You’re right, John! The truth is, or at least for me, my wife says I’m always shopping and she’s mostly right. Some of the best finds I have scored have been when I wasn’t really looking for anything at all. Those are the times that I find the great staples or incredible one of a kind pieces that stay in the wardrobe for years.

Awesome video! It is all about the buy. Shopping at the end of season for the following year is another way to stretch the dollar, but you have to wait several months to enjoy the purchase. Great work. Thanks for your efforts.

Hey John, great video. Like you, I never shopped at "Tarjaye" until I went there with my wife and she introduced me to bargin shopping. Since then I've found stuff from their on old brands and now Goodfellow. I found this info about Target on Pinterest...if the price ends 8, it will be marked down again. If it ends in 4, it's the lowest it will be, also men's clothing are marked down on Wednesdays. The Haggar pants looks great I always check the out when I go to the store.

There's nothing wrong with being thrifty. I started buying chinos and polos at Target 20 years ago when I was just out of professional school and on a tight budget. Today, I no longer need to be thrifty, but I still get my chinos and polos from Target. They fit me well and represent tons of value. On a similar note, I bought some of my furniture from IKEA 20 years ago. I thought I would replace them with "quality" furniture when they break down after a few years. 20 years later, I still have most of them and they're still in good shape. Great video John!

Great content as always John. In my time in the USA & Canada, I always found TJ Maxx (called Winners in Canada) to be a great source of quality mid level clothing and shoes at what were to me bargain basement prices. My all-time 'golden nugget' find from Winners was a pair of steel Tom Ford sunglasses, with a case and cleaning cloth, for $100. I still have them seven years later, still get comments on how cool they are. They retailed at $500 + tax in department stores. So I reckon if your fans have a champagne taste in clothing, but are on a beer budget, they'd find TJ Maxx/WInners a really useful place to check out.

Just stumbled across your channel today (was in the suggested section). I have been wearing the Haggar H26's for 2 years or so, and have only replaced them when damaging them at work (worked in rental car management). I currently have 5 pairs (3 slim, 2 standard fit) and wear each one once a week and wash them once a week. These 5 are 6-7 months old and no wear and tear issues on these sets. Also have a pair of Goodfellow jeans for over a year and wear and wash them every week or two and only a little fraying on the heel on the cuff (once broke in, fit pretty well).

Thanks John! I guess I will have to give Target’s Men’s Clothing a better look. I’ve purchased jeans from them just to beat around in but never any dressy or casual clothing. I’m always in Target and will take a serious look. In my fantasy world, there is a men’s clothing store named Christopher’s down the street from me that is high end and I would love to shop there but my budget leans more toward Macy’s weekend sales and Target. I like your statement about getting off of your “high horse.” Well, I’m falling off my high horse to take your suggestions!

Hey John... If you're looking for sales, I would recommend Kohls. They have sales all the time, and they even have clearance racks you can browse. For shoes, I go to The Shoe Department. I bought my first outfit yesterday after subscribing to your channel. At Kohls I bought a pair of Haggar dress jeans and a Croft & Barrow polo shirt. At The Shoe Department I bought a pair of brown wing tips from La Milano. I am very pleased with the items I purchased. May peace be with you and your family always.

Not bad at all for $102 John! In my experience currently all stores and brands want us to consume, gone are the days when items were made with durable fabrics so keep that in mind. If the $102 tab seems too high no problem, just keep in mind the type of items John got and dive in a Thrift store. Do know that it takes more effort as since items at Thrift stores are used one has to examine every piece closely. And you may luck out and find the pieces in just one visit but when it comes to Thrift stores you got to visit them once a week. Thanks for loving what you do John and share it through your channel!

    Those clothes looked really good.
I have built a carefully crafted wardrobe without spending a ton of cash.
I've been lucky enough to work out the brands that I like and also know how they fit me having tried them on and then the fun starts.
I used Pinterest to find the looks that I like (outfit grids are a blessing) and also vlogs such as yours to "open my mind" to the looks that I may not have thought about before.
Then I log onto eBay to hunt down my favourite brands such as Old Penguin / Fred Perry / couple of British Department Stores - I know my measurements well so always contact the seller to check things before I buy them.
I also am quite particular in what I buy - it has to excite me !! Secondly, with enough effort, you will find £70 shirts for £20 or even less. Lots of people buy stuff online, wear it once and then realise it doesn't fit them. They are my primary source so I get a worn once or twice item at a fraction of the original purchase price.
I appreciate lots of people aren't prepared to buy used clothes but with my limited budget that decision was taken away from me.
The result being is that I have a far more expensive looking wardrobe than I ever expected.
My final tip would be to stay patient. You can't do this overnight and you have to be selective but great stuff appears and you can build yourself a fabulous wardrobe of quality, well fitted clothes at a fraction of the price !

I am a large guy at six foot four weighing in at 250 lbs. I can't always shop at Target because they often don't carry my size in pants. I have found an affordable big and tall in my area that I frequent. However, you have to be a bit picky at these discount stores when it comes to quality and classic styling. Furthermore, don't be so quick to turn up your nose at thrift stores. The trick is to go often and know you may not find something each time. Additionally, you many not be able to find the specific thing you were hoping to get, however, you need to look at everything because you may find some other things you like at a very good price.
I have two thrift shops in my metro located in or near upper middle class neighborhoods. On two recent trips I was able to find the following: Trip one - Ralph Lauren dress shirt in excellent condition for $12.00. Brand new this shirt would likely have sold for $130 on the low side. Trip two - I found two dress shirts for $9.99 each that ended up being 50% off. The first one was Banana Republic and it had never been worn or laundered. The second was Columbia.
I always get complements on how I look. Nobody needs to know where I bought these items or how much I spent. All that matters is that I look good.

