5 Days Solo Camping & Fishing in Canadian Wilderness
After an epic failure on a solo camping brook trout fishing mission into an unknown canoe route, I had to come up with a plan B. After some quick thinking I realized I was only a couple hours away from a piece of paradise that I hold near and dear to my heart: Diablo Lake. I revisited the first part of the Steel River canoe route and once again had to conquer the notorious Diablo’s Portage. But it was totally worth it.
I got a little taste of everything on this trip from wildlife encounters to heavy rain, beautiful sunsets, delicious camp meals and the exact type of fishing I was looking for.

7-Day Wilderness Camping Adventure: Untamed River to Rugged Coast of Lake Superior
มุมมอง 8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Back in early May, I set out on my most challenging and most rewarding wilderness canoe trip to date. @toshselfpropelled and I took on the lesser-known Jimmy Kash River which flows into The Dog River just above the famous Denison Falls eventually dumping out into Lake Superior. We camped our way through the woods facing anything and everything that old Jimmy Kash threw at us. Tosh’s video: th...

The Jimmy Kash River is a seldom explored river with very little documentation. @toshselfpropelled and I were enticed by the potential of untouched beauty in this remote area and had to see it for ourselves. We faced incredible challenges and seemingly endless obstructions in the river including half a dozen waterfalls but we agreed it was well worth it. I continue to be amazed at just how far ...

4 Days Winter Camping in a Wood Burning Hot Tent
มุมมอง 14K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
My brother Tyler and I headed out to a backcountry lake in the Temagami area for some winter camping, icefishing, delicious meals and good laughs. We faced some freezing temperatures at times reaching as cold as -28 celsius with wind chill but we stayed nice and warm thanks to the wood burning stove. Big shoutout to TripShed for the high quality winter camping gear and friendly service. If you’...

Extremely honoured to have been asked to speak at the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto this year. Huge thank you to everyone that made it out I can't tell you how nice it was to meet so many amazing people in person. In this presentation I talked about my experiences while paddling my canoe and solo camping for 11 days on the Steel River. I touched on the route itself, the scenery, the wildlif...
Winter Solo Camp - Ice Fishing Catch & Cook

Couldn’t have asked for better weather in this 3-day solo camping trip. Every time I go winter camping I am reminded of the difficulty that comes with it, however it was super worth the reward of being in a beautiful nature setting and even enjoying a brook trout appetizer. 3 Days Solo Camping No Tent in Winter

