this is amazing, I have multiple threaded barrels for different 9mm, was turned off by the fact that i'd have to get sights and decide what size I wanted. With the multiple configs and regular sight use, this is perfect.
i have an Odessa 9 - very, very pleased with it - it has performed well and is easy to clean up (i shoot rimfire, so you know stuff gets dirty)... my secret was a liberal swabbing w/froglube (something i don't use on my weapons, but do on my suppressors)... clean up is then a dunk in warm water with Dawn dishwashing soap and a nylon brush...
@@Mann.withtheplann due to the construction and materials, this suppressor can be easily cleaned using an ultrasonic bath, long soak in clp w/light scrubbing using nylon/brass brush, or a vinegar/peroxide soak (dangerous but effective) ; on my other suppressor, a Rebel SOS V2, which uses aluminum tubing and stainless cups affixed using Rocksett, i cannot use a hot water/detergent scrub, so i resort to a clp soak, followed up with sharpened bamboo (to clean out threading), and scrubbing with brass brush - it works, but is tedious - the Odessa-9 is *much* easier to clean - you will really appreciate the versatility and convenience of the Odessa-9 - it is a good choice - i run it on a Browning Hi-Power w/an Alpha Wolf threaded barrel, and all my rimfires
@@Mann.withtheplann that will work - on the other hand, if you only shoot 9mm out of your carbine with the odessa-9 you won't have to clean it at all due to the heat of the rounds - rimfire, on the other hand, is dirty, dirty, dirty... btw, just got back from a range session with a new SRD22X - a mighty fine Sig rimfire suppressor...
@Lee Harvey Oswald For folks that know me well, I'm very much a fan of less moving parts = less chance for failure. (I'm a direct thread over 3 lug guy for example.) That being said, in everything we've done the baffles haven't come loose at all. It does mean the user has to pay a bit more attention in putting it together, but I wouldn't worry about it coming loose.
Hey! Can you comment on the TONE of this suppressor? How does it sound? Id run it in the full 11 baffles 99% of the time.. Just as quiet as most other 9mm cans right? I feel like, because its a skinny can. I would leave it on my 9MM host gun all the time! And that's what I want. But im not sure how the TONE is, Im finding little info on this suppressor besides 1 or 2 reviews. I really want the Odessa 9... I think im going to buy it as my first suppressor, ive researched it rigorously! Day in and day out.. And I just love the looks, and design! With HUSH 165gr people are achieving 121-122dB with it DRY!
Excellent review. Question: I'm planning to buy the Dead Air Odessa-9 when Silencer Shop has them available for sale for my Glock 17. I want to be able to use the 9mm suppressor on my Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2 9mm carbine. Is the Dead Air Odessa Fixed Mount 1/2x28 SKU DA DD111 adaptor the correct one to buy for a fixed 9mm barrel? Thanks in advance.
That's an old design, long before anyone in the US did it. It's fairly common with suppressors from overseas, but just hasn't been done much in the US.
For a 9mm can I’ve always wanted to Osprey 9, I know now it’s an old design compared to all this new stuff. Would you recommend the ghost, or the Odessa over the Osprey?
They're all pretty different. The Osprey sounds good, sits low, but it's kind of a one trick pony. The Odessa is adjustable in length to whatever configuration you like, and the Ghost is more of a traditional pistol suppressor with both a long and short mode.
Your readings seem high. Dead air is claiming 8-10dB reduction with no baffles at all. So roughly 150-152dB with (0) baffles. Other reviews, have shown similar findings to dead air. Your (0) baffle setup is louder than a standard pistol with NO suppressor at all. Why is this? From what I understand running the can with no baffles, and only the end cap it takes the edge off drastically! But yours is louder than most unsuppressed guns. Im really confused.
Yes, These dB readings are way off. Another test is utilizing same ammo, and same firearm. Only your zero baffle setup is 12.5dB louder!! I wonder why your results are so loud. There bare muzzle was 159.5dB. technically you have louder gun shot with zero baffle setup lol.
I'm not sure how you're stating they are way off... They're pretty darn close to Dead Air's posted numbers. DA - (11) 126.8, (7) 133.7, (4) 143.4 vs CA - (11) 127.0, (7) 136.4, (4) 144.0 using COMPARABLE ammo. I will agree the last few seem high in comparison to the 0 or few baffle setup, but that's the numbers we got in person shooting it and from doing it in person, I would not say they seemed high compared to being there in person. The takeaway should be with 0, or just a few baffles it's no where near hearing safe.
The 11 baffle, 7 baffle, and 4 baffle numbers you posted in the video are pretty accurate. Its when the baffle setup goes from 6,5,4,3,2,1 and, no baffles at all with only the booster assembly and end cap. Theres a lot of solid evidence that only the booster and front end cap will provide around or close to a 150dB pistol with REM UMC 147Gr ammo, and at only 2.75" long, its a great selling point and it reduces sound from 8.5 to 10dB. But, in your video it shows that it does nothing at all other than maybe hide the flash. I understand different conditions and variables in equipment, and weather. Those numbers below are from another reviewer, with a average over multiple shots, on two different host. There averages across (2) different host, Numbers below are with REM UMC 147Gr. I guess im wondering now, if these other numbers are real at all with 0 baffle setup. (0) baffles 150.5dB), (1) baffle 146.4dB), (2) baffles 144.4dB), (3) baffles 143.9), (4) baffles 141.8dB), (5) baffles 140.8dB), (6) baffles 138.4dB), (7) baffles 135.8dB), (8) baffles 130.5dB), (9) baffles 128.4dB), (10) baffles 126.9dB), (11) 126.1dB)
why the fuck would anyone using a weapon for any purpose other than self defense even need a silencer? if you are using your gun lawfully and for protection you wouldn't care to keep it silent. you want to make a bang and hit your're mark letting as many people know in vacinity there is a problem. if you are in the military then they should issue silencers for spec ops missions or situations where silence must be maintained. to have this available to purchase from citizens whom should have only one reason to discharge a firearm, which is protection,is fucking stupid.this type of equipment being available to everyone is only promoting and enabling its use for criminal activity.think about it .

What stopped you from getting an Osprey?
Thank you for taking the time to meter it in every possible configuration. It really helps us find the point of diminishing returns

@@willieb6529 so if I just shoot it out of my Glock 19 I don't have to clean it at all/as much??
Good stuff as always!
Thank you!
Easy to clean, no need for large suppressor height sights, AND it takes easy to find and common SiCo pistons! Cool
Loosen? Run a brick of unplated 22lr subsonic thru it first! It will solder its self sealed! Good bye user servability!

As far as the tone, it didn't make an impression on me. I didn't notice it one way or the other... which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I want one!
Can you do the rugged obsidian 9mm?
It's in the works now.
Definitely have to be sober to use that
What else would I need to run this on a .22lr rifle or an AR9? A fixed adapter? 9mm and 22 are the two calibers I most want to suppress.
Didn't a company in El Paso come up with the idea of having each baffle to make up the tube itself?
That's an old design, long before anyone in the US did it. It's fairly common with suppressors from overseas, but just hasn't been done much in the US.
