      Hi, Ms. Mae Mae
If you've never had beef shank, I highly suggest it. Old School Soul Food here on TH-cam has a recipe I think, and in the video he said it tastes like oxtail...so if you like those, you would like this.
Please let me know what you think of this recipe. I'm sure you and your family will love it.
Thanks for watching and commenting! 🥩🥔🥕🍠🧅

Then you definitely need to try them. They're not a common cut of meat, but they should be because they're fantastic! 😀👍
And yes, browning the meat definitely does add a ton of flavor

My mom always made mexican style vegetable soup and she used beef shank we all fought for the bone marrow to spread on a corn tortilla. The shank meat was always very tender. Yum! I will surely try your recipe.

Looks great! Thanks for the info on beef shanks, I've never used them, as other commenters have said. It's nice to know that it's a leaner cut of meat. Thar will help in my weight loss journey.

      Hi, Kay!
You're very welcome. I wish more people knew about this cut of beef since it's so delicious (and usually cheaper, too). If you choose the right shank, I think it's definitely leaner than chuck roast.
Let me know what you think when you give this cut of meat a try. I know you'll like it! 🥩🥔🥕

@@ParnellTheChef Yes! Caldo de Res is so delicious. I normally just boil the meat for an hour and a half with a bay leaf , salt , pepper, whole garlic bulb, 1/2 an onion and some beef bullion. Once the meat is tender I add all my veggies, another 1/2 onion, Potatoes, fresh corn , 10 minutes later zucchini , celery , carrots and a small hand full of cilantro. It is just a bowl of love. You can add other cuts of beef as well, but I must say, the bone marrow makes it extra tasty. I hope you try it one day Chef. And thank you again for sharing your amazing recipes with us all.

    • @ParnellTheChef
      @ParnellTheChef  ปีที่แล้ว

@@deborahramirez3445 That does sound good, especially the cilantro. There's a similar dish in Argentina called "puchero," and in the Philippines as well with a very similar name. I think a lot of Spanish-speaking countries have something similar. Caldo de res is on my "to-make" list at some point 😀

    Hi Parnell,
I never had beef shanks but this recipe and how the meat looked after cooking looks so very tempting and delicious. I’m sold. I’ll give it a try. Glad you mentioned about not using red wine as I don’t keep it at home….I’ll try it your way. Love veggies cooked that way also. Onion soup mix, to me, always does the trick in roast, stews etc.
    Thanks for a terrific recipe.
By the way, the meat sauce n veggies was super scrumptious. I had it over linguine, the only pasta in my refrigerator and I loved it. I’ll get three more meals out of it. I used Rana fresh pasta from my grocery store rather than a box.. didn’t have any pasta except the linguine in my house. Couldn’t believe it when I went looking for some. Turned out to be the best, lol!
I thanked you with each bite, 😊😊😊😊.
It’s been fun trying your recipes and learning new things in the kitchen, appreciate it immensely.
Have a fantastic and blessed week and will see you Monday.
    Enjoy!

      Hi, Kathy!
Personally, I think that beef shank is one of the most underrated cuts of beef. It does have a reputation for being tough--you need to braise it or use it in soup--but if you cook it right, it's very good.
And yes, I almost never have red wine. I think my substitute works perfectly--the roast didn't taste like vinegar at all. And I agree that onion soup mix is the magical ingredient in many things.
I'm so glad you liked the meat sauce with vegetables, too! I think that fresh linguine would be the perfect type of pasta to eat with it. Sometimes unplanned changes to recipes or flavor combinations turn out to be the best, haha
And as always, I appreciate the continued support. It means a lot.
Get ready for another recipe next Monday 🥩🥔🥕🍠🧅😎

      Hi, Patricia!
I don't drink wine very often, so if you use 3/4 cup grape juice and 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, that's the perfect substitute.
Let me know if you give this recipe a try! 😋
