find a customer I refer him to one of my managers. Which makes me not a good amount of money. I only found 1 guy who has agreed to change his roof and it’s a long process. I really want to be a salesman, but I don’t have much knowledge on roof inspections. I made only 200 dollars so far and I’ve been working in this industry for over two months. What should I do Adam? I really want this to work because the thought of me wasting two months of my life for nothing will hunt me down till I die.
I admire your persistence my dude. Success in roofing sales is a formula: Getting the right person (who is a good fit for the business), doing the right sales activities every day, and saying the right thing when they pitch, present, and close. To add to that -- you need to be with the RIGHT company (a good fit for you). Many people, myself included, had a VERY slow and painful start. Too many substance abuse cases in this business. Not sure why, but,I see a lot of people succeed only to piss it away on coke, speed or alcohol. They show up and work hard in spurts then disappear, get a divorce,go to jail or whatever and maybe 6 months or a few years later show up again and TOO MANY owners think they should hire them back because they can sell roofs. Start screening your hires better, TRAIN them, set expectations and when they spin out don't bail them out by hiring them back.
What do you think is the TOP business-killing mistake?

Excellent Advice for any service company !!!
Thanks for the comment!
