I remember watching this on TV I think I was around 11 years old 😁 I even had the Six Million Dollar bionic doll where you look through the back of his head out his bionic eye 😊
It was the extra power pack, Steve had 3, and his friend had 4. Yet, later in the episode, Steve restrained him with superior strength. How about that.
Believe it or not, that signature, iconic sound effect didn't start getting used regularly until about halfway through the 2nd season. It did appear a couple of times before, but they didn't tie it to his bionic strength every time like they did later. I was shocked when I started watching the show from the start and kept asking the same thing: "Where is the ta-na-na-na-na sound??"
Last time I saw this great episode was 50 years ago. Richard Moder played Barney Miller, the 7 Million Dollar Man. Season 2 Episode 5. I remember vividly the Bar scene where Barney Miller challenges Steve Austin(Lee Majors) to an Arm wrestle proceeding to demolish the table during his arm wrestle victory over Steve Austin. Guess that extra million the scientists spent on Miller gave him some extra Horsepower. A great final battle between Miller and Steve Austin was Epic with Austin coming out victorious. Brings back great memories from 1974 the year before JAWS was released.
The best ever opening titles for TSMDM was when he was on a golf course & using his bionic eye zooms in on a flagged hole from about 460yds ...hits the ball & it goes straight in the hole with the flag standing !..Classic !
Barney had both arms and legs, but his mind was unbalanced. A former race car driver deprived of his celebrity. Steve was a military man, disciplined and capable of following orders.
Steve wanted to serve his country and for the betterment of all. Barney was self-centered and he just wanted fame and the spotlight. With no care for anyone else.
They met again in a later episode where they went from rivals (if not enemies) to allies. This first encounter they sent from obvious rivals to enemies.
You'd think Oscar and the guys would've screened for personality issues when giving a human enhanced powers - anything thats there will be magnified like a serious case of ego-mania😄😄 Can you imagine giving one of these celebrity influencer whatevers something like that
Fun fact; I told my parents that I wanted Leisure suits in 77(after watching the six million dollar man sport them), I was in second grade and had one in each color for school
Whats funny about this is for this particular episode they made it as though the extra million meant stronger when in actuality getting "two" bionic arms instead of one was the difference in costs
No they didn’t. They didn’t even mention cost - that’s you projecting. In fact the point was that Barney was playing possum using human levels of strength and Steve was responding with human levels… until Barney unleashes his big surprise and lets Steve know he’s bionic too.
I don't know if Steve's bionics could be turned up, but Mr 7 million when having a check up, tells the man to turn his bionics all the way up. I didn't know this for nearly 50 years...
@@GaryBurkey-p6r they switched it to Barney Hiller. Not 2 confuse it with the TV series Barney Miller. Played by actor Monte Markham(Barney) now age 89. Such a memorable character.
@ only Hal Linden(Barney Miller) age 93 Max Gail(Stan) age 81 and Barbara Barrie(Elizabeth Miller) age 93 r the only living Barney Miller cast members left. The rest r all deceased.
I have to say that I don't remember this specific episode even though I watched the series faithfully. It was brilliant the way that Barney pressured Steve to arm wrestle him knowing what the outcome would be. Loved the close up of Barney's blue eyes and smirk. He enjoyed playing with Steve's strength as evidenced by allowing Steve to move his arm so that he was close to being pinned before using his superior strength to force Steve's arm back into a neutral position. He also allowed Steve to do the same knowing full well that his strength was far superior to Steve's. Also liked when Barney pinned Steve and shattered the table. It was cool to see someone stronger than Steve.
Considering that the insurance premiums keep going up in California, ...., not event that. A 7 million dollar man has a thumb implant (and a cheap one too).
Always loved the music . The character Barney Miller is seen again in episode 3-09 'The Bionic Criminal', when the seven million dollar man is reactivated. In the latter episode, the character is re-named Barney Hiller, probably to avoid confusion with the title character of the then-recently premiered sitcom Barney Miller, also airing on ABC
@Science Fiction Station: A great clip. Please may you show when Steve takes the Seven Million Dollar Man on his first mission (the Seven Million Dollar Man in action) and, also, the battle between the Six Million Dollar Man and the Seven Million Dollar Man in this classic episode.
Just to really see what was going on, Steve Austin let Barney win the arm wrestling contest, in my view. When Steve takes Barney on his first mission, Barney eventually overdoes using his bionics and Steve with his bionic arm, holds back Barney's bionic arm (Barney tries to pull out of this with his arm but cannot).
So glad they didn't spoil it with overdoing the bionic sound effects(which they did later on....in the flashback,in a later episode)...of course they used none here.....sometimes less is more!
I put the audio from the scene where they were taking the medal case back and Barney went crazy on those guys in place of the audio here. I added a few bionic sounds where appropriate. It came out pretty good.
Good episode. Barney had both legs and both arms, hence the extra mil. Unsatisfying ending when Hiller was powered down to normal strength at the end, to preserve his sanity.
Monte Markham was the first choice to play Steve Austin. He is a better actor than Lee Majors but he injured himself in an accident. Lee Majors was the second choice. He won over the producers and the audience. They have written a special episode for Monte Markham with his own theme song (The Seven Million Dollar Man episode).
I'm 55 years of age.
I still have my six million dollar man action figure ...in the box.
(I'm 56.) Is it the one where you could roll up the skin on the arm and take out the bionics? I loved that one!
Wow thats pretty cool 👍🏻

Probably it is thousands of dollars worth...easily.

I heard stories that he was supposed to play the original six million dollar man, but was offered to Lee Majors.Thank you for sharing this with us.
These two fighting each other (and Bigfoot) are some of the reasons why I had to have seasons 1 and 2 of "The Six Million Dollar Man" on DVD!

The excitement when we heard the theme music for the Bionic man was over the top.
