The character creator in Rise of the Ronin is also pretty good. Not only do they have a number of different bangs options for different hair styles but the game also lets you edit the character at their house.
the most dangerous part of a character creator is the ability to save presets for later. I've spent upwards of 6 hours in a character creator making *multiple* different characters only to indecisively toggle between them when I'm done trying to decide which one I actually want to use in game
So true. I love that eldin ring has a preset you can switch at anytime. Love character creations with so much options and the ability to not be stuck with one. So you don't get burned out as quickly when you can just change things out. It's one of the things I love about Warframe and the many available options. Although I would love even more loadout slots for fashion versus having to keep creating more copies.

So it's usually not an issue. Just some TLC I wouldn't mind having. Once you made your third or fourth copy. And bought the extra three slots. Just slightly annoying to have to shuffle the quick load out cuz you can only have as many. Based on your mastery current Warframe count.
There are some games, that truthfully, I only play for the character creators. I like how they can help me visualize a character that I'm writing, or even help me spawn a new character that I can write about. The best character creators are not restrictive, and will allow for limitless creations, especially MIDGAME. Because I don't want to start a game all the way over, just because the character creator is the best part of the game. Shoutout to games that allow you to swap outfits, hairstyles and even characters midgame, not enough of that, but when I do see it, regardless of the gameplay, that game is a must have!
It is a little unfortunate that my two favorite character creators are tied a Souls like and a fighting game. Don't get me wrong, they're fun. I don't mind those genres overall, but like... dude, if Skyrim had Soul Calibur's creator, or Code Vein leaned into a more RPG direction, that would be my Nirvana. Do want to give Baldur's Gate a try though. The creator seems solid enough, and it's... basically DnD. Not a huge fan of RNG driving everything, but it gets a pass because DnD lol.
I always loved character creators in games and used to borrow my mates WWE games in the early 2000s just to make character. When I seen code vein and tried the demo I mostly just used the creator and had so much fun that when I seen it for $15 I bought it even though I never was a souls like fan, thinking the creator is worth the price even if I don't like the game. But I also loved the game and the creator was the best I seen, so much freedom and yet easy to use(some modern WWE games got way to technical in the creator that it became tedious).
My friend used to be so obsessed with character creators, he straight up wouldn’t play games that didn’t have them. He eventually grew out of this but he definitely still has a strong preference for them (even if he tries denying it)😂
when i was a kid my favorite part of gta san andreas was dressing CJ never understood why that would stood up so much for me compared to the driving or shooting but when i grow up and understand how much clothes could cost i understand why i liked this so much
I, too, am immensely fond of character creators. I've hit a point where I'll often judge whether to purchase a game based on how I like the creator. Sadly, the one feature I want always seems to be missing from them.
When I was younger I skipped over the character creator a lot. As I grew older I began taking my time with character creators. Recently I spent 2 hours just making my character for monster hunter wilds beta. I love the feeling you get turning over everything looking around from every angle and finally going "It's perfect" I really need to revisit baldurs gate 3 but that's such a time commitment.
I also love character creators in games! I'm a writer myself and I have a butt load of OCs that I like to make. My main OC game is Soul Calibur, and I even have an alternative universe kind of thing where I'll make specialized versions of them. Sometimes the limitations of the game inspires me as well. I have this one character I love to make and she's one of my most important and oldest characters. She's a martial arts expert but Soul Calibur stopped having a fist fighting style after SC3 so I had to compromise and gave her a bo staff. And now I've incorporated it into her character, and it in fact makes it easier for me to make her in other games now like Dynasty Warriors. And in defense of Pokemon, I've found that it can be useful in helping you come up with designs or outfits for more contemporary characters. Did that with Pokken DX on Switch and I'm relatively pleased. I've tried making them in open world games and RPGs but I like being able to have everything from the start. I guess my ideal character creator would be for a game that's more like a toy box that also happens to be an action RPG and survival crafting game or simulation game.
Night 2 has a really good character creator. Also, anyone who enjoys character creation more than the games they are attached to should check out fashion games like Style Savy. There's a lot of shovelware in the genre, but they can scratch that itch!
What's even great about the Character Creation gimmick in the games, is that if you wanna write a fanfiction about the game, you can take pictures of the characters you made in the creator once you've done getting it just right to use for reference as you describe their appearance while announcing their debut in the fanfiction.
Yeah I really like character creators too and actually try games out if they have a good one. One of my favorites you didnt mention is Dragon's Dogma 1. It released over 12 years ago but allowed you to adjust the height of your character a ton and there were actually benefits to being tall, short, light, or heavy. I dont know of any other games that allow you to do that and actually have it effect gameplay somewhat.
I can't wait to create my Character in Xenoblade Chronicles X and going to make him look savage as can be but in reality he's a big soft teddy bear till you make him made and I'm using the voice actor who voiced Hubert 😁.
Kind of a forgotten one is Skate 3. I don't know how well it would hold up to today, or exactly how wacky you could get with colors, but I enjoyed getting to make a team of skaters to both just mess around with, and throw flailing off buildings, trying to break each and every one of their bones for Hall of Meat points. And know you could make monstrosities with the proportions, kinda like in Souls games.