Decided to challenge myself and ditch the tent for this solo camping trip. What started as quite mild and somewhat rainy weather turned into some extreme cold and beautiful snowfall. I found a quiet little lake to set up camp and really enjoyed the solitude. My backyard (Temagami, Ontario) truly majestic place
Wow to see a wolf. I sense the good spirits are with you. That Walley diver works very well for me as well. Also try the suspended husky jerq bye repela. Gold shhhhh.
So beautiful. Is there a map somewhere of your trip?
Awesome journey, thanks so much for capturing it on video so we could enjoy it too! The wolf! The Calf! THE WALLEYE! Loved it!
Loved watching the trip, perfect combo of running rapids and catching fish
great video. support brother❤❤❤❤
Just loving seeing bits of Canada
Thanks for another peaceful, beautiful, kind, camping trip. I really enjoy following you. Also Tosh. I’m 75 and disabled. I love the beauty of North America all my life. Your vid’s are great!! Greg / CT USA
How does he land the fish he catches so easily? He doesn't even use a net. Just reaches in the water an pull them out.
Beautiful! 🌲
The Heart of the northern forest! 💙
Stunning! What an amazing gift to see. 💙
Bruh!! You need to work on your SEO right quick! I couldn't find you for a solid 10 mins of searching, should be 5 secs yo- You dont fall under, canoe, canada, fishing, camping. Search Engine Optimization. Thought I lost you for a min bruh! Panicked! I'm okay now, back in your loving arms and adventures.
We met at OAS, and I just found out that I was UNSUBSRIBED!!! WTF? Just reesubbed.
Perfect man.
Hi Ben! Another great video. I was wondering if you could talk a bit about how you deal with loneliness when out on your extended trips? I'm a fairly experienced weekend backpacker and have done plenty of 1-3 night treks on my own, but I have my first real thru-hike coming up where I'll likely see very few people for up to two weeks! I'll be downloading plenty of audiobooks/music to keep me entertained, but just wanted to know if you had any tips for staying sane when it's just you and the woods.
Sir, your video was actually more entertaining and watchable than most other "survival" vids because you don't c😢ome off a douche, trying to convince us what a badass expert you are. You're also a more likeable person compared to the bearded wonders with tattooed fingers, faces, arms etc. Again, you are humble and somewhat relatable, even to a salty old, former military instructor like me. I am grateful for your efforts to share your journey. As I watched, I was cheering you on and wanted so badly for you to produce a tarp, or a Mylar or plastic sheet of some kind to form the first layer of your roof, then the poles and pine boughs atop that. Your rock shield was absolutely beautiful and well employed. Brilliant! Keep it up. Thank you for not being a wannabe Tacticool, Killer Commando dickhead. TH-cam has plenty already. We're all good. I'll be looking for more of your work.
Thanks so much. This means a lot to me
This looks so nice! Going on my first canoe camping and fishing trip tomarrow here in Sweden 🇸🇪 hope i dont find alot of fallen trees on the narrow stream im going up through two lakes 🥲 looks so narrow on google earth i just hope i can fit the canoe 🛶
Right on! Have fun and be safe
Tuyệt vời cảm ơn video của bạn
👍👍
That was flipping awesome. Thankyou young Sir.
Thanks a lot!
Advise… pre bake your potato’s. They will cook up quicker and be more tasty.
Gonna have to try this!
Well deserved fish. Anyone willing to do that much work and suffering deserves nice fish.
Hahaha thanks a lot
what a beautiful place, thank you
Loving all your videos. Thank you for sharing your authenticity passion and taking us all along with you!
❤️❤️❤️
Subbed the second you lit that fire with a lighter. Serious terrain, and great attitude about the conditions. Thanks for having us along!
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching
Great job brother! Im working up the courage still for my first solo camp! Big props to ya! Stay safe
It’s not for everyone, but if you’re thinking about it I say try it out and see how you feel. Start small - you don’t need to go to a super remote place. It’s a totally different type of experience when you’re alone, true solitude is hard to come by these days and you’ve got a way better chance of coming across some amazing wildlife. If you decide to go out let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching :)
Nice save you sure worked for that one!
Thanks a lot!
Good job! TY!
Good Lad. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
I think you are right. You probably are the only person to portage up and back down Diablo! That ending slideshow with the music lined up perfectly
Hahaha thanks fellas!
We camped on that island in scouts back in 2008! Still the most beautiful place on earth!
"...I've got a bit of a problem on my hands. This canoe route doesn't exist." Love it!
Hahaha sometimes those are the best trips
Ben, what a great trip. The moose were awesome early on and those trout were spectacular! I'm envious of that fishing. Cheers from Alabama!
Thanks a lot! Cheers :)
well done, solo camping is the best. I am 77 ,have solo camped all my life and still do. Enjoy
This makes me so happy, don’t stop!
what beautiful country
great effort dragging over all those log jams. I think the baby moose was only a few hours old, mum was probably resting. What a special encounter
Thanks a lot, a biologist family friend said the same thing - you’re absolutely right
Another fun video to watch. Nicely done!
Thanks a lot!!
Nice trip ! doesn'tmatter if dont end up doing what you were supposed to do! the adventure was awesome !! do you also speak french or it's just your last name lol !
Thanks a lot, and I always kick myself, I used to be fluent in French but now barely speak it at all
Such a lovely bit of camping, Ben! Even though your initial trip was found to be impassable, the pivot to Diablo Lake was a great call. We wonder how the reverse portage was down the steep incline/decline of the Diablo port was...downhill hiking is no easier than uphill, just different muscles working super hard. Another beautiful video, friend <3
❤️❤️
Deleting comments that are not malicious, or hurtful in any way is a recipe for failure. The market you are attempting to further saturate is captained by those that aren't afraid to recognize their shortcomings and actually make strides to improve their approach. Get a net. Stop dangling fish. Pinch your barbs when you are practicing catch and release. Stop deleting comments that aren't full of hearts and praise.
Easy there PETA
Deleting comments makes no difference, remember what a dink Joe was and how successful he was? 😂
You’re not wrong.
Hey man I’ve never deleted any comments whatsoever, matter of fact I posted this video and then took off on another big trip with no internet access. Not sure what you’re referring to. Every fish that I didn’t eat was released safely back into the wild
TH-cam deletes comments automatically, usually for no reason.
Hello, Sir. This is Connie. I want to send you some items about camping, could you share your email for further discussion?
I was worried we wouldn't see any chilly on this trip, i should know better its your favorite. Nice photos at the end it really ties the whole adventure together. Keep on paddling!
Hahahah this is hilarious, I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite but a long time ago I dehydrated an absolutely truck load of it and I want my money’s worth lol
Good job staying flexible and figuring out another trip! Sometimes it’s hard to make those call instead of trying to do the impossible or giving up entirely. Your perseverance and positivity are truly inspiring. When you brought that first trout up into the boat my 8 year old daughter said “nice brookie!” Thought you should know! 😂
Hahaha that’s unreal… “nice brookie” sounds to me like somebody who’s being raised the right way. Thanks friends!
Cutting firewood towards your leg is not advisable unless you like helicopters!
This is very good advice haha. That was more an illusion of a camera angle, my mom watches these videos… I know better than that lmao
Perfect conditions for tarp camping. Looked like an absolute joy!
Such a blast, thanks for watching
Excellent 👏🏼
Spectacular
