Alot of people are using the word "slow" to describe Andor, funny, I didn´t find it slow at all, because it was so well told/ written. All the scenes made sense, and helped build up this pocket of the Star Wars universe perfectly. And there was this constant tension in most scenes, not slow at all, but riveting all the way.

I think the pacing is perfect. It's a slow burner that's eventually going to explode.

    • @EzriIkramS

It “feels” slow because it’s as real as you can feel in a space opera science fiction setting. It breathes and it sure smells grimier and dirtier. It’s not about princes and princesses and lords and ambassadors. It’s about people feeling desperate and angry. The pacing and the way the series asks the viewers to take in the environment, atmosphere and the inhabitants of this series is just perfect.

I feel like this is an example of the other Disney shows (Marvel and Star Wars) and a few others just entirely distorting what people expect by pacing. Because this isn't REMOTELY slow. It just isn't rushing. It's taking it's time and letting things happen.

What I love about this show is that it doesn’t automatically assume that the audience is stupid, like so many other shows do. Nothing is being spoon fed, you actually have to pay attention to what is going on and listen to what the characters are saying. So far this show has demanded that the audience be patient and a lot of modern audiences can’t or won’t do that.

This is the flavor of Star Wars we needed. It kinda tells one of the messages from Last Jedi better than the movie: revolution doesn’t need a magic kid; a normal person can play a pivotal role, but it won’t be an easy or pleasant journey. This is slice of life, textured, deliberate….a mature way of telling a Star Wars story. Love it
We shouldn’t forget that before Luke destroyed Death Star I and turned Vader, the resistance that became the Rebellion and fought the Empire were regular folks, not force users. They had to kill, steal, and cheat their way to do it, but the did what they had to do to survive and rise up
I suspect the people complaining about the show are a little too accustomed to Michael Bay-seque “storytelling”. Even Kenobi and BOBF suffered from clunky pacing and hamfisted “moments”. Andor seems to be building tension and fleshing out characters in a more deliberate pace, like Breaking Bad, or The Wire, where payoffs feel more earned

_Andor_ & _Rogue One_ = the rise of the Rebel Alliance from the POV of everyday non-Force sensitive citizens working to undermine the Empire and reclaim their freedom through real strategy and grit
_Rebels_ = the rise of the Rebel Alliance from the POV of a Jedi apprentice working to undermine the Empire by looking for a way to destroy the Sith and save his family
The OT = both narratives converging into one whole, culminating in ROTJ when both sides finally secure a victory together
The entire concept of this is brilliant and it adds even more scope and significance to the story that already existed

We're obviously getting Cassian's but we're also getting Syril's (Premo Corp Maguire) and how he may become more radicalized towards the empire. I love the scaffolding and the lifter droids.
Some droids are yellow and red matching the transportation carts.
Fiona Shaw also played aunt petunia evans Dursley from Harry Potter .
The shape of opening hatch matches the symbol on the patches of the dead crew.
Lupin is more worried about who can steal the unit for him rather than the unit itself and where it was stored.
Cassian is less afraid of the empire than the local cops.
Lupin hints that he did his homework how else would he know where cassians Foster father was hung.
Cassian applied both the rules he learned from lupus in rogue one.
Removing the sign so invading forces can not navigate is guerrilla warfare.

Deputy Inspector Syril Karn was told early on that Preox-Morlana didn't have much of a presence on Ferrix (so the Pre-Mor security team would be on their own if things went South), and that the locals had their own way of doing things (so they'd be uncooperative at best, or hostile at worst). So of course Karn failed to pick up on those red flags and went ahead with his pursuit of justice. 😬 He is so green in the field, and I really appreciate that such a mundane character trait is what realistically lead to disaster.
I also liked how the escalation isn't one-sided. Luthen aggravated the situation by bringing bombs. Pre-Mor killed Timm and left his corpse in the open, then Brasso snagged a Tac-Pod and blew it up. All these separate actions fed into a mess that quickly grew out of control. It was such a convincing sequence showing how everything just devolved into a massive shitshow.
Love this show. Can't wait for next week.

