See, Overwatch was already diverse, but actually managed to simultaneously keep the characters cool-looking and iconic. You had a chubby girl like Mei but she was legit super cute, a huge fatty like Roadhog but full of personality and weirdly badass, actually cool-looking robots, all kinds of races, hot babes and cool dudes without overwhelming fanservice so no one was uncomfortable and everyone felt represented with actual characters people actually wanted to play. Then you get this shit where they wanna push SO HARD into bizarre directions, too hard too fast, too weird, too unhinged and most of all *unappealing* with the character designs and not just a few but seemingly almost every character being LGBT in some way, 1 white guy and like 5 black characters, even the aliens and robots just look... odd and bizarre and not 'cool' by any stretch of the imagination, NO ONE is going to like this or support it, if it gets any at all it's going to be from the exact group they made it for (which is much, much smaller than they'd hoped) for virtue-brownie-points not because they actually like it at all, as they grit their teeth, tears streaming down their face that they're forcing themselves to inhale literal garbage more and more to keep 'promoting the message' or whatever. I dunno, man. Hopefully the pendulum swings back in the other direction soon.

I remember when Kiriko was unveiled at TGS, DeviantArt had a TON of her art within the first few days. Not this Concord lineup of donkey-ass and cheap trash. These characters have no…good theme? I don’t even know how to describe it. For example, Mei is the freeze snow ice researcher, and you can see that reflected in her gear. Her design flows well from her large snow shoes, fur lined jacket, and there’s a consistent theme across her tech. Widowmaker encompasses the spider theme well with her multi lens head gear, tight and minimal armored body suit, and thin but aggressive looking figure. Then you have something like that yellow thing with some kind of fungus or bug matter growing out of it. And for some reason it’s wearing a chest plate with an ice cream scoop on its necklace while have rags covering its lower body. And then you got that buff lady with an aquarium for a helmet. Like wtf. You LITERALLY CANNOT make their designs worse. What creature looks like a mushroom man with random bits and blobs on random areas. That yellow thing looks like you asked 5 different people to draw something based on a theme, but you tell them to each draw a different part and you stick all their drawings together at the end. There’s no flow to the design at all.

Overwatch was an instant hit because the characters were well made with heroic intentions. Then they "trend-washed" them and suddenly it's more important to know that Soldier 76 was Gaaaayayayyaya than what the actual hell he was doing in Dorado, which had a freaking cinematic. Lore and gameplay was swapped with modern extremist trends. Want to know why it's failing?
On a side note I don't care if a character is gay or straight. Back in the days it was character flavour, not the entire character persona. Great writing makes great characters and poor writing hidden behind media propaganda will not attract any real fans

Absolutely agree. Growing up I've had a TON of heroes from movies & games that I aspire to emulate that were nothing like how I look (races and genders).
It's more about the quality of a person's character that we can all relate to. I think most people would agree they'd take a well-written character that's nothing like them rather than a poorly-written one that looks like them any day of the week.

Roadhogs design has elements that gives him a personality outside of just being obese. The pig aesthetic, tattoos, gas mask, biker gang style etc. You know at a glance who he is, what he's like and what he does. Here on the other hand, cant name one thing that you instantly recognize and can use to identify a part of her personality.
All she is, is R O U N D and wears a blue jacket thing.
It's honestly shocking a professional, non-indie game studio developed an entire roster of characters bereft of any personality from their designs. You get nothing but physical attributes from any character, no hints at individual traits, or potentially compelling quirks.
Not to mention, the models themselves feel drab and under-detailed. That could be mitigated if the base designs were interesting in any way, but... they're all just shitty Star Wars extras!
Literally one single OW character has much better design and charisma than the entire roster of this trashy game 😂🐷

Well the character is a literal trash can. His weapon and abilities are centered, quite literally, on trash. That doesn't make its design any better, though.
@@Tawleyn If the design idea for this bot was for it to be centered around trash, they coulda done so much. A trash compacter in its chest that lobs solid cubes at players, a weapon that acts like a garbage disposal with rotating blades to shred enemy healthbars. Disposal of garbage isn't a clean job that can be done totally clean, there's gonna be a mess at some point and it could be reflected in the characters design. Give its chassis an aggressive structure or something. Hell, maybe give it some sort of fire ability or weapon and add fire damage to its body to show it's been weathered from usage. Instead it's a yellow waste bin with a vacuum. Hardly recognizable or unique.

And people love him for that, they're in on the joke. Everyone wants summer Hog in a speedo skin. This thing in Concord? This is totally serious.
There's a good reason here. The game is balanced around large hitboxes. It's not a traditional shooter and it's meant to be more like league of legends from a first person. This is why big hitboxes are made to make it easier to land hits. This game was also originally supposed to be based on Warhammer, especially the Ogre Kingdoms and I'm lying.

Most forms of entertainment is about different types of fanservice. That MoP trailer has actual fight choreography, 3 massive guys duking it out, and is just fun to watch. Comparing that to a DEI female dominated trailer with no action, no story, and characters just staring into the camera is just no comparison. It's an insult to the MoP trailer that still holds up to this day.

There is a clear, distinct difference between the "Fans of the Game", and the "Fans of the Characters", indeed. And yes, Blizzard 100% knows, but obviously will never say it out loud.
