I have not, I dabbled with the shoe world for a minute but decided to move on. I did make custom Birks for quite awhile and they were a hot item but I didn’t enjoy that very much. I also don’t have a patch machine, and that can make it difficult/timely working on some shoes. We might try it out again in the future but as of right now I’m not in that scope of leather work
I’ve learned that there are very few instances in this craft where there is only one right way to tackle a process. It’s a craft and we should allow ourselves to be creative and make what we want, how we want. That’s just my opinion
@@Girtyleatherco Happy New Year to you and your family. I have a question about the different types of "Blades" for carving. I just purchased an Ergo Handle Swivel Knife. Now I see different-angle blades to choose from. What would be great for someone starting out? I want to focus on doing lettering. What do you recommend?
My primary blade is a 1/4” thin blade from Barry King and I use it for everything now. I had a longer and thicker blade in my first swivel knife but I didn’t like it. I’ve also got a tiny angled blade that’s meant for super small work but I rarely use it. It’s generally personal preference but I feel like a 1/4” blade is fine with most small to medium work. If you’re carving some really long flowing stuff or long straight lines then a 3/8” blade might be better. But I make this one I have work for everything haha
38:29 Why do you leave the small loops out each side then pull them all taught at once while buckstitching? I’m just learning how to do that and haven’t seen that before…
I like to work in smaller sections like that to break up the monotony of pulling the entire piece of lace through each hole. I feel like I can finish it quicker like that as well, but that’s probably debatable. I have a full length video over buck stitching if you’d like to check it out
I appreciate you watching! I’ve actually got a custom order for one coming up on the books here in a few weeks I believe. If I can remember, I might try to share some of the process on it!
I don’t personally know the conversions but weaver leather and buckle guy for sure have conversion charts on their website that might be helpful for you!
@@Girtyleatherco Ok thank you. That belt came out fantastic! I have 2 Ostrich leg skins and a whole Ostrich skin I’m going to do overlays on wallets key rings etc. Thanks for sharing. I’m slowly getting things together to start making TH-cam videos maybe this month. Thanks again!
The leather needs to have the proper amount of moisture content and be cased well (not too wet, not too dry). The type of tool and quality of leather can play into the equation but moisture content is key. You might check out my “3 Simple Tips to Improve your Leather Tooling” video
I would probably put some type of top coat on it. I use Tan Kote more than anything but there’s a lot of options and it’s really just personal preference. Some of the dye pigment will more than likely just be sitting on top of the leather and come off as you apply the top coat.
I make my videos as informative as I can and provide content that I know I personally wanted to see throughout my journey with the craft. Everything I talk about is relative, and provides insight to why I do what I do, rather than leaving it up to interpretation. That’s just my style and more people appreciate it than not. I’m sorry if that doesn’t suit your preferences but that is how the majority of my videos will be.
Yeah he always starts with the piece already finished and then only shows a couple of swipes on a different piece 😂 I think he might be camera shy oh well
I have plenty of content showing projects from start to finish. But if you click on a video that’s meant to show a specific part of a process, then I’m going to mainly highlight that specific part of the process 🤷🏽♂️
I hate to be rude, but most people came here to learn, not just to observe the process, and the information conveyed by the crafter is invaluable, especially if they go into details. There should be plenty of "silent" build videos available for you to mesmerize at.
that is rude as heck. if you want to watch someone do leatherwork and not let you in on their process and details go find them. you wont learn nearly as much as you can from this man. his videos are gold, man. keep up the great videos Girty ❤
That blue is perfect! Clean work man and as always we appreciate the content & tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to make these

I appreciate that, thank you for watching!
Have you ever made custom tooled Nikes if so you should definitely make a video of how to

Very good work
I love how you tell us that "There are no set rules" regarding the creation process. That reduces the stress a lot, in my opinion.

Love your videos man 👍🏽 learned a lot from them. Have you ever done a 3 piece belt? Like rough out with a liner and tooled tips?
I appreciate you watching! I’ve actually got a custom order for one coming up on the books here in a few weeks I believe. If I can remember, I might try to share some of the process on it!
You can measure the thickness of the leather in millimeters. I can't differentiate in oz.

Love your videos. Why put the glue on both sides if it’s not a contact cement? Just curious because I’ve never seen anyone do it that way.
Which glue are you referring to?
@ Fiebings
The one I used is still a contact cement, it’s just not the type I typically use, which is Barge.

How do you get a good stamp mark that’s dark? I’ve been trying stamp work but they aren’t very bold

The video I requested on Instagram direct 😀
Hell yeah.
Where did you get the exacto knife
It’s from Hobby Lobby. There are a lot of different variations of handles but you can pick them up from any craft store or crafting section
I did a tool belt for work and dyed it dark brown. Do i need to sealed it or do i leave it just with the dye? Thank you

I'm dreaming whith Etham making an digital pattern of a Ranger Belt😊😊
I hate to be rude but can we see how you do it instead of all the darn talking!! Please! Thank you !😢😮
