    what people forget is that when eubank was a child/teenager, he battled alcohol and dug addictions before he started boxing. so it's hardly a surprise to hear him say he wants to set a good example for any potential children watching the show.

      Setting a good example by lying? So kids following his example would turn out to be hypocritical alcoholics. I feel like an honest bad example would do them more good. Just think about how it feels to find out your idol was lying.
      Personally as a child I would have much preferred if adults were honest to me rather than paint a fake sunny picture of the world. Trying to chase something impossible just leads to disappointment and self-hatred.

      alcohol is something that shouldn't be glamorised so I quite like that he chooses not to mention it. Louis likes a few bottles of wine and I think the difference between the two of them is that Chris has probably experienced the true dark side of alcohol whereas louis has a healthy, sensible appetite for it and doesn't have the same fears

    • @jgreenzicle
      @jgreenzicle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No child benefits from hiding your imperfections though. Kids learn from their parents’ mistakes, and they have to realize that adult mistakes can be remedied. I think the problem with Chris’s philosophy is that kids will grow up with the misperception that perfection is possible and that they should be “perfect” like him. Isn’t Chris only reserving truth for the few at the moment? He called someone a cunt off camera and then lied about it for the documentary. That’s ignoring truth for all in favor of truth for the few.

      Johnny Twohats why not? Everyone at the beeb knew and a select few people such as johnny rotten had talked about his vile character and crimes decades before the exposee. If you watched jimmys follow up documentary then the crew had film of jimmy, unaware hes being filmed in his living room, saying vile stuff about young women! Didnt screen it though in the original documentary though. So actually i think once louis had that film and seen it he shouldve grilled him on it af the time! even if for the post-death documentary he produced because it would allow him to answer for his actions and give the public more disclosure on the slippery character we all know existed

    • @francescalbaines
      @francescalbaines 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Questioning someone about having a sneaky bottle of champagne in their hotel room or swearing on TV is totally different to questioning someone about sexual abuse. Besides, Louis did what he could with Saville (who straight up lied to him and made things awkward from the get-go). If Louis had tried to push further with his questioning, Saville would have got angry and pulled the plug on the whole documentary. He probably would have Louis sacked as well.

    • @caribou617
      @caribou617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      George Shackleton I don't think that's particularly fair. There's a world of difference between accusing someone of occasional drinking and swearing and openly confronting Saville with the Paedophile allegations. To be fair to Louis Theroux other than Andrew Neil he came closest to exposing what Saville was in his lifetime.

Goodfellas was in there and another i cant recall but it was on the same level. i dont even know if his mum knew, cared, or was smart enough to to realise the negative impact of such movies on a 3 year old. • @null140
    @null140 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's a good point Eubank makes about hypocrisy here, which is often lost purposefully for the surface-apparent strength of actually fallacious character judgement against certain figures: it's not hypocritcal to say that doing x is bad while proceeding to do x. It's totally possible to know that smoking is bad for the health, and to advise others against it, while nevertheless continuing to smoke, oneself. Knowing something is bad, believing it is bad, advising others not to do that thing x, but nevertheless doing it oneself doesn't make one a hypocrite. What makes for hypocrisy is saying something like 'i would never do x, and doing x makes you a bad *person*', while proceeding to do x. Hypocrisy is levelling moral *judgement* against someone while being guilty of the same thing. It's a fine distinction, but an important one. It's the moral *judgement* conveyed in statements, hiding the same so-called 'vice' that leaves someone guilty of being a hypocrite.

    It's great to see Louis's progression. He's so much better now than what he was here. You can smell the desperation of 'trying to make a great documentary' here.

    I think it's more conflicting goals here. Eubank doesn't want to be a bad role model for children and Louis is looking to make a documentary about Eubank, which includes exposing every side of him, in doing so he'll use common interview techniques. As an interviewer, Louis isn't in the position to make judgments about his subject

      Louis isn’t trying to ‘expose’ him as such. Louis is just saying swearing here and there and drinking a little bit of alcohol isn’t setting to bad of a example for his kids and others, meaning he doesn’t have to lie about to set a good example / keep up a good appearance as it’s part of everyday life and isn’t that bad - when it’s only every now and again

    True. I don’t care what he’s been up to as long as “you must not set a bad example for the children”

    I agree with Eubank, we all have a duty towards the younger generation. And yes Boxingkid89 he is a Boxing LEGEND.
