Over the course of American history, the racial classification of Indians has been complex and ever-evolving. In the early 20th century, a series of legal battles and court rulings attempted to determine the racial status of Indian immigrants. Despite being initially excluded from whiteness, Indians strategically argued their case by invoking theories of Aryan origin and Caucasian identity. The Supreme Court's ruling in United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind in 1923, however, rejected the notion of Indians as "white" based on a narrow interpretation of common understanding. This decision marked a pivotal moment in shaping the racial classification of Indians in America and had lasting consequences for the Indian American community.Who counts as "white" ?

My name is Danielle Romero, and all my life, I have romanticized Louisiana.
Growing up in New York, it represented a place where I could step back the sepia-toned life of my great grandmother, Lola Perot, who died before I was born.
Now, it was time to go back to Louisiana--although I had no idea what the truth would be or what questions to ask---who was Lola really? Who were we?

I just see people as human frankly. My daughter when she was expecting her daughter said to me that her donor's mother was Puerto Rican and did I have any prejudices about hispanics. How crazy is that? I'm Canadian. We don't know enough hispanics up here to have any prejudices toward them frankly or I think we don't. I've since discovered that my sister has some DNA associated with Spain. That was news to us. None of us is aware of any hispanic relative. Maybe, that accounts for her darker skin and my father's darker skin. We always thought we had a First Nations ancestor.

      .............................
"Evil" is the antithesis to the virtue: 'humanity'. Humanity is the characteristic that defines the human spirit. Humanity is symbiosis across humans and society. 'Humanity' exceeds 'social-darwinism'.
      .............................
      NEURO-PERSONALITY
      .............................
"SENSORY-FEELERS" ARE LARGELY RESPONSIBLE FOR SPREADING DISINFORMATION AND HATE TOWARDS ENTJ/INTJ (AGAINST "THINKERS" IN GENERAL)-BOTH IRL AND ON THE INTERNET; DESPITE THOSE NEURO-PERSONALITY TYPES BEING A BLESSING TO SOCIETY AND ALL OF MANKIND! THEY DESERVE BETTER! 😤
'ESFJ', 'ESFP', ISFP and ISFJ are a pathogen to humanity, and 'then' Cluster-B (depending on they neuro-personality).
THEIR "FEELINGS 'IS' THEIR REALITY", THEY ALSO HAVE A MALICIOUS-MIND BY DEFAULT (excluding normal ISFJ). DESPITE HAVING MALICIOUS INTENT THEY ARE ALL EMOTIONALLY-WEAK AND PRONE TO COVERT/VULNERABLE-NARCISSISM.
      ...............................
Also... To intelligent readers (who do 'not’ have a ‘pathological disregard for rationality and reality').
I recommend researching 'narcissistic personality disorder' (NPD) / 'cluster-B'; and know that they are the 'root of all evil' (especially 'ESFJ/ESTJ-narcissist'; Myers-Briggs reference, look it up)!
European 'ESFJ' are the worst personality type, and they are responsible for inventing 'racism' and colonization! It is in their neuro-psychology!!!
They are extremely 'manipulative' and often use 'looking pretty' to distract others from the witch's mind-games / mind-r@pe, e.g. gaslighting, playing the victim/damsel in distress, creating "flying-monkeys", and 'bribing' others (with money or BJ) to attack, or at times, kill someone for her. When caught, she will use her minions as scapegoats. European ESFJ are notorious for this especially in a racist context, e.g. Emmett Till.
xSFP and ISFJ (2W1) are the most complicit, narcissistic-enablers. ISFP also tend to be 'oblivious-codependents' (look up the definition). Like ESFJ, XSFP's "feelings 'is' their reality." Most are covert/vulnerable-narcissists.
ISFJ often perceive things only on the surface level (even by sensor standards), are suckers for a “pretty face", and their neuro-psychology makes them the ideal narcissitic-codependent and pawn to the ESFJ (blind-loyalty, surface level perception, susceptibility to covert-narcissism). Lastly, ISFJ are notorious for impersonating other people's identities IRL and on the internet.
      SUMMARY
Evil personality: 'ESFJ' (ALL), ESTJ (Cluster-b), ISFJ-2W1 (covert-narc/enabler).
[Secretly] Evil and narcissist-friendly gunts/flying-monkey: ISFP (ALL), ESFP (ALL), and ISFJ (2W1 enable ESFJ).
☝️ALL of them are secretly emotionally-disturbed, hence their need to create conflict as a distraction (at other people's expense, truly evil).
      Spread the word! Thank you.
      ___________
Research ref: Raudha Athif, Ghislaine Maxwell, Marilyn Monroe, Karen, ESFJ-narcissists, ESFJ-neurology, Gaslighting, Amber Heard, Fake feminism, Rising of a shield hero (Malty-'ESFJ'; XSFX spread disinformation online. ISFJ is the main culprit; ISFJ largely perceive things on the surface level), 'Brood-parasitism’- XSFJ natural psychology.

