i like that they still use the classic style lightbar that rotates rather than flashes
I liked the beacon lights (the rotating ones) more then the LED lights they use now for the cars

@@captaindontre4140 um, those 4 buttons he was hitting in the very center were the siren tone buttons. They only work if the vehicle is out of 'park'. In 'park', the siren is automatically disabled.
The sirens usually even have a label that says "Use positions 2 & 3 for continuous siren" and the newer cars have park kill.

depends on who does it sometimes the officer who's not driving does it so it can be easier for the one that's driving
When the car is in drive and the lights are on, the horn will switch the tones too.

Talk about overengineering. No hate towards the NYPD, was my dream job as a kid. But why the need for such a complicated control box? I've spent some time in emergency services and in general we had one large switch for the lights, and another large switch for the siren. Different tones could be accessed by turning a dial, and it was in a more easily accessible location so the driver could play around all they wanted with the sirens while still focusing on the road.
Heck, even worked security for a mall way back and the parking lot patrol vehicle had sirens. (Why? I haven't the slightest clue). But it had a neat little set up with a controller that could either be placed in a mount or held in your hand and you had all the tone options and lighting options right there on the little controller. I used to goof around with them once the mall was closed and I had the whole parking lot to myself.

@@JerryMetalManBattaglia very true nypd has a “park kill system” meaning any time the car is in park the wail yelp or fast siren will not work only the air horn and manual work every other siren is disabled until take out of park.
