Great to know that you just reaffirmed most of what I already knew! :) That said the real tip in this video is if I (or anyone) want(s) your attention at a convention I (they) just need to bring/offer candy. :D
You cant really say 'go for 2 colomns which is 14 points and not for 1 colour which is 10 points. There is a total of 20 of each colour every 5 rounds, so if you take 15 there is only 5 left for your opponent, most likely even less since, there has been thrown some on the floor tile. Giving your opponent such a small amount of a colour is also worth a lot of points indirectly. Also, focussing on 2 coloms means your NOT focussing on getting your 1-2-3 row filled with decent/good adjacency, which in the end adds up way more than maybe 7 points for a second line. 800 ELO on bga btw.
Thanks for the thoughts - that's an impressive ELO for sure. What seems important to me is to know all these different approaches so that we can change our tactics based on what tiles are coming out and what our opponents are doing. I'll definitely keep all your tips in mind in my next play