If it’s just melanin then how were African descent given citizenship but melanated Indians weren’t.. if it’s skull characteristics, physical features etc then how were white people given citizenship but Caucasoid Indians weren’t. He challenged their hypocrisy and definition of race itself. It was just hard for them to admit that they are the same race as North Indian people coz they saw Indians as inferior or alien.

As we pull back and take a birds-eye view, here is another big takeaway, There is not a single pre-civil rights era state, federal, or supreme court case involving a plaintiff or class of plaintiffs seeking to be declared black. For any reason whatsoever, including access to immigration or citizenship. Sicily is off the coast of Africa, Meaning technically a case could have been pressed to be declared African or black in the courts, no such case exists, Egyptians and other North Africans hail from Africa so a case could have been pressed for a declaration that they qualify as black, they instead pressed a legal case to be declared white, Indians during the British empire were legally black in the empire and several regions of India received significant amounts of black African admixture during the Portuguese, British and Arab eras of occupation. The Sidi are a relatively large black African community in India that have lived there since the 15th century frankly any Indian could have claimed membership in this group as intermixing among this group is as profound as the intermixing between African Americans and white Americans, Many Indians during the British imperial period were indeed Africans having been born and raised in Africa for several generations. No court records any such assertion made by any Indian in an effort to maintain their citizenship or to gain access to citizenship. There are also no cases of any non visibly black Latin American asserting their African ancestry in the courts as a path to citizenship, even though obviously being declared black or an African was a legal possibility, no one ever purposely sought such a designation in a court of law. One has to ask, why? If whiteness was closed to you and there was a path to immigration or citizenship available through the black community why did none of these groups who could have pressed such a claim ever seek to do so? Possibly because such a legal designation would have given access to only the meager social status and opportunities available to blacks in America and open them to the legal, cultural, and social restrictions blacks in America were forced to accept as their lot in life ergo being declared black was undesirable for any reason. Better no citizenship than the 4th class citizenship enjoyed by black Americans at that time. That is another takeaway from all of this legal seeking of whiteness.

@@nytn A question worth asking is why? Why was the white power structure amenable to black African migration to the united states. Obviously, that power structure had no great love for or fidelity to Africans or people of African ancestry so to make such generous space in the legal structure for them raises questions. Possibly it was because blacks were such a tightly legally, socially, and customarily controlled group in the U. S. with very few pathways out of the labor cast and no practical pathway to structural power making them a relatively safe bet to remain in their culturally designated place. I am of course making an educated guess, however, possibly this is a question we should be asking.

Gandhi also wanted Indians to be treated differently from Blacks by the British rulers in South Africa. I guess the morale of the story is that nothing good can ever come out of these imaginary identities (and unfortunately subjugated people rarely get a choice in this matter), but too much power is at stake now to just walk away from it, so they just keep complicating it and mixing it with other systems of discrimination and domination as a way of fighting these challenges to its logic. About a year or two ago this plumbing contractor at my job was talking to my boss. Both Long Island, NY born and raised guys. The plumber began complaining about how he had to move from his childhood hometown "finally" because it became "overrun" woth Indian families. A few thoughts:
    • I should've asked him what he meant by "overrun ", because more than like he was probably talking about a handful of families at the most.
    • While currently the name of the exact town he was talking about escapes me, *I do* remember it being a bit of a middle to upper middle class area. So this guy isn't even making a classist point, which would be bad enough. Besides the fact that he said with his own mouthpiece, "Indian families", the type of people he's talking about are PMC professionals. Doctors, teachers, engineers, execs, etc. So even without mentioning race or nationality, it's abundantly clear what the problem is with this guy.
    • Of course, as disgusting as this all is, I find this bit ironic, because just being from the NY area I'm very familiar with more than a few people of Indian decent who seem to want to be a part of that coveted white supremacist power structure so bad. Which oftentimes results manifests itself as anti-Blackness¹. That mentality is also prevalent in other groups of minorites including Latinos and even Black people as well. But, cozying up to want to be included in a community of people that absolutely cannot stamd you is wild to me.

Across the Americas, many immigrant groups have sought to distance themselves from Africans in order to gain status - all European groups, East Asians, South Asians, Latin Americans entering the US in this last century. In Latin America, it was the same. The Spanish promoted “blanqueamento” or “mejorar la raza,” where families could climb the social ranks by progressively marrying lighter skinned individuals. The threat is that if those new immigrant groups were to join forces with the African communities, the dominant group would lose economic power.

