    Thank you very much for this very interesting video presentation. In the UK they used to have slip coaches where the passenger car would be uncoupled or slipped as the train was moving to be stopped at a station by the conductor using the hand brake. Oftentimes the car would be coupled to a train going along a branch line to a destination different to the one that the original train that the car was coupled to. Very clever.

    OK as a retired railway conductor on the Santa Fe Railway in the USA I’m confused. Please explain the purpose of this operation?

      It was a test according with UIC Code (leaflet) 544-1 (BRAKES - BRAKING PERFORMANCE). For each prototype, we have to know the braking distance in case of emergency (draw hook/coupler breaking). In this video, the tested wagon was the result of a research study were partners from universities, manufacturing, laboratories etc. were involved.

      For Europe 25 tones axle load and 140 km/h running speed for freight wagons are not normal operation condition. So, those were some of study's objectives (higher running speed and higher loading capacity) among others.

      @@rollingstocklaboratory7891 that occurred to me. We had a formula to calculate the maximum speed of freight trains based on tons per operative brakes. Because of the wide variety of different freight cars especially those designed to carry shipping containers and the variety of trailer trucks loaded onto the various types of flat cars and articulated cars.
