It not only forces you to switch it up from time to time it also makes finding the next new weapon so exciting because that next skill could be a game changer (like Yuffie’s doppelgänger)
That was a rather clever choice. It forces you to change it up for a little bit but also rewards you for your efforts by letting you keep the rewards with your favorites.

I agree he is much better in rebirth. In remake I felt his ATB was way too slow so I focused on cloud and Tifa. Since they had much faster gains for abilities. In rebirth it seems they buffed the atb gain overall to help minimize auto attack and downtime
Yeah, I may be the minority but I think why I liked playing him is because I felt like the general on a battlefield, standing back, telling orders while I focused on healing and picking off aerial enemies. Largely, he is useless in combat if you don't have Overcharge or if you don't equip him with Elemental+Weakness of an enemy, which requires knowledge of what is upcoming. And his melee weapons are awful. Giving Barrett his Bonus Round ability to dramatically increase his stagger damage along with his overall survivability due to being a long-range tank makes him so much more viable in combat encounters in this game. If you use a party of Red, Cloud, and Barrett, give Red Provoke and Barrett will hardly be touched.
@@ianphillips103 they even improved all of his close range melee abilities in Rebirth, didn’t use them all the time but there were lots of places where you can actually use them now.

It’s ironic because in the original game. You stop using it once you leave midgard because everything else you find was just “better”. Most players spend the majority of ff7 with cloud wielding anything but the Buster Sword.
This is the best video I’ve seen about how to use the various weapons in Rebirth. Most other guides focus on where to find the weapons… which is strange because (I think) the game automatically offers (at weapon shops) any weapons that one fails to find during the main story missions.
Another factor for End Game is the AtkMAtk Materia. It will turn a physical focused Tifa into the second most powerful spellcaster in the game. Combined with the proper Spell Nuke builds, and the Postgame Challenges will evaporate on contact.
It'd be cool if the third installment brought back all of the character's weapons from the two previous games, but as skins. Similar like how FF16 gives you that option to replace the weapon's skin while maintaining that set weapon's original stats.

Slight correction. Reprieve doesnt actually revive you. If it did it would be much better than what it actually does. What reprieve does is, if you take LETHAL damage from an attack. Instead of reducing your HP to 0 you are instead reduced to 1. Most cases this gives you a last minute chance to get away from an enemy and heal up or deal the decisive blow if they are close to stagger or death. Only issue though is, multi hitting attacks like needle rain, or octolash that do massive damage over several hits. In that case you will get hit, go down to 1 being "Saved" by reprieve, only to get hit immediately again and die all the same. If the mechanic did as it was described here in the video it would be more so akin to reraise and you would be able to take as much damage as possible and then the blade would revive you. That would absolutely be the best thing ever because you would be able to live (even if only once) through even the most devastating attacks in the game.
For Cait Sith ypu want to focus on luck as much as possible as alot of his abilities are based on luck. The higher the stat, the better the result of his atb random abilities.
@slickdrick He is correct. FF13 started the more intricate customisation of weapons and this went over to the remake and was improved. Also, FF13 set the foundation of what is clearly a permanent mechanic in the FF series now- the stagger system. So can say what about the game... it was a FF that set new trends.
Gotta say, I DO think the weapon upgrade system from both Remake AND Rebirth are so perfectly done. First off, in both games, they give you the option to customize your characters. Do you focus on high physical damage? High magic damage? Or do you tailor the weapon to address the innate weakness of the character, i.e. giving Barret's weapons a bigger boost to magic to bring his magic stats up? The combinations and strategies are endless, ensuring no two playthroughs are going to be exactly the same. Secondly, and this for me is the big thing: it makes these games WAY less formulaic than, not only the original, but most classic FF games. In those games, once you got an upgraded weapon, the older weapon became useless. FF7 tried to address that minimally (ultimate weapons don't gain AP for materia, while some lower weapons offer 3x AP), but it essentially still was, once you got a new weapon, the old weapon just wastes inventory space. In these games, though, weapons you have in the beginning of the game can still be useful in the later stages of the game. Again, it is all about the play style of the player, and offers a lot of experimentation. Which makes these games so amazing.
I'd like to know if the character guides are still coming. I know the game explains what the character does but I'd like to know the unknown things that the channel highlights
I think at least one weapon for every character also has a built-in buff to ATB charge rate (10% buff) without having to use an ability slot. You have to go to the second page of the characters stats to see this. For cloud it is Sleek Saber and for Aeritj it’s her Gambetein
One thing about Red XIII is that his damage and speed (so upttime) is already significantly buffed while in Vengeance Mode, whih is prolly why he doesn't have a glass cannon weapon. If you manage his vengeance bar well and keep him in that state the damage/pressure he does is insane. He's also probably the best character to use the Elemental materia on because of that.
