I would say that many of those features are possible and some are right around the corner to being possible. I would say in about 10 years we ill be able to build a car that is not much different then Kitt.

@deaddudegaming right now, Tesla is closest to that reality. They have things like full self drive, summon, etc. The other automakers have been very lazy with technological advancements in vehicles. On the flip side, many consumers are too dumb to use such advanced features and too lazy to learn

And yet almost everything produced during it is hot garbage that doesnt hold up today. Movies probably do a better job than TV because they were just trying to tell 1 long story as where TV just had episodic content so everything had to bet setup and concluded in a 40 min episode creating rushed, cheesy, unconnected content. KITT was the only cool thing about the show... Well KITT and KARR but KARRs potential was squandered. The only times we get 2 part episodes they are typically very dull

100 years after these TV series ended their first run they will still look as powerful as they did when they first aired. What Star Trek series was to the 1960's and the Six Million Dollar Man series was to the 1970's, Knight Rider series was to the 1980's. The reason it still looks like a car from current or future times is because of the simplicity. Scifi stories often make the mistake of making their technology look way too overdesigned and gimmicky which makes it look dated only a few years after release. But KITT's simplicity looks perfectly in line with the minimalist style that technology is actually going for thus making it's design a timeless classic. Whoever called the shots on KITT's design definitely had good understanding of simplicity often being the best approach.

@Donny, I think some of the advancements like lane assist, auto-drive, rearview cameras, and other upcoming vehicle inventions were all inspired by Knight Rider in some form or other. Naturally; things like turbo boost, and the incredible molecular bonded shell that makes the car nearly indestructible is going to be a bit out of reach for a while. The "original" specs and some of the car's features that were in the novelizations included a supposed experimental hydrogen fuel cell tank -given that every time KITT cruises, he has a turbine whine that is almost similar to a jet engine - it sort of makes sense that KITT did have an experimental engine to go along with it. That made him the most fuel efficient car that didn't require regular trips to the local gas station. The only downside is that KITT had to have a mobile base nearby for mission-specific one-offs depending on the needs of the case if he wasn't near the Foundation's home base.

MrSasrabirawa it’s the lines. The original Trans Am design really was accentuated with the Knight 2000’s design - they just streamlined the look to make the original KITT appear that much more sleek. The Shelby Cobra’s base design for the Knight 3000 saw little alteration - but the body type felt strange, especially the placement of the scanner, making the 3000 appear inelegant.

When i was younger, I didnt get the Darth Vader bathroom reference, as I had never watched Star Wars until i went with a friend to see The Phantom Menace at 19 years old.
Now i chuckle when i watch this scene, because it looks exactly what I'd imagine Vaders bathroom to look like, (maybe he had a small one on that Death Star of his). The great thing about the show, was that the choice of the car was very crucial. Glen Larson specifically wanted the new Firebird as KITT, because he thought it was the only potentially availalbe car that would do the justice to a futuristic car, with it's design and aerodynamics. Even though, the car was quite heavily modified, the nose is much sharper than in standard Trans Am, and it looks like it was meant to break through walls, like KITT in the show did.

I was 6 years old when this show came out. And I still love it today, despite my adult logic telling me I shouldn't. :D KARR, Goliath, that Thunderbird with the missiles in the grille, and that 4 wheel tank with the battering ram. All great stuff.

It was actually very well written and directed.
Today's shows just put plastic-y CGI everywhere

Today the usp of these shows are real stunts. But some like Knight Rider have great writing, editing and super sound effects And timeless Theme music.

I remember rewatching the series in the 90s on USA Network and this sequence definitely caught me off guard a little bit I mean I've heard the classic scanner sound I can whistle the classic scanner sound but the version of the scanner sound in this is almost eerie and combine that with all you see is the scanner light in the dark makes this whole sequence pure genius

Growing up watching Night Rider, Automan, StreetHawk, Airwolf an Blue Thunder, I always gravitated to 80's vehicular action tv series. I'm looking to get a 2000's Pontiac Formula Firebird in the livery of the original Knight Rider series, but as K.A.R.R. That black an silver version with the amber scan lights, but with a modern flair such as LED's, an other features. Would be an LSx based block an supercharged.

Knight Rider was definitely Hasselhoff's best work. He did such a great job of bringing the character of Michael Knight to life. For such a cheesy show, he and KITT were still so awesome together, the show could have been REALLY BAD, but it wasnt, because of them

The pilot episode of “Knight Rider” was as well written and well produced as maybe any show episode in the 1980s. Maybe the two hour “Ten Million Dollar Sheriff” from season 4 of “The Dukes of Hazzard” is very close. But, this episode was so well done.

While this show hasn't aged well, it's still probably my favorite show from its time period.
Also, I had an '82 Camaro (the same vehicle, but without the fancy headlights), and those things were a dream to drive. Unlike most passenger cars of the time, which swayed in turns, the Camaro and Firebird drove like they were on rails. Arguably my favorite car to drive that I ever had.