The term "Caucasian" is used to describe people who have origins in Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. However, in 1923, the Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind that people of Indian descent were not considered white by the common American definition, and therefore were not eligible for citizenship. The court's ruling stated that while anthropologists classified Indians as Caucasian, their dark skin was considered "physical evidence" of their nonwhiteness. Who cares? They appear like dark white people, their features are like European people not Western African people but with that said so are many North African and Eastern African look like European people with sun tans. So what do we do? Why is it bad to be black? It's only bad to be black, dark, tan when your are discriminated against and these are antiquated standards? It is extremely unfortunate that people of African descent around the world have accepted the West's color labeling and decided to call themselves Black instead of Africans.
As far as Indians are concerned, there are dark skinned, tan skinned and light skinned people among us. Labeling us Black or Brown or White, and putting us in different buckets is another division we don't need. Aryians were actually an ancient people who were Indo-Iranians. It designated those who belonged to the 'Aryan' (Iranian) ethnic stock, spoke the language and followed the religion of the 'Aryas.’.’ The Rigveda and Avesta agreed that the essence of their shared parental Indo-Iranian identity was linguistic and ritual, not racial. If a person sacrificed to the right gods in the right way using the correct forms of the traditional hymns and poems, that person was an Aryan.

    • @pete6300
      @pete6300 ปีที่แล้ว +18

The caste system existed in one form or another for a lot longer than that. The British established the national system. Before Britain conquered India there were quite a few kings controlling territories each with their own structure. Even then just like other Asian cultures darker skin usually meant farmer. So nobles and the warrior class would naturally be lighter.

    • @free22
      @free22 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Yes, a light skinned group is on top of the caste system but the caste system in India was not based entirely on skin color the way it was used in the Americas. So there could be darker or lighter individuals within a caste. In some regions of the Americas, they advocated the one drop rule and in other regions, mostly Latin America, blancamiento or “mejorar la raza,” where your family could marry light skin people and move up the social ranks. That was never the case in India.

Ozawa v. United States (1922): Beginning with the decision of Circuit Judge Sawyer… the Federal and state courts, in an almost unbroken line, have held that the words ‘white person’ were meant to indicate a person of what is popularly known as the Caucasian race . . So, "Caucasians" could become citizens. But most Indians are Caucasians, yes, but they are not white, so no citizenship. 1923 Supreme Court case United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind ruled that people of Indian descent were not considered white by the common American definition, and therefore were not eligible for citizenship. The court acknowledged that anthropologists classified Thind, a high caste Hindu from Punjab, as Aryan and Caucasian, but said that the word "Aryan" is more about linguistics than physical characteristics. The court also noted that the average person could clearly see differences between Indians and white Americans. This ruling, along with another case called Ozawa, prevented Asian immigrants like Indians and Japanese from becoming citizens. .....
The U.S. Census Bureau has over the years changed its own classification of Indians. In 1930 and 1940, Indian Americans were classified as "Hindu" by "Race", and in 1950 and 1960, they were categorized as Other Race, and in 1970, they were deemed white.

Yes, Persians and high caste Indians think of themselves as Arians.
Like Semitic, the term Aryan originally referred to a group of languages, and only later was it used to refer to the supposed races of people who spoke those languages.
In India, the term originally meant "noble." Later, this came to refer to people of the "noble" castes. But originally it did not.
When the oldest Buddhist texts refer to"The Aryan eight-fold path," he was not speaking about race or caste. We know that because he opposed the caste system AND MADE IT IRRELEVANT IN HIS OWN COMMUNITIES. While in most of Indian society, people above the untouchable caste could not take food or water from untouchables, Buddha told his monks, who could be for many castes, to accept food and water from anybody who offered it.
So yes, the caste system is an ancient form of racism, even though now the color difference is not always so great. But it originally was based of which tribes were conquered and which tribe conquered them, and the fact that the conquerors has lighter skin. Thus, the term "cast" referees to skin tone, too.
The reason that now people of different castes now often look the same is because people of different races and ethnicities and everything else have sex with each other, whether they are supposed to or not, which is why the idea of anybody being racially pure is absurd.
By the way, Hitler played a big role in getting the Persons to think of themselves as Aryans. He wanted Iran as an ally, so he told them that they were Arians, and thus members of the biological elite whom he was fighting for. That is why the nation changed its name from Persia to Iran, which means Arian.
Evan, some folks in India supported him for the same.reason. He was fighting for the Arians, so he would fight for them, they imagined.
Obviously, The Nazis did not think of Persons or Indians as Aryans at all.

is that why Buddha's most followers were from then 'Brahmin' high caste and was cremated by his 'caste' rituals. There was no so called racism in ancient times as you claim an because even though you admit Aryan is not a race but then you repeat the european version of ancient indian history which is racist itself.

If you are northern Mexican you are very white.
There are plenty of white people in the us who have indigenous blood but because their ancestry is a European with very light skin no one treats them as indigenous.
If your indigenous roots go back to your great grandparents it’s not recent enough and you’re not qualified to be indigenous
