The Mate 9 is designed to be Huawei’s big push into the premium mobile market dominated by Samsung and Apple. The company has said it wants to become the world’s largest smartphone maker within five years. But it’s going to be tough getting there.
Huawei is looking to grow globally as it faces increasing headwinds in its domestic market. Earlier this year, it stole first place in China’s hyper-competitive smartphone market from Xiaomi.

Thanks for a great video. Been wanting to see the improvement from Leica 2.0. Definitely HW Mate 9 will be on my list. Well I guess both are great, one for IOS and the other for Android. It would be better if you could compare "apple for apple", pun intended, against Google Pixel.
First off, the new update vastly improves the way notifications are handled on the phone. Rather than displaying a simple number ticker showing you how many notifications you have in the status bar, the Mate 9 now displays proper notification icons so you can see exactly what notifications you've received throughout the day. You do have the ability to revert back to the number ticker if your heart so desires, and Huawei has also fixed a bug with Gmail notifications being unreadable on the handset.
In addition to the notification setup being fixed, Huawei has also improved the camera experience with the Mate 9. A 6x hybrid zoom mode has been added to the camera app, and the interface for zooming now features the ability to quickly hop to a 2x zoom for easier and faster zooming of your subjects. Overall image quality has also been improved too, with areas of low-light performance, color accuracy, and rendering of details all seeing noticeable upgrades. Round all of this out with the Mate 9's official bump up to the Android security patch that landed on November 1, and you're looking at an incredibly full-featured update for the phone.

I am for #Huawei , and you forgot that the huawei is around 200€ cheaper
I notice when the frame starts to get very busy, with a lot of movement, the Mate 9 tends to hunt around a bit more, there is a little bit more artifacting then on the iPhone and the artificial sharpening becomes more evident. I never noticed this until you do a direct comparison with the iPhone.
Also is that giveaway ever going to happen?

I've just changed from the note 3 to the mate 9. Definitely the best phone I've had. And I was contemplating going back to iPhone 😂😂😂 what a joke. I went to the apple store and messed around with the 7plus.... Not much has changed since I had the 4 in 2012... Of course the camera has improved but thats about it.

The iPhone takes the crown in this comparaison. I can't agree about the front facing camera. Although the angle is narrower it's the only one showing a natural aspect as all Android models made you guys look like Barbie dolls with the beautification mode on probably. The bokeh effect on the Mate 9 is simply gorgeous so I guess it takes the rear camera point but loses in video where the iPhone stayed in focus where as the Mate 9 kept shifting exposure giving an unpleaseant result of dark to bright...

funny l am a keen amateurs photographer and my gf is a pro photographer who has a iPhone 7 plus,l have a p9 and we agree the p9 renders more detail sometimes the iPhone shoots look a bit soft when zoomed in.ive had every lumia phone(950 last) but my lg g4 beats them all.the p9 has the nicest colour balance and features thou and is my favourite.
Austin Caley what do you think about the lumia 1020? it had 41 mp and that's a mp-monster for a smartphone :)
Phuong Nguyen yea it's good but v slow way too slow to take photo and lock focus,doesnt handle sunlight so well,dynamic range just OK.p9 realistic skin tones and way better colours.

From my point of view, the mate 9 camera may beat the iPhone 7 in some respect, but ist struggles against the Google Pixel (XL), except for audio quality in video and has even problems keeping up with the older Samsung S7. I think it´s important to say. And even front camera can´t keep up with the Pixel as even german volggers showed. I am a bit disappointed in relation to the cameras.

You're not being fair here, The iPhone was obviously better in some shots especially the front camera and you said the mate 9 was better. And you didn't even enable the bokeh effect on the iPhone while it was enabled on the mate 9

The video stabilization is not the top, but as usual Huawei released an update after the release, as they have done for P9. Also be aware that there is also a front video stabilization that works great! Anyway there on my video stabilization works very well P9 😉

There should be a warning at the start of the video saying "Sponsored by Huawei". There is no way anybody would say the still pictures on iPhone7 are worse than the Mate 9. Clearly, the exposure on the Mate 9 is one f point less than what it should be. The pictures are just "dark" and bland.
By dark and bland you mean correctly exposed with a wider dynamic range, better contrast and truer colours unlike the overexposed pics of the iPhone. Brighter doesn't mean better, the Mate 9 clearly takes better photos at least learn a thing or two about photography before talking about photo quality.
If what you are saying is true (and I am not saying that it isn't), than you have other hands-on experience with this device. The pictures in this review tell a different story. In general what you are saying is true for Samsung devices. They are well over exposed colors are blown. However I find the iPhone pictures generally pleasing and not too heavily modified. Speaking of which, truer to the real doesn't mean "good" or "preferable". If that would be the case, there would be no need for something called "Photoshop". Our eyes prefer a certain amount of post processing and these Mate 9 pictures suggest that Huawei is not doing it enough. BTW, I know about photography, I take shots for motorcycle magazines.
İlker Eryılmaz Some pics here taken with the iPhone were clearly overblown, by overblown I meant exposure not colour saturation, and what you're talking about in the latter part applies to users who only post to Instagram maybe, but from a photography standpoint more accurate colours is always better, if one wanted to alter colours one could do that in post processing, however it's harder to post process something to my taste when it's already been heavily processed, when colours are already off and have been decided for me.

Benchmarks are just numbers, even the 400 dollar Honor 8 with a Kirin 950 outperformed the iPhone 7 Plus in app opening and browsing, the Mate 9 is the fastest phone on the planet period.

unfair test, it will be more fair if u are testing with the iPhone 7 plus model, not the standard model . And yes the plus model has dual lens set up. The reason why iPhone doesn't have better camera on some of their product because of its thinness , if apple were to add a better camera it would result of a camera hump on the front because of the iPhone 7 symmetrical design.
999CATZ the huawei p9 has a dual camera too, there is no hump like there is on the back of the iphones and the battery is nearly double the size. Also why was it unfair? The mate 9 is cheaper than the standard ip7. Devices of the same price range should be compared.
u are simply comparing a dual lens with a single lens when u can compare with the plus model which has a dual lens camera.
999CATZ first you need to understand what the dual Lense is doing on the iPhone.... we had not a closer look at portrait mode here just image quality of the main shooter so this comparison is fair.
i believe you should how do we know if the phone is using both cameras at the same time to generate that image or just the main lens .