It seems a lot of folks don't like the design of the Igneous Saber but to me it stands out the most of Cloud's weapons... looks super savage and swore it was made from a monster, until I read it was forged from molten rock. Definitely fits into monster hunter... I think people associate Cloud with more sleek modern looking greatswords... but that's my fav followed by the Slipstream.
Thanks for the video! Outside of cloud, I’m really enjoying playing with Yuffie Tifa and Cait. My least favorite playable characters are Aeith Barret and Red 13.
For the final game they need to do a major questline to get all the pieces of the fusion sword to craft it as Cloud's ultimate weapon. Let it give 2 abilities instead of one and only when equipped allows him to do his special omnislash
Sleek Saber all the way!!!! The platinum for this masterpiece drained me, but it was SOO worth it 😍🙏 thank you, square! Counting the minutes until Part lll
I loved the weapon system a little more in Remake but it still worked in Rebirth, the only thing I kinda wish made it into the game was a Moogle Workshop or Item Transmuter for some kind of Ultima Weapons - there were so many materials to collect I thought it was a littler weird that almost all of the team's best weapons end up being the Cetra based ones you find in the Temple. Would have been nice to add a little reward for players who put in the extra work!
I learn all the abilities and then keep the original weapons equipped afterwards. Buster Sword stays super strong throughout. I did the same with Rebirth.
I am sorry to be late to the party. I just use auto settings and I've never really looked into what's offered by each weapon and the upgrades they can get. I'm in customer 11, but I'm going to look into that when i get on it today.
Pretty much. The books, or manuscripts, yield 10 consistent ap for their designated character upon receiving them. Every time your character increases in level they either gain 5 additional ap or 10 (I only noticed this postgame playing in hard mode, some characters may have increased in level twice after a harder fight). Either way, I hope this answers your question!
I use sleek saber for normal battle umbral blade for boss fight and igneous saber for one on one duel but buster sword will forever be iconic in every situation
I know that it doesn't really fit within this game but I love games that let you make totally custom weapons. They usually end up, with some research and effort, being vastly superior to the existing ultimate weapons. My favorite example was probably dragon age inquisition.
Nice guide, I play with Cloud, Tifa and Yuffie, the latter is my most use for brumal form (easier than parry) and doppledanger, she is fricking good!, then Red XIII and barret… I can’t stand Aerith and Cait slowness, at least barret can generate ATB almost at the same rate as Tifa Nice guide guys!
I am usually a buster sword main but the Slip Stream Saber was too good being able to restore MP to Cloud when he takes damage made it to valuable to not use.
Love the music choices and thanks for the advice. Not sure I'm looking forward to hard mode, but it will be done and I will Platinum rebirth as I did with remake.

You did a really good job describing everything and you did a great job presenting it because you portray it like you know the subject you're talking about very well. That makes it easier to follow. I hope you enjoyed playing the game and making the review!
completely left out the fast that you need to collect weapon compediums to upgrade the weapons level. and you can only reach weapon level 8 on normal and have to get ther rest only on hard mode to get every weapon to level 10. Kind of the most important factor when it comes to weapons.
Man some of these VR builds I’ve seen make me feel like I’m not even playing the same game lol. Like limit loops and double-quadrupile quaga with no atb wait is so broken
This game needs a transmog system that includes the weapons from the previous game. I want to use the mythril saber in rebirth, even if the effects and abilities are not the same.
I wanted to use the Mythril Saber in Remake because I thought it was the coolest looking sword, but I couldn’t cause I didn’t want to sacrifice physical attack for magic.
I usually just stick with what weapon I got most recently, unless I still have skills to learn. Since Cait got so many megaphones before I could master their skills, I had like three new weapins for him unmastered at one point. But yeah, get a new weapon, slap that on, put them in the party, master the skill, then boot them out so Tifa can come back. Rinse, repeat. But now that I have everything, I think I'll just stick to the final weapons unless I really prefer an older design. I kinda love Cloud's Crystal Sword, Tifa's Dragonscale, and Yuffie's Bird of Prey. Oh, and I usually alternate between Cloud and Tifa. Both are the best for my preferred play style of sheer brute force and lots of dodging. I'm not really one for finesse and patience, so Aerith is easily the worst to me. Taking down Sephiroth was a nightmare cause she took forever to become useful and I usually needed to burn her ATB to heal Cloud rather than set-up wards and use magic. I really hope Part 3 doesn't force her to be your sole partner in the final battle again. I don't mind her playing a part, but in a two-person party, she's very restrictive.
