Congratulations on defeating Konami's most infamously difficult shmup, Lightning Fighters! Did you also happen to notice that the building in the very beginning of the game is shaped just like Konami's logo? Also, the highest bonus 5730, the first 3 digits of that number happens to be Japanese loosely interpreted as "Konami".
The games add to youtube are spectacular and bring me many memories, when the arcade games were in vogue and I spent all my coins to make me an expert in them, but always appeared more rapids of which Venice... memories!
Came here after watching Toys. Saw this game being played in the movie. Looks pretty fun. Is it just available on Mame? Or is it available on consoles too?
Agreed. Wish Konami would release another Classics Collection with this game and a few other ones on it (Crime Fighters, Tutankahman, etc.) The release for the PS1 was not enough. Capcom Classics Vol 1 & 2 & Taito Arcade Vol 1 & 2 for PS2 and Tecmo Classics arcade for Xbox was nice. But even on those a few games didn't make it like U.N. Squadron, Arkanoid, Sky Shark, Double Dragon, and Silk Worm. If released my fave on the Konami collection besides Lightning Fighters would be Top Gunner. Thx
It is correct, it is the game of which I spoke, slap fighter, thanks for finding it! brings me many memories, you know that he used all weapons and all the power of fire and left the more high scores in machines that you jugaba... thanks for everything
A neat thing that game designers continue to use is making you face & defeat (again) end of level bosses from earlier in the game. Usually you're so worn down by then, that they give you a little power up and then they let you face the final (tough as nails) boss. My first taste of this was in Mega Man for the NES and later in the superb MegaMan X4 for the Sega Saturn. In this video it starts at 21:34. Old school games rock!
Thanks to mame savestate, many later stages we can practice again & again to perfect our skills while it is impossible to be done in real arcade machine ^^
There was an arcade game that was spacecraft in the mid-1990s, but sadly I do not remember the title, I only remember a part "Fighters" could someone help me? Once appeared a option you could add segments to the sides of your ship and to increase the destructive power of the same... came to be almost as wide as the game screen.
@MamePlayer ...Thank you for answering, but it is definitely not Raiden, game Arcade reinforcements were placed to the sides of the spacecraft and the they made so wide that almost played the sides of the screen, similar to Truxton but they were 3 reinforcements rather than 1 and the game was in the mid 80's, I know it's something difficult help me.
Might be Slap Fight you are thinking of too. You could add sets of wings up to 3 on either side. You better pray you were using guided missiles with that many wings, otherwise you would be losing them pretty quickly. :(
There was a game pretty similat to this one but with better graphics. I remember that the laser upgrade was petty awesome as it went from one little beam to two, three and then a huge one...
Unfortunately unless we ever see a Toaplan collection, no Sky Shark. :( And Toaplan's rights are all over the place these days. As for Arkanoid, maybe it's something to do with Atari and Breakout I assume.
Like the ending soundract of gradius indeed

Another Konami great game!
Dragon lasers are sooooooo freaking cool. Even better than any homing missile on the planet!

@cayopolus
Was it Slap Fight? It had power ups that bolted on to the side, such as laser, bomb, homing missile.

What does the last boss of Lightning Fighters do if you take too long?

It was released in the U.S. as Alcon.

One of the Konami shmups no one ever seems to talk about, shame this never got a home port and stayed a PCB exclusive.
Wow, you're comment is almost 10 years old. Anyhow, if you're still alive, it's coming out for the ps4 and the switch.
The objective when you play lightning fighters/Trigon reach 1000000 points
Que recuerdos Man ...
Eres bueno...
i miss this game & can u message me the link to download so i can play & beat this on my own?
+1 amazing Video. * Great Game.
does anyone else remember the dragon laser making a roar and not that chicken sound?
Actually that Roar or what you call a "chicken sound" was Rodan of the godzillia movie franchise
Another good play.
i hope konami release this on the ps4 under there Arcade archives series they but some good stuff on there so far fingers crossed
James Tillett wish granted
Now, it’s coming to Switch

soundtrack of this game reminds me of Gradius's in some way
I3e Wa12n It is a Konami game, after all.
oh, Particle Beam! sounds to me like Haricot Beans.
In Trigon, it was called "Lightning Sword".

Good news: Toaplan has re-released a couple of its games for the Nintendo Switch: Fire Shark, Hellfire, Truxton & Zero Wing.
In Japan yes it is.
ripped off the airwolf theme nicely lol
This game was fun but it should have had an epilepsy warning.
Top
26:50 oh hai dragon
I think it's slap fighter :D
Seems pretty run of the mill cookie-cutter as far as shmups go