And, being a player and Game Master of various tabletop role-playing games, apps like Hero Forge make it easier for us to create all sorts of characters with ease. =D It was Hero Forge Pro where I created my renders of Ramona, your channel mascot. ;)
so far my biggest problem with character creators is that they don't let you really adjust the body in any way. You can make peter griffen's face as much as you like but not the body. The Sims 4 lets you actually adjust the body as your please, but the problem with that game is that there's nothing for your sim to do once you've made them and made their house ( almost like EA was trying to make players believe that the DLC's will give you something fun to do but holding that carrot on a stick oh so high enough you can't reach it). Granted I can already tell what most people are already going to do with say a female character *cough cough* turn up the bob slider all the way *cough cough* but there's still endless possibilities to a body editor

I hate only seeing them take a step forward once in a full moon but often taking two steps back frequently. And for real I get even more annoyed whenever I get just okay character creation an it's first person game!? Again a standard should be to allow both features. That way people can enjoy the immersion they like from first person but also be able to switch the third person. Having these together it's just a win-win. The most inconvenient part I get from my love of character creation is whenever I try starting a new game with my friends they of course not the same. And want to rush me. Most of my care of things at minimum need two hours worth of designing sometimes 8 depending on how great my options are. Then there's some games out there that the options start off pretty great but have God to your levels much later on but you have to collect them. To which I never get to the point of truly creating my dreamcatcher for that game because I don't know all the tools and my disposal just yet. Like phantasy Star online that's quite a good selection but I'm so restricted and trying to gather all the stuff. And have the storage necessary so I can experiment. Of course spending boatloads of money would help. Someone able to truly enjoy those games. It would be nice to have all the stuff available and be able to create my character and experiment with stuff I don't own and then save it and then hunt down those objects. In Pokemon so much frustration. Perfect example of what I said about taking a step forward and taking two steps back often. Check forever for us to get any form of character creation. Just for the latest version to strip away most of it. Scarlet and violet. Instead of building on it. Let's just keep taking away features we love.

for me it depends whether or not i want a character creator. either it needs to be really good or in a game with roleplaying but sometimes i'd like a character who talks and acts as a character would rather than acting as vessel for the player. and having the player character be a static design can make them more iconic, see Geralt in the Witcher or Gordon Freeman in half life.
As a fellow character customization enjoyer (or any customization in games, be it weapons, vehicles, buildings, etc.) it's so sad to know there's basically no perfect character creator. Even the best ones have their drawbacks, like overly detailed sliders for every muscle in your face, overly limited sliders, limited color options, simply horribly inconvenient UI, limited positions for makeup, tattoos, scars etc. That's why games like code vein going so far with it's character creator is so satisfying yet so grueling knowing just how much is possible, but almost no games even attempt to achieve that peak character creation. And then there's games like terraria where you wouldn't think you could do much if any customization yet ends up being one of my favorite games to customize characters in, as it's in a sense directly related to the progression in the game.
I'm a preset enjoyer because I can't be bothered but I'm always glad to see a great character creator because it's fun to see what people come up with. Mostly lurid fluorescent monsters that look bizarre, but hey.
funny thing is there's entire sliders voice actor options and probably other content i'm forgetting about missing in the us version of xenoblade x and that's whats being ported back to japan and america in the switch release also most of the portrayals were completely wrong in english compared to japanese also when it comes to character creators koikatsu stands in a league of it's own also cheese
Sometimes there are games with character creations that doesn't have a twintails for hair for the girls like Hogwarts Legacy for example. Why? I just want to give my female characters that hairstyle. At least I have so many clothing options, unlike Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, unless I bought the Expansion Pass, I'm stuck with a pitiful number of outfits to choose from. So is really depends on which games that has character creation that are either robust or just basics. Code Vein is the only few games that I felt that let you go wild with your characters.
I spent 3 hours in the MW Wilds Beta Character Creator so I don't have to spend them when I buy the game, more games should do stuff like this, maybe not a Beta but a Demo where you just create your character but if wanna see it in action you gotta buy the game

