    The ASVAB is a 9 subject multiple choice test but 3 subjects calculate the “GT” score,. If you’re just enlisting get the book and study all subjects but if you’re already in the military and need a higher GT score study 3 portions of the ASVAB. Word knowledge (vocabulary), Arithmetic reasoning (word problems) and Paragraph comprehension. It’s also a good idea to see if the Education center offers a GT score improvement class that mostly focus on the Arithmetic Reasoning. They will also give you pages and pages of vocabulary words, and you will see all 30 vocabulary words on the test. For paragraph comprehension, just go back into that paragraph and find that multiple choice answer in the story….it’s in there, do it fast, you have about 75 seconds per paragraph . You will retake the entire 9 subject ASVAB. The GT class helped me raise my GT score to 127….Good luck!

    30 seconds into the video and you gave a great example of what NOT to do.. brain fart! Definitely common for any test, especially one that can decide your future and even more so for people who suck at taking tests (like myself). Prepare and have confidence. Stop and focus on your breathing if you need to, but again, stay confident and don't second guess yourself.

    This was my obstacle. Before I can even go to a unit for try outs I needed to raise my GT score. Did a course and retook the test and now I'm at 126 and raised everything else. Now it's time to train and prepare for try outs.

    In 1981, as a senior in high school, the entire senior class was marched into the multi purpose room. They had all the recruiters there and we had to take the ASVAB. There was no difference between branches of service. I liked the USMC uniform and boom, joined right then.

    It definitely does fluctuate from time to time. Sometimes it's a 107 GT, 105 GT with a waiver or 110 GT. Yes, Buck is 100% correct though. Just aim for 110 because they can switch the score minimum to 110 at any point making you have to retest anyways. It's better to get it out of the way while you have time as opposed to a year down the line in training. Also, they sell ASVAB flashcards online which help a lot as well. 👍

    Buck is absolutely correct about not letting the military have full say on where to go while in the recruiting process. If there is a job that you know in your heart of hearts that you want to do, whether it be a Green Beret, a Truck Driver, an Engineer, (Navy Seabee in my case) then do whatever it takes to get the scores needed to qualify. Once you are, make damn sure you get that job secured in your contract. If it's not written down, and signed, chances are it won't happen. Once that's finalized, if you enter the Delayed Entry Program, continue to train, train, train until you finally ship out for basic. And I don't just mean physical training either. Soak up whatever inside knowledge you can from people who have been there, and done it themselves. Not only will this set you up for success, but put you in a position to help others do the same.

    I went into a recruiters office and asked for either a 40x Ranger contract or a contract to be 74D and he was like “yeah yeah yeah but do u have a drivers license” cause there many more jobs if you have a drivers license and other jobs he tried to sell me on and I was like no I only consider those to jobs. Too bad there aren’t any Ranger or 74D contracts available. I went and exercised with the group of potential recruits that day it was pretty good mostly long 2 mile jog what it was though and other exercises. But I’ll rather wait a whole year to enlist to apply for a job I really want vs a job that I don’t want that is available right away.

    I can't stress this enough, a lot of the ASVAB is mechanical and automotive. The practice tests aren't accurate, my son scored very well on the practice tests. He only got 105 on the GT score. He was sorely lacking on mechanical and automotive. They don't teach shop and automotive in school anymore. Take the test see your weakness and study those areas you are weak in. He retook it again and scored 114. I took it one time and scored 127.

    • @daywalker8531
      @daywalker8531 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AFGixxeR88 I took a practice test at my recruiter's office. The practice test is only four sections( 2 math and 2 English) that is timed about 8 minutes per section with about 14 problems each. After the test, it will give you a score. I then recommend working on whatever sections you had a difficult time with at home or when you have free time at work. I believe you can take that practice test as many times as you want as well but don't quote me on that. Also, if you don't want to feel pressured about the time you have to take the ASVAB (3 hours or so), request to take the PICAT. You have way more time and you can take it at your recruiter's office. You will have to take a verication test when you go into MEPS but it will be only 40 questions and most of the questions are the same exact question that you had on the PICAT, there will be a couple that are not but most will be. But, there is a chance when you go into MEPS to take the verification test, that you will have to take the WHOLE ASVAB test. It is random and the computer decides but still a chance. You will also have to take a personality test of about 175 questions that is timed but is dependent on how preceive yourself and no worng anwser unless you are untruthful to yourself.

I took two practice tests then took the PICAT and after the PICAT is when I got the offical GT score. But you will have to pass your verification test in order to keep your GT score and if you fail, you will have to take the ASVAB. That will let you know what needs to be worked on (to study more) or not before the PICAT. Even though you may feel like you want to get in as fast as possible, it is best to be able to get the score you want that pertains to the job you want. Ask your recruiter for a list of jobs that their branch offers and ask what GT score is needed for the one you want. That will give you a solid goal to achieve.

    Here’s a Free chicken from a soon to be (hopefully after medical) SF enlistee
    Ask your recruiter to take what’s called the PICAT. It’s an at home ASVAB after you take it, call or text your recruiter for your score. If you are at or above a 110… you go to your nearest MEPS station and take a certification test. (It’s shorter than the PICAT)
    Now if you get below a 110 GT score you get to take extra time to study, without getting fucked out of SF. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CERTIFY YOUR PICAT EXAM. IF YOU DONT GET 110GT ON YOUR PICAT STUDY YOUR ASS OF AND ASK YOUR RECRUITER TO TAKE THE FULL ASVAB.

    My first and only time taking the ASVAB my composite scores for the Army specifically, was 107+ across the board. My GT score was 113 which was my highest score. Idk what the average is for any of the scores but I definitely felt good about my performance on the test. Which expires this September so aiming to sign 18x this summer (working on fitness). My question (if you read this), can I have my recruiter put in my contract if I don’t get selected I would be reassigned to Infantry. I just don’t want to be reassigned Combat Photographer or culinary specialist because of the “Needs of the army” 🤣🤣

    • @jessclark985
      @jessclark985 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if you go 18X you will sign a contract as an 11B, 11C, or 11X (Army chooses which one of the 11 series mentioned you go). If you fail the APFT in OSUT to maintain your 18X contract you will most likely go to a line unit as an 11B or 11C. If you fail the APFT at AT/PC/SFAS (SFAS depends what week) you will get a 6 month or a 2 year to return. 6 month they will keep you at SWC. If you fail you just go to a line unit (82nd/173rd/etc.) You won’t become a cook or needs of the army in the sense that your MOS will change.
