    Very nice! The blueness observed in these lakes has to do with water clarity and low nutrients typical in oligotrophic (shield) lakes. These lakes are low in nutrients and dissolved solids so the colour blue in the light spectrum is not absorbed in the water but is dissipated throughout the water column. Acid rain from smelting and industrial SO2 emissions has killed off nutrients and clarified lakes as well. Killarney area is best example of this but I believe the fish are slowly coming back.

    • @benbeauchamp16
      @benbeauchamp16  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow thanks for the info! I need more people like you in my comments. Awesome.

    • @AnglingUpNorth
      @AnglingUpNorth ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! Clay is great at absorbing acid rain and neutralizing it, the problem with the Killarney area lakes is they are mostly rock and lack lime stone or clay which help mitigate the negative effects of acid rain, hence why it caused several dead lakes. The MNR has been working to balance the PH in the lakes by adding lime so hopefully they can regain their biodiversity!

    • @marksmith9295
      @marksmith9295 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem Ben and thanks for another great video. I have since seen Evan's video where he explains about impacts of uranium mining causing the blueness as told by the locals. In this case I would suspect the lake you went to was acidified by upstream acid mine drainage from wasterock piles and/or tailings from previous uranium mining and milling.

    Awesome video, especially the drone footage! How did you feel like the Prospecteur 15 and Pocket Canyon compared for this trip? I've been debating which one to buy.

    • @benbeauchamp16
      @benbeauchamp16  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I love both boats for different scenarios. The Prospecteur 15 is super versatile and a classic canoe for tripping. I use it primarily for solo trips but it does have two seats so it can but used tandem but I would go with a 16’ or even 17’ if you’re always going to have 2 people. The pocket canyon is more suited for river paddling and white water specifically, but it can also be used for longer backcountry trips. I’m sending @evan_le5 your way he’s the real expert

    Young man, I wish you the best for your clean and sober future. But, may I suggest you not yell out Jesus Name in a foul swearing usage. To many people Jesus is the Son of God and the one Who paid for their sins (yours too, btw). That took your sweet presence and sent it right down the loo.

    • @benbeauchamp16
      @benbeauchamp16  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always try to censor foul language for the kids that watch my videos. If I yelled something I promise it wasn’t in a negative way, probably just got excited reeling in a big fish. I’m all love for the outdoors, all positivity, nothing against religion man.
