Such a great technique taken out from competition, no need to force a high single leg.

Sensei, from Australia, thank for sharing your knowledge, skill and wisdom! The information regarding the key essences of each waza is priceless. I like techniques like this as they are suitable for smaller people against larger opponents especially is self defense. At our jujutsu school we still practice the majority of the kodokan nage waza with various entries although variations. After all, judo is a life long endeavor! One of the entries I like for this technique is to create the kuzushi by attacking the hip with a firm push while simultaneously drawing the leg. As I am outside of say the right leg, left hand attacks/pushes diagonally down on the top of the hip to make uki sit past their heels. Thank you again.

I really like this techniques along with Kibisu Daoshi and Morote Gari. These 3 are my fave until now. I still use this in randori sessions. Works over time, and I do sometime add some push to the knee with my head and block the feet with Ko soto gake so the uke will fall since he will lose balance.
I did research my techniques over time when it was in 2002-2006.

We have a slight variation at our Jujutsu school where we use the heel of our palm to strike the solar plexus while grabbing the heel.

Domo arigatou for featuring this waza. Kibisu-gaeshi is one of those ingenious and sly throws that are eminently practical and perfect for those who do not possess a great deal of physical strength. Sadly it is nearly forgotten because of the IJF prohibition against techniques involving leg grabs. Riki-sensei took the words right out of my mouth: it IS a foolish rule.
Eternally grateful to all of you for keeping the authentic Kodokan Judo alive. 🥋🙏