Its a bit sad, that the games with the best creator i found, was in Koikatsu and Honey select. 2 ero games. The option you have there spoiled me in, what i want in a creator (some games gives more option for face, but this 2 gives the mostz option in overall). What i would found interessting, would be a option, where you can truly create your own hair stils for the charas. Some games allows you to pick differently parts of hair together (like front, side and back). But they doesnt fit allways together. Some tools from the edge could be nice to try (i think one app had that). I only dont know, if hair are so complex, that this wouldnt be possible.

Yeah I love them. I always go with meme/abominations characters for games I know I will not take too seriously. Try making cool characters for games I will take more seriously. And recreate a character of a series or something for a middle ground for when I wanna play a game and at the same time do not think that much on doing a cool character so that is how I made King from Onepunchman for my Elden Ring game. And the AMOUNT of characters we made in the wwe game from 2011 was insane from superheroes, cartoons, anime, monsters, aliens, original creations and game characters, funny weird ones it was insane.
One thing to note with the Sims 4.... Mods make that character maker go from kinda... "bleh". To one of THE best out there. Problem is.... You have to deal with mod sites like Sims Resource.... (Ublock Origin is yout friend there.) But, if you put in the time and effort searching for mods. And then making your characters.... Well, let's say a lot of OCs were born from that character maker. Skyrim is also VERY notable.... With mods again. Vanilla Skyrim is both horribly limiting, AND ugly. But with mods. You can open up the face options a LOT. Also, modded skin textures, and hairdos do a lot to make your character look great.... Only problem is. The skin textures that look really good have some NSFW elements.... But, as long as you don't grab NSFW clothing mods. It's fine. Also... I appreciate the shoutouts to SCVI, and Code Vein. A few of my OCs came to be because of SCVI. And Code Vein made a pretty anime version of one of them possible.
I have over 100 hours on Hogwarts legacy. 99% of my gameplay is just me hunting for cute outfits and accessories, and playing dress up. And i have a wardrobe of outfits prepared for special occasions :)
your oc is WAY easier to make than mine, mine is a chubby demon girl and I can only think of 1 game that lets me get away with chubby + red skin. We need more chub options in char creators.
This is one of the reasons why i love playing MH. I love the character creator..... but I hate how all the guy helmets really much block the face from view.... rendering it kinda moot. They need to make a game where you can switch between armor styles of the genders cuz the girls have the best helmet armors in my opinion and I want to see my character emot while getting smacked around by Rathian for the 30th time.

Whenever I come across a character creator, I will try to make the main protagonist of my novels. It never fits, because Shanae is immortal and the fewest games let you roleplay a realistic immortal. Unfortunately, Shanae's design is purposefully boring.

Guilty on the accusation of skipping the aethetic side of character creation, yeah, also from Europe, I just dont care what my character looks like, especially if there is armour involve. If you get an advantage by having long reach or something like that then I just go default with the arm sliders maxed out or something like that, and I do the stats part of creation but how the character looks is just unappealing.

The character creator in Code Vein was so good, it made me keep trying to actually _play_ Code Vein. To be clear, I am NOT good at Code Vein.

I used Code Vein as a tutorial for Souls like, try to switch up your builds if you feel stuck.

Yeah it’s nice XBCX had a customizer but they removed the bust slider outside of Japan! That better get restored in the DE!
Breast Slider and 4 voice options (2 for each gender). Plus some equipments got replaced by re-colors.

waking up in Friday morning to create my character in dragons dogma in 2016 to play all day for the 1st time will forever be core memory

That's why games like code vein going so far with it's character creator is so satisfying yet so grueling knowing just how much is possible, but almost no games even attempt to achieve that peak character creation.
And then there's games like terraria where you wouldn't think you could do much if any customization yet ends up being one of my favorite games to customize characters in, as it's in a sense directly related to the progression in the game.

funny thing is there's entire sliders voice actor options and probably other content i'm forgetting about missing in the us version of xenoblade x and that's whats being ported back to japan and america in the switch release

