@@joelapuente it went great, I got dropped after land nav for accidentally going out of bounds I think. I go back October of this year, very fun course and challenging.

Long story short; you made me realize what it takes to use your shortfalls to self motivate. I read your book after the Sean Ryan episode; dude, thank you! Not for your service; that’s obligatory for me to be thankful for; but thank you for saving my time. I’d have wasted soooo much sans the guidance. My dad was SF in the SADF part of the 101bn working with 32 mech. Your advice and the impact on my output daily that it had put a smile on that man’s face in a way I’ve yet to ever feel.
Come to think of it with your advice at the end there; it’s almost impossible to waste your time ever.
The straw for the 2 Quart Canteen is a great idea. Wish I had one thirty years ago. The Panama Sole Jungle Boots with the Green tops Rock. Still have 2 pairs of them. Getting teary eyed thinking about them
Great information man! One of the captains on my first hotshot crew would set an alarm on his watch for every 15 minutes so that he would remember to take a sip of water while out on fires. Our overhead always tells us that hydration starts the night before your body can only absorb one cup of water every fifteen minutes.
I just failed rasp cause I came in with rhabdo from AIT. I wasn’t drinking enough water and pushed through all the way to cole range and it finally caught up and took me out the game. I now know this for once I get healthy again and apply for selection. Hurts to learn this lesson how I did but now I know.

lol I love it MRE's? Try C-Rats lol At least with C-rats you could use them as a weapon. Always had a bottle of tabasco we would hold them over the APC/tank heater output and heat them up. John Wayne candy
bars: disc shaped about 1/4" thick that could injure or kill on impact. A few grains of salt in a canteen of water is what we got. For some reason my canteen had a whisky-like taste since the 2nd day of issue.
Jungle boots were great, but nothing was broken in as my OSUT boots. They were like Chucks by the time I was done.
I always judge my hydration on the color of my urine.

Best advice I got for cruits: ATTITUDE. Go in with the attitude of its a challange. Are ya afraid of baseball? Training is hard but if you LIKE it - its aint hard at all. WE had to run 2 miles in under 13 minutes (hated it). Heartbreak and Agony they take the smallest slowest weakest guy up front to lead the march and you carry them if need to OR start all over lol

What’s the definition of a planned route in land nav?
picking the best route and sticking to it, you will know when routes are bad... i.e. draws, water crossings etc.

i have a question,do you need math for special forces ?
Not SF here, but you will more or less depending on your MOS. As an 18C, you would be using a ton of math. I’d venture to guess not as much as an 18B.

ok now I get it lol The reason 'we' could not enlist for SF is there wernt none - we was it. I started on 'reaction team' that morphed into 'reaction force' that became the first Delta team etc. When I trained they told us we are the 'jack of all trades' and had training on just about everything there was. That was W Germany. We slept in uniform with boots on waiting for "the balloon to go up". We trained with WP grenades silent kill weapons, apc, tank, recon, booby trapping, and how to spot a spy for the bad guys. Drown proofing was the only water training except with armor ya gotta let it sink to the bottom before ya can escape out lol.

Let's use Marines as an example. Is it advantageous to strive for SF selection so that you are not simply relegated to Building clearing Door Kicking Cannon fodder and/or IED bait ? Are lesser trained up servicemen or servicewomen likely 'used up' more easily when odds are a bit shifted vs being saved for more small unit direct action operations if there is alot of dollars invested into your training ?
If you fear being a door kicker and are scared of IEDS don’t pick a combat job period there’s no shame in that
