I see I'm part of many people who played this on their parents work computers mid 90s lol. Memories of this game are so surreal. Was some magic to the early games like this. Wolfenstein, dare 2 dream, kid pix, ski free
Same here! My dad brought me and my brother to the police department where he worked and we were allowed to play games on one of the computers at the station :) We loved this game! This and Dyna Blaster! :)
This was the first video game I played ever. My mom brought me in her old office and one of his co-workers decided to let me play on one of the work PCs while I was there. I was probably not even close to being 5 but somehow, I still remember how this game looked like. That was also the last time I played Duke on DOS to this day.
I've been searching for this game for years, last time I saw it played, it was around 2000-2002, I was around 6. I have never felt such a strong nostalgic feeling.
Same here!!! I played this back in 2001 when I was 6 on our old family computer and it’s probably one of the most nostalgic games to me out there. I just recently played it again and wow it just instantly took me back to those days !!!! 😭
We were looking at old photos of my 2 boys at 'Christmas Work,' as they used to call it. All the parents at our IT company brought their kids to work before the Christmas break. In one of the photos, one of my boys pointed out the Duke Nukem image on the monitor behind him. My colleagues and I used to play it at lunch. Brought back memories.
@@Dosgamert Hell yeah, Duke Nukem II was the best Duke game in my opinion too. Few games make me feel as good just blasting the everliving hell out of everything, and it all blows up so good. The sound is awesome, especially the bassy explosions and gunshots , but even the item pickup noises, and the visual effects were some of my favorite of the era (or indeed, of any era). You're absolutely tearing it up on your alien abductors' homeworld, and the game sure makes you feel like it.
Duke was so much better in his humble beginnings... Duke 1 and 2 were awesome! Duke 3D - well let's just say it would have been awesome if they'd left out all the dirty garbage, and same from then on... Call me a prude, but DN3D ticks me off, because the game had SO MUCH going for it - the 3D engine was groundbreaking for its time! But, they just HAD to oversexualize it, making it inappropriate for those who would easily find themselves playing the first two and wanting to continue with Duke, only to find that he had turned into an extremely creepy bully... Sure, you could say he was always a cocky jerk, but there was a humorous, mocking tone to his character before; but as they developed Duke, they really wanted to make it clear that he had literally no decency or empathy whatsoever... I know most people probably prefer him this way, but I think it's a shame... No class...
Thanks for the upload i remember playing this game when i was 4 years old. Iv been trying to find out what it was called for the last 5 years. Finally. Thanks alot brings back soooooo many memories.

This was always a favorite, I played the hell out of it. Definitely one of the best apogee games with a really great atmosphere. And I love those sound effects
I had this reaction to the legend of zelda show. I was not born when it aired, but the super mario show was on netflix and like every five episodes, the legend of zelda show intro would play. It influenced my dreams, ending up in a realy weird one that i remember parts of for a long time.I was just looking around the internet one day, and i see a meme about it. This makes me curious and i watch 5 episodes and my brain can't take any more.
Wow! What a blast from the past! I remember playing this game around 1992/1993 on my dads old Windows 3.1 or 3.2 PC. Can't actually remember if I ever finished the game haha.
This, Sokoban, Defender of the crown, Gorillas, Sid meirs pirates, Test drive, Lemmings and Arkanoid was my entire childhood that made me into a complete game nerd!

This was one of the first video games I ever played. I remember being so young playing this at my house and getting so pissed because for my age it was hard lol what nostalgia
Wow I beat this game as a kid in School's computer class. The PCs where Windows 95 maybe older? and came with a set of games, This one, the sci-fi pong game where you break blocks, a billard game and something else. All the kids where playing Billards and everyone came to watch when I beat the final boss here. Couple years later, Duke Nukem 64 became my fav game ever I was literally invincible in MP xD
ha haaa I love that stupid laser trap in the yellow platform stage that can't actually hurt you but that you have to go near frequently, just so it can annoy you with the noise it makes. I am surprised I didn't even get that far back when I played this. I never even knew about the climbing claws. I wonder why they didn't emphasize that gameplay element more.
Really underappreciated classic, imo. For an action game of the time, the open levels and exploration are all integrated incredibly well. I'm aware Metroidvanias are a thing but there's something to be said for a more linear game like this where the levels feel big and full of secrets. Also the scoring system(s) are genuinely very varied and fun, and add loads of depth to replaying the game. Is there any anything more satisfying then seeing all those bonuses appear in the save corridors? It might have been the only game I played when I was younger where I actually have a damn about the high score. Even the narrative where the main antagonist taunts you through the game on those monitors is pretty unique as well. I've played all the classic run and gun game series, like Contra, Metal Slug, Turrican, and then just about every other game where you are a dude shooting a gun in a 2D space, but this game has something going on about it I've rarely seen elsewhere. I'm aiming to marry together the game concepts in this game and the other series I've mentioned in my next game project, to make the perfect run and gun by my own standards.
I think they should make computers that have ALL the games Epic Megagames and Apogee ever made on them and sell them. There'd be some games that people would still play
I still own almost every Apogee game. I miss those days, the Golden Age of gaming. Now look at how corporatized and sterilized gaming is, most companies cater to the dumbest, lowest common denominator instead of the passionate fans, releasing games that are so casual they entirely lack challenge.

Man....Duke Nukem sure has gone a long way since his "humble" beginnings.
But I do prefer this over DN Forever. My favourite is Duke Nukem II.
DNII fares better than this one. It doesn't even have music. Also, IKR! Forever felt like I was playing fucking Resistance instead of a Duke game.