Sometimes there are games with character creations that doesn't have a twintails for hair for the girls like Hogwarts Legacy for example. Why? I just want to give my female characters that hairstyle. At least I have so many clothing options, unlike Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, unless I bought the Expansion Pass, I'm stuck with a pitiful number of outfits to choose from.
So is really depends on which games that has character creation that are either robust or just basics. Code Vein is the only few games that I felt that let you go wild with your characters.
I spent 3 hours in the MW Wilds Beta Character Creator so I don't have to spend them when I buy the game, more games should do stuff like this, maybe not a Beta but a Demo where you just create your character but if wanna see it in action you gotta buy the game
Still have the Ramona shirt from a few years back, hopefully in the future there's more merc of her. Also Code Vein, in this year, gotta get the boys together for some co-op anime fun

Its a bit sad, that the games with the best creator i found, was in Koikatsu and Honey select. 2 ero games.
The option you have there spoiled me in, what i want in a creator (some games gives more option for face, but this 2 gives the mostz option in overall).
What i would found interessting, would be a option, where you can truly create your own hair stils for the charas. Some games allows you to pick differently parts of hair together (like front, side and back). But they doesnt fit allways together. Some tools from the edge could be nice to try (i think one app had that).
I only dont know, if hair are so complex, that this wouldnt be possible.

I always go with meme/abominations characters for games I know I will not take too seriously.
Try making cool characters for games I will take more seriously.
And recreate a character of a series or something for a middle ground for when I wanna play a game and at the same time do not think that much on doing a cool character so that is how I made King from Onepunchman for my Elden Ring game.
And the AMOUNT of characters we made in the wwe game from 2011 was insane from superheroes, cartoons, anime, monsters, aliens, original creations and game characters, funny weird ones it was insane.
One thing to note with the Sims 4.... Mods make that character maker go from kinda... "bleh". To one of THE best out there.
Problem is.... You have to deal with mod sites like Sims Resource.... (Ublock Origin is yout friend there.)
But, if you put in the time and effort searching for mods. And then making your characters.... Well, let's say a lot of OCs were born from that character maker.
Skyrim is also VERY notable.... With mods again. Vanilla Skyrim is both horribly limiting, AND ugly. But with mods. You can open up the face options a LOT. Also, modded skin textures, and hairdos do a lot to make your character look great.... Only problem is. The skin textures that look really good have some NSFW elements.... But, as long as you don't grab NSFW clothing mods. It's fine.
Also... I appreciate the shoutouts to SCVI, and Code Vein. A few of my OCs came to be because of SCVI. And Code Vein made a pretty anime version of one of them possible.
I have over 100 hours on Hogwarts legacy. 99% of my gameplay is just me hunting for cute outfits and accessories, and playing dress up. And i have a wardrobe of outfits prepared for special occasions :)
There have been several games I've bought or decided not to buy just because of their character creator or lack of one.
your oc is WAY easier to make than mine, mine is a chubby demon girl and I can only think of 1 game that lets me get away with chubby + red skin.
We need more chub options in char creators.
The real problem is that non-standard body type is extremely harder to develop.
I never played through xenoblade x but i did do the startup process and i spent like 2 hours customizing my character

This is one of the reasons why i love playing MH. I love the character creator..... but I hate how all the guy helmets really much block the face from view.... rendering it kinda moot. They need to make a game where you can switch between armor styles of the genders cuz the girls have the best helmet armors in my opinion and I want to see my character emot while getting smacked around by Rathian for the 30th time.

Oddly, you can't make your character bald in Code Vein. As a bald man, this ruins my immersion. Still one of my favorite games.
How do you feel about bust sliders in character creators? Xenoblade Chronicles X had one in the Japanese version, but it was cut out for the US release. It's not something I really care about, but I dislike censorship. Just wondered what you think.
Whenever I come across a character creator, I will try to make the main protagonist of my novels.
It never fits, because Shanae is immortal and the fewest games let you roleplay a realistic immortal.
Unfortunately, Shanae's design is purposefully boring.

Guilty on the accusation of skipping the aethetic side of character creation, yeah, also from Europe, I just dont care what my character looks like, especially if there is armour involve. If you get an advantage by having long reach or something like that then I just go default with the arm sliders maxed out or something like that, and I do the stats part of creation but how the character looks is just unappealing.