As a general rule of thumb, anything with ATB Up on it tends to beat out other options regardless of stats. Action Economy is what wins the day, not marginal increases to ATK or MAG, especially on Spam-heavy characters like Cloud Yuffie or Tifa. I do like that there are niche options available as required, and I especially appreciated that materia slots naturally improve with weapon rank. However I do hope that Part 3 uses a more straightforward system for the weapon skills. I don't like that each weapon has its own predetermined list of what you can equip. I would much rather choose my weapon based on the other factors and then customize it accordingly, much like how materia allows you to customize the characters themselves.
Agreed. I feel like it would have been really helpful if you could "save" certain loadouts for different builds if that's the route you wanted to take for certain, more versatile characters, and then not even being able to consistently or easily view whatever weapon abilities without having to close this, open up that, then switch around---- HUGE pain. Specifically referring to Tifa :]
@@tarutso another solution to his crybaby problem. Wait till game comes out on PC. Download and install mod that changes the look of the sword. Problem solved again. Devs aren't going to rework the entire sword because one loser on TH-cam doesn't like the way it looks 😂

I honestly didnt like how weapons were in this game. Most weapons were just better than the previous weapon and it wasnt as exciting getting them for Cloud, Barret or Tifa because the majority of them just gave them abilities from the last game. This was less prevelent on aerith and yuffie and obviously red and cait only have new moves to get.
Yeah feel like they should have gave you more abilities don’t want to just unlock stuff I already had from the last game hopefully part 3 does that aspect better don’t want to unlock the same stuff 3 times doesn’t make sense
Guy in the video doesnt even have weapons at max level. Weapons like sleek sabre beat igneous, it only has like 2 less attack power but lets you use double atb bonus. Same with tifa, dragon claws overtake pretty much everything because they get access to 6 materia slots, high attack and weapon abilities. Dragon claws gets the 15% weapon ability damage bonus also. Its a clear winner
Don't all weapons at max level have 6 materia slots that are all linked? To me that was the case in remake. The only difference between weapons are stats and abilities and these are more subtle differences. If a weapon at max has less materia slots, it literally cannot compete with ones that have more as materia options are the core mechanic of the game. So unless they stats are way higher than a weapon with more materia it is inherently worse imo.
I find cait sith goofy and whack i dont like his playstyle at all easily the best combination is cloud tifa and aerith you build aerith as magic only tifa as physical only and cloud as a hybrid and you arcane ward spam magic with cloud and aerith and use tifa to haste/ plasma discharge/ unbridled strength/ soothing breeeze/ rancid breathe your way through everything every fight has been easy using this strategy tifa is broken
The problem with Aerith in this game is she’s SO SLOW! 🤦♂️ they have you button mashing the whole time and I hate that when I could be just holding in a button. Yes I understand how tempest works, I just prefer the Remake system, for which I can say that about a lot of stuff, blocking and dodging especially.

Which makes these games so amazing.
just finished nibel area and chose weapons first on # of materia slots then attack power
I'd like to know if the character guides are still coming. I know the game explains what the character does but I'd like to know the unknown things that the channel highlights
I mostly use Sleek Saber it's hits hard, I also liked it's backstory. But hard mode is tough.
Agree on Aerith and Barret, why did they have to make them SOO goddamn slow 😅🫠 other than that, i love 'em all
I love how many options there is. You can make some insane builds
Another excellent guide! Hope to see guides for the other characters soon!
I am sorry to be late to the party. I just use auto settings and I've never really looked into what's offered by each weapon and the upgrades they can get. I'm in customer 11, but I'm going to look into that when i get on it today.
please someone clear somethin up to me, to upgrade my weapon level i need to find the books?
My favorite example was probably dragon age inquisition.
the customization aspect of FF 7 has always been its strongest attribute, both in the original game and especially in remake and rebirth
Nice guide, I play with Cloud, Tifa and Yuffie, the latter is my most use for brumal form (easier than parry) and doppledanger, she is fricking good!, then Red XIII and barret… I can’t stand Aerith and Cait slowness, at least barret can generate ATB almost at the same rate as Tifa
Nice guide guys!
I am usually a buster sword main but the Slip Stream Saber was too good being able to restore MP to Cloud when he takes damage made it to valuable to not use.
How do you get SP in endgame? Tifa is stuck at 5 points short of weapon level 8 and i can’t get it to go up atall
Might be surprising, but I believe Tifa actually has the second highest Magic stat behind Aerith, you must utilize the ATK > MATK though.
My level of weapon mastery: never did figure out how to use fleeting familiar or whatever not so fleeting familiar was supposed to be used with
Love the music choices and thanks for the advice. Not sure I'm looking forward to hard mode, but it will be done and I will Platinum rebirth as I did with remake.
Hard Mode is NOTHING compared to the Brutal & Legendary VR challenges 😅 took me literally a month to get the platinum
Thank you for your review and all the time it took to make it! You did a really good job describing everything and you did a great job presenting it because you portray it like you know the subject you're talking about very well. That makes it easier to follow. I hope you enjoyed playing the game and making the review!