Thanks for the video. A couple of thoughts.
There are a number of reasons to look for more budget friendly solutions like Target, or Kohls.
    1. Necessity. There was a time when a man would shop at mid tier department stores for a lot of his clothes. In my area, Boston Store fit that niche. Boston Store closed last year. So if you need a retail option, you have a choice of either internet, big box, or boutique type places. All of them have their place, but for the regular retail experience, Target and Kohls seem to have filled the void left by the departure of mid tier department stores.
For example, going into the summer, I was looking to fill a gap in my wardrobe as I needed some light weight shirts that could bridge the gap between business casual and business. I went to Kohls and bought some Croft and Barrow Easy Care shirts on sale for $14 a piece, and I bought 3 of them. While I was there, I bought 2 pair of Haggar dress pants that you mentioned in your review. Very comfortable for summer and the comfort waist band felt great in the summer heat. While I was there I bought two Ralph Lauren Chaps sport coats on sale for $55 a piece!
Heck, I even got a compliment the first day I wore one of these outfits. Will these outfits hold up? I see no reason why I can't get at least a year out of the pants, and 2 or 3 years out of the shirts, As for the sport coats, I wore them all summer and will continue to wear them into the fall. If they fell apart by the end of the year, I would have gotten my money out of them.
    2. As for the other options, big box stores like Costco occasionally have some good clothing options, like, for example, said Haggar pants, but in general, they are better places to get things like socks and underwear.
    3. The internet is a viable option if you know exactly what you want. But some of us just hate returning items that don't fit.
    4. Boutiques. I recently went to one of these places and I see the value of a boutique type store. That said, the prices are insanely high. I wonder sometimes who can afford their regular price. I am talking about $200 shirts, and $175 ties. And $150 denim jeans. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate quality and durability, but I suspect a lot of the high prices at these boutiques is just markup.
Not to mention the fit of a lot of their off the rack products seemed to be a slim fit, Now, don't get me wrong. I know I need to lose weight, and I actually am losing weight. But frankly, how is it that the size 48 sport jacket they sell at Kohls fits me perfectly, while the Italian made size 50 sport coat sold at the boutique feels 2 sizes too small?
The message these places are sending selling only sleek, European cut clothes is, bigger guys need not bother. But the fact is, it is actually more important for an overweight guy to look put together, rather than just cover himself up with a giant sweatshirt.

I recently bought a couple of Goodfellow shirts (never bought clothes from Target before) and had a tailor hem the length ($30, I thought it was expensive, but that's about the going rate locally in NC). I think I need to learn to hem! Not a bad shirt. Can't give input to durability, but for the price you probably can't go wrong. Thanks for the video.

Another great video. I can't say enough about thrift shopping. After my weight loss surgery, I was loosing weight so rapidly I couldn't afford to keep shopping at Macy's and Nordstorms. I went back to thrift shopping like I used to do in my broke days. I have found Hugo Boss, Brooks Brothers, Jos. A. Banks, Ferragamo, and other high quality brand names all at my local thrifts and Goodwill stores. I have even found custom tailored suits. Patience! Thrift shopping takes patience as it is hit or miss! Sometimes you hit the jackpot and at other times, it is a bust!

Every guy should know how to bargain shop...may take a little more time and going to multiple stores but totally worth it to save $$$...Hit the stores during the week to avoid crowds and crowded dressing rooms.

Great video! The problem I have with Target is that the Goodfellow chinos start at a 30 inseam and I'm a 29 ( I'm 5'7" and I dont want my pant cuffs dragging on the ground). So I swap Target for Walmart. Haggar sells very nice Chinos and Khakis for about $19 and the George clothing line makes very nice quality shirts for about the same price (or even less on sale) than the Goodfellow line. Nothing wrong with quality and budget clothes.

I have also bought Chinos from Target with no issues. The fit is great and the price is awesome.
Was curious if you have ever tried the box clubs such as Stitch Fix?
If so, thoughts? Or maybe even a video.

Good point about getting past attitudes about shopping certain stores. I took your advice on the Goodfellow chinos from an earlier video and love them. Great fit and pretty good quality, especially for $23. I'm also in Issaquah and wondering if you have found a good tailor?

Durability and quality are always my concerns, as well as ethical sourcing of clothes (and treatment of employees) when I shop at a store like Target. Of course, we don't *have* Target here in Canada, so I can't shop there, but when I'm at the equivalent I do worry about these things as well. Right now I buy a lot from Land's End when they have 40 or 50% off sales, which costs more than your Target run, but I've been very happy with the quality from LE.

John. I noticed at the end that you don't finish off the look with a belt. Some people (including fashion houses) state that you should always wear a belt to break up the outfit. I would be interested to know what your thoughts are on this. Thanks for a great video. look forward to seeing more.

Sorry guys for sharing a little late. Dillards have wonderful sales on name brand items. Make your you shop the clearance. I only buy from the clearance rack, especially when it's 60% off and then take an additional 50 to 40% off.

John, you and your channel are fukkin’ awesome! (I’m saying this not needing a backpack or wanting to be in the giveaway, just being sincere) I’m a 65 year old gent who thoroughly enjoys your warmth, positive outlook, and content. Although I’m on a buying hiatus, I did pick up the beard trimmer you recommended a number of weeks ago, and I couldn’t be happier. I look forward to more vids. Mike, aka, Siegfried.

Don’t pass over thrift stores. They have some great finds, especially for jeans, chinos, polos, and even shoe brands like Allen Edmonds, Sperry Top-sides, etc. There will be visits where you find nothing, but stop by pretty often and you’ll score some great finds and save some serious money.
