Great selection by historic conductors. Of course, couldnt be out Beethoven's 5th and 9th. I miss one: Mahler's 2nd (Resurrection) final. The most poignant and emotional final ever. Please include that one in your next selection of best finals.

I would have gone with Mahler 2 for the top spot ..but the 8th is the next logical contender and I like the way Eschenbach slows down the final notes and the immense way the orchestra and chorus are spread out- but maybe the you tube recording was bad because it seemed there was not enough "Tutti" in the final moments. Good list

Loved this video! All picks were great! Finales to Bruckner's Symphony 8 (Celibidache or Karajan), Saint Saens' Organ Syphony (Chung), Sibelius 2 (Karajan), Liszt's Faust Symphony (Bernstein), and Brahms Symphony 1 (Karajan) would have been other excellent additions. Shostakovich and Messiaen if you wanna go nuts!

What the NYP loves most about Maazel and Mehta is that they don't have to work. They just play it f, at a medium speed and their toad-headed critics and status seeking audiences think it's just fine. The people of NY are a great people, but the aforementioned group are a sore on the ass of American art.

The directors and musical groups are poorly chosen, it is not that they are bad, but they are not suitable for the chosen works. How is it possible to choose Maazel for Dvorak's 9th Symphony or Mehta for Brahms' 2nd, and so on and on.

NY Philharmonic. Oboists. No one could ever take the place of Harold Gomberg and Joseph Robinson. The greatest are a thing of the past. Orchestras are not what they used to be. Yes they are good musicians but hardly any Artists.