I really want to know how part 3 going to handle Ultima weapons
completely left out the fast that you need to collect weapon compediums to upgrade the weapons level. and you can only reach weapon level 8 on normal and have to get ther rest only on hard mode to get every weapon to level 10. Kind of the most important factor when it comes to weapons.
Man some of these VR builds I’ve seen make me feel like I’m not even playing the same game lol. Like limit loops and double-quadrupile quaga with no atb wait is so broken
True gamers out there, helping little folks like us 😅
So how is this going to work in the 3rd game? Because that’s the one that’ll have the characters’ definitive ultimate weapons.
Anyone have any good builds for hard mode? Specifically the brutal challenges but I’ll take tips
cloud is fire, tifa ice , barret thunder , aerith wind, yuffie time , red counter attack, cait random attack
Thanks for the guide
Shoutout to you for the amazing video; so many critics in the comments so I'm keeping it positive !
Why my weapons have less Materia slots than yours?
Sleek Saber is good for basic gameplay and beginners.
No mention of the red megaphone that gives you a free 200 luck when on a moogle?
Game just came out and folks already giving ultimate guides. Yeeesh
Its been 3 weeks, youtubers are already jumping into the "next greatest game ever"
I want to hit the like button but it's says 777 likes right now 😂
Your thumbnail is backwards.
In all honesty I don't think the naming of the Tifa's ultimate weapon was entirely thought through for a western English speaking audience.
I beat the game with the buster sword
Who else is only using Buster sword 🤚
I usually just run whatever weapon holds the most materia, the MP in this game are a joke though
Ket Shee
Cloud lookin kinda 💅 in the thumbnail
Damn I didn't even realize we could get other weapons with all of the mini games I'm having to play LOL
Am i the only one that doesn't like the last tier of weapons? I dont like the over-designed glowy stuff.
Don't use them problem solved
@@TheRogBGthat’s not the point
@@tarutso it's exactly the point. If you don't like it, don't use it.
@@tarutso another solution to his crybaby problem. Wait till game comes out on PC. Download and install mod that changes the look of the sword. Problem solved again. Devs aren't going to rework the entire sword because one loser on TH-cam doesn't like the way it looks 😂
@@TheRogBG Wow, you took it really personal, did you design the weapons or something? And chill with the insults mate ffs. You need to learn that in life sometimes people dont like what you like. Pretty crazy huh?
I’m usually so overpowered I look for the weakest weapons so the enemies will last long enough for to unleash my synergies and summons. Otherwise I run right through them in like a couple hits. Even the boss battles I have to hold back a bit if I want to see what they have to offer. 😂
I just wish this game featured a true gambit system rather than a very limited one.
GOTY 2024
They really need a weapon transmog in this game. Especially for cloud. Only 3 of his weapons are aesthetically pleasing
This! and let me use Barret's Dragon King costume
Darryl made and darryl watched lol
Cait sith is literally the strongest character in this game hands down, if you know how to play him that is
Well, go on then...
@@dantshort play the game 🤭
I find cait sith goofy and whack i dont like his playstyle at all easily the best combination is cloud tifa and aerith you build aerith as magic only tifa as physical only and cloud as a hybrid and you arcane ward spam magic with cloud and aerith and use tifa to haste/ plasma discharge/ unbridled strength/ soothing breeeze/ rancid breathe your way through everything every fight has been easy using this strategy tifa is broken
I was just spamming his limit breaks 🤣
@@hjk3351 give him to luck Materia and level it all the way up, and he hits like 6k with his abilities, he is at level 46 and can hit really hard
Caith Sith was the biggest mistake⁉️ he blows and sucks
Whoever made ffxvi needs to watch this video and take notes. This is how you create weapons in an rpg. Final hacknslah xvi was straight garbage. Shout out to the remake team for actually making an rpg with actual rpg elements in the game.
🙄
@@GooseGumlizzard that's exactly how I felt when I realized FFXVI wasn't an RPG. Glad you feel the same way.
How they screwed up keeping rune blade blue is beyond me. Really disappointed w this game at alot of points. Story came before gameplay
It's not "the final fantasy 7 remake", it's "final fantasy 7: REMAKE". FF7 has never been remade.
as like in the remake, the buster sword is the best sword by the end game
After everything is maxed out or before ? Felt like it lacked some punch compared to the sleek saber or the slip stream saber and the umbral blade felt like a better option as well imo but I also am on I believe lvl 9 upgrades I need like 300 something for the next weapon upgrade
I liked the weapon system better in remake. In rebirth I felt forced to use one weapon for each character
This game is so boring!
People that play this are so boring! Hi Mike! You're boring!
Cool story, nobody cares cause your irrelevant. 😂