A faux-theory of mine is that Cas's parents and the parents of the other children were air quality control specialists who died related to mining, given there was a spill I'm sure the air went bad and they were the first to die as that is the role of a Kenari in the mine.
More seriously, I don't think the people were on the ship were space simpsons. I think they were exposed to a yellow gas Episode 2 at 00:17:53 there is a shot of the ship the kids are coming up on and there is yellow smoke. If the yellow substance is mined on their world it may also have been used as a dye given the color of the Kenari kids clothing.

I think the fact that they decided to use bare-faced "cops" instead of helmeted Stormtroopers says everything this series wants to tell. This story is about what a social crisis means and how people are involved in it and suffer from it; both citizens and imperial agents. But I suspect that it will be about how resentment as a result of suffering is capable of transforming people and bringing out the worst in us.
Just after seeing 3 chapters I dare to say that this series is the best level so far, it is more adult and much better in terms of cinematography and narrative.

23:11 Cassian's gun reminds me a lot of Kyle Katarn's pistol from Jedi Outcast

The acting in this from everyone so far is really solid. When the Deputy Inspector is looking at the destruction you can just see all inner turmoil.

I loved it! I see the vibe of make a few men feel like a hundred in play here. Also Syril Karn will have that Javert character chasing Andor swearing by the stars that he will never rest till justice is served.

Yep. This is the heart of a rebellion, people, just real people who just who have had enough. No shining (Jedi) knights, just people getting up off the ground.

I am calling it now that that imperial box is going to be called back at some point. Either it will be found by the empire when they come to the planet or he goes back and gets it later in the season

Andor is proof that stories should come first before your franchise.
This approach is how you fix Star Wars and make it something worth getting invested in. Everything with Syril is perfect.

We need more of this type of Star Wars show! They don’t even need to be tied to the main storyline.

I got a little sad when Jay said, "even their ship is boring", because the design reminds me of the LAAT gunships from the clone wars, and I LOVE that design. These kind of look like a tiny version of those combined with an imperial shuttle.

LAAT goes corporate -- loses the cool paint job, tosses the bubble gunner seats, and sadly is put on a slab to be painted matte gray

They take their sweet time doing the thing, so I guess some would call this slow. I would call it gripping, intriguing and suspensful!
I like how they show us Cassians friends in a montage in the later moments in this episode. You just know that a rebel cell has just been born right here!

What I like as well is the feel, the colour pallet and the grittiness compliments Rogue One as a story about the birth of the Rebellion.

  • @ashtonturner2862

Ever since Rogue One, I was like this is how Star Wars should be moving forward - more practical sets and real locations, more grounded and darker in tone, and no Jedi. We finally have that with Andor and I hope we see this same formula more because it’s better for Star Wars.

    • @TheLoreSeeker
      @TheLoreSeeker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

To be fair... it can't ALWAYS be the formula... or you never get settings like Cato Nemoidia or Felucia or Coruscant....because you simply can't do some of those alien settings without CGI landscaping.

Interesting hearing you guys say people are divided on this show Star Wars fans are VERY picky, but at least content creators on youtube i follow LOVE this show and so do i. Mando is a great show and a fan service to all Star Wars fans but while it has a story feels like a different adventures every episode and im ok with that too, Andor is political, has espionage, drama, great characters, great dialogue, grim setting and its showing why this IP doesnt need to be carried by force users and lightsabers.

My wife will fall asleep during many things but she has loved this so far. Great story telling transcends the media. Like it or not, a lot of the post original trilogy stuff hasn't great story telling. The world building and imagination did so much heavy lifting that it continued to captivate people. This is telling an interesting character story that happens to be in the Star Wars universe. Kudos for the bravery to be 3 episodes in and we've not seen a storm trooper, a lightsaber, no mention of the rebellion yet. Hell we've not even seen the imperial crest. Most shows would have had a cutaway to something at the very least. Even Mandalorian couldn't keep the Empire out of things for 3 episodes.

God I love this show so far. Feels lived in, the characters feel real, the moments and scenes are given time and weight to breathe. It, so far, is probably showing how the police and authorities act as arms of fascism. And so many other little touches. The show taking a moment to show Andor clocking the aliens fleeing the shop and imply that's how he figures out where the Inspector is? Hell yeah.

This is Star Wars for mature audiences and I love it. I love movies and series that put your brain to work, and this show just like the Bourne Saga, does it very well. "Show, don't tell".
