- The 4B movement initially gained recognition on Twitter in 2019 and through various feminist social media accounts. One notable feature of the 4B movement, as with other Korean digital feminist movements, is that members often identify themselves as "anonymous women," as it is conventional not to disclose personal details online.
This digital movement functions as an online community where women engage in open discussion about navigating and envisioning a future without men. It serves as a platform for women to vent their frustrations and concerns about living in a conservative society while fostering a sense of solidarity. Additionally, the platform aims to motivate and inspire women to protest against dating, engaging in sexual relationships, getting married and having children. Through a robust social media presence, the movement seeks to raise awareness and recruit more advocates to amplify its impact.
The "Four No's" are:
1.no sex with men (Korean: 비섹스; Hanja: 非sex; RR: bisekseu),
2.no child-rearing (Korean: 비출산; Hanja: 非出産; RR: bichulsan),
3.no dating men (Korean: 비연애; Hanja: 非戀愛; RR: biyeonae),
4.no marriage with men (Korean: 비혼; Hanja: 非婚; RR: bihon).

Trying to make generalizations about Korean women using the 4B movement is like trying to make generalizations about all Americans based on what PETA is up to.
What pleasantly surprised me is that even the East Asian women like women in South Korea are done with patriarchy. You know what I think? We should have the 4B movement in my home country. Serbia is not a stranger to femicides.

Feminists who engage in the 4B movement are known to actively resist the various ways in which gendered expectations are enforced in a conservative society, specifically relating to child-rearing, relationships, and employment. This resistance involves not only withdrawing from dating but also rejecting prevalent gendered beauty standards and their associated consumerist practices in South Korea. In a conservative and traditional society, alternative forms of protest in the 4B movement include defying rigid beauty norms and traditional gendered expectations by shaving heads and choosing not to wear bras.
Members of the movement challenge the conventional life trajectory of marriage and family, while also condemning gender discrimination prevalent in the Korean job market, where women earn 31% less than their male counterparts, regardless of their marital or parental status.[14] The movement serves as a response to the nation's profound demographic crisis whilst simultaneously posing a threat to its democratic stability. 4B feminists reject this instrumentalization of women’s reproductive capacities and choose to distance themselves from a society they perceive as irredeemable.
While 4B advocates aspire to instigate societal change through in-person demonstrations, online activism, and by exemplifying an alternative lifestyle for other women, their focus is not on changing the perspective of men, as they are seen as oppressors.
The movement is spreading to other places because they face the SAME issues!
All of that is fine, I'm sure there are policies that women and men resent, but the question is ''who is going to have the children for the future''? If everyone stops having kids, you'll have to import people from other cultures to do it for you and we can see from Europe's example how awful that is.

There's a whole lot of cope in this comment section. You can't deny reality. Birthrates are down worldwide because women are rejecting the patriarchy. If the men in the comments want this to change this trajectory, they need to evolve and be better people.

Hey everyone, the 4B movement is very uncommon in South Korea. You can check out Anna Lee's video talking about this in depth. As usual, American feminists have gotten it completely wrong and are telling people about a country they don't know well and have never lived in.
We all know that the majority SK women doesn't do 4B.

Too many wrong things in this video. My mother, born in 1938, had her own bank account before she got married. MARRIED women couldn't have separate bank accounts and NEITHER COULD HUSBANDS! It's BECAUSE THEY WERE MARRIED! Married couples were CONSIDERED A UNIT! There was no ''his money, her money'' in marriage.
