Its doubly layered with the fact that Vox Machina, until much later, weren't big damn heroes. They were closer to the amorality & selfishness of the Mighty Nein a lot of the time.
To be fair, at this point in the campaign, they were all mostly neutral characters. Even Pike, who started out as chaotic good, was chaotic neutral at this point in the story. The only three in the show who could be considered 'good' are Vex, Vax, and Keyleth, all of whom actually do react or start to move to stop Percy when they realize what he's about to do. So I wouldn't say they just stood there. In the campaign they were basically stunned and didn't know what to do, it took them by complete surprise. In the show they were held back by the vines Keyleth summoned, were stunned by what he did, and halted by Uriel's appearance and him ordering them to stop.

@@iananderson4754 Yeah he did. It got to the point that Marisha and Sam and Taliesin had to watch Orion’s dice roles to make sure he wasn’t fudging them, and Matt had to get increasingly specific about what spells could do + the ring and sorcerer points. He also had a really bad habit of metagaming information his character would not know (like, not being in the actual location/wasn’t something the party would know Via Earrings), and had major Main Character Syndrome when another party member was getting a character rp moment or got a “how do you want to do this” during a major/boss fight. (During those moments the party’s engaged in another player’s moment…except Orion. Sometimes Orion was engaged on a better day, but increasingly he wasn’t or outright glowered.) Kinda takes all the fun out of both Tiberius as a character + made the episodes Orion acted out like that as a player pretty unenjoyable to watch. Then ofc how he behaved outside of DnD-stealing money from a charity drive, tearing into a fan for a Tiberius shirt they made for themselves as fanart as “intellectual property” (it’s only when merch is sold there’s a grey area legally, not made for selfusage/not for profit), and abused his girlfriends. I do hope he’s getting therapy for his behavior, drug addiction, and coping with his health…but CR made the right call booting him from the show (and since they were all friends before CR became a podcast, cutting ties with him). You can only tolerate so much for so long, and by this point Orion had become a liability even if his relationship with the rest of the cast hadn’t become strained. But the main reason why Tiberius isn’t part of TLoVM is because at some point Orion went ahead and copyrighted the character
What made this for me, is how into it taliesin is. I know they are voice actors, but you can see he is not just acting, this is his character going through an ordeal and Taliesin is there for it. I absolutely love when players get this into their character. It is what made taliesin my favourite cast member in season 1. Later on, everybody gets experience enough, and they all include enough backstory for matt to create amazing antagonists, but here, taliesin is showing to the rest how to be a good player and a good dm.
I will admit the animated show is a bit too fast paced for my liking (though I’m sure it couldn’t be helped) but as usual Percy will always be my favorite character
I just caught up on the animated show and yeah I got that vibe. Watching felt like I should just *know* things about the characters and whatnot. I knew nothing of CR before watching the show but I'm excited because I like the characters.
I love the animated series, but I was honestly disappointed in the first Briarwood fight. Vex's opening attack on Delilah was honestly incredible and Percy's 'Sylas!' was honestly more impactful in the game. Plus, his interaction with Desmond was much so better. I get they had to cut about half an hour down to 5 minutes, but a couple of these moments probably should have been included.
Percy had the mask and it was kind of like an early attempt at a gas mask, he usually used it to block out foul odors and some potentially harmful vapors. For flavor, Taliesin made it look like an old school plague doctors mask and it ended up that his shadow demon had a similar face.
In critical role, he shot 3 of his fingers off. In vox machina, the entire palm of his hand was blown off with all fingers. That's a nice change they made not gonna lie.
Some other editing bits aside I'm really curious why they swapped Sylas and Deliah for the 'pup' line...idky but it intrigues me i struggle to rewatch the c1 eps before 29 unfortunately...so i could only get so far before i skipped the clip. sucks when you were there from the start and watched a guy devolve who you thought was pretty cool like the rest. really missing the kraghammer quest, thought that had a lot of solid hits...unfortunate.
I was just thinking I'm so glad they gave her that line. Grey does condescension and disdain so well. This is perfect casting. Hell, even the name is perfect: Grey DeLisle (her maiden name, "de-lie-el") playing Delilah. And with how they've fleshed out those two characters, this line sounds more like something Delilah would say.
Just a guess, but possibly to subtly telegraph that Delilah is at least as significant a character as Sylas, going forward? Which is likely something that developed over time in the campaign(s).
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll she's always been the more important one imo. she was the villain who kept escaping them and coming back to be terrible. i love the briarwoods so much 😩
Actually, yeah, why did they cut out the dragon born Tiberius? I know he left the live show, but it’s weird him not being there at all. It’s like he never existed.
Because they separated on bad terms as well due to his drug use and everything getting too much. It's one of those things the CR crew has asked critters not to talk about
Percy was always my second favourite character after Gronk, but after watching the animated series? Not a chance, Percy head and tails above everyone else and it’s not even close, I’d rank him up with some of my favourite animated characters ever at this rate
Left at the very beginning of it. He was there for the dinner and initial Briarwood battle (as opposed to Pike who was back in Vassalheim at the time) and made it to the mountains outside of Whitestone when Orion took those couple episodes off, being officially let go from the show in the early stages of the party exploring Whitestone. Tibs made it to the mountains before fucking off to go handle something and when the party returned following the Whitestone adventure he was in his room in their keep packing up as he was leaving to return to Draconia.
@@leonielson7138 No mercy percy was born because he Critted exactly when it counted during boss fights. It was insane. I'm just saying that the show took a different approach. They made him seem more possessed by that being rather than just being an awful person.
I haven't watched a lot of campaign one, but from what I can gather, When Percy lets teh influence of orthax take hold he puts on the mask. I think its to signify he is acting as that spirits agent or something.
Spoiler alert Orthax the shadow demon possessed Percy in his backstory. He gave Percy a dream that showed him how to make guns and helped him get revenge on the briarwoods and their allies who helped kill his family. Orthax pushed him more and more to seek revenge, because he could steal the souls of those killed in vengeance. The mask and smoke are signs of Percy being influenced by the demon. I won't spoil much more because Percy's vengeance is honestly one of the best character arcs of all three campaigns.
I notice that in the campaign Percy had time to process and be more cold and calculate, because he knew the Briarwoods were going to show up, in the catoon they show up without his knowledge, that's what makes him more upset
Actually Talesin said he had no idea in the campaign wrap up he said he left it up to Matt if Percy's backstory was real or just dreams twisted by trauma. So when Briarwood was announced he was stunned silent for a bit
@@bman296 I think Elena meant the dinner party. Percy 100% knew they'd be there, Percy had left word before leaving for Vassalheim to be informed if any information on the Briarwoods came through while they were gone and upon returning to Emon he was informed that they had been invited to the dinner. Pulling some strings as Council Members themselves, Vox Machina got themselves included in the dinner. They were working with Seeker Assum to plan a trap for the Briarwoods and investigate them...but totally fucked it up by not actually working with Assum at all during the party and letting Vax poke around in their belongings while Percy was disguised as Vax. Vox Machina in the game went in to the dinner with a poorly planned and terribly executed ambush while in the show they got blindsided by Percy's backstory showing up to eat.

In the campaign its not unusual for them to torture people for information.
@@Sesquedoodle That's true too. I think most of us remember Vox Machina as far less evil as they really tended to be. You saw it come up a lot during the Mighty Nein later, but VM could be just as bad.
To be completely fair, given the answers the servant gives Percy in the game, he probably was an eyewitness of the murders or at least was considered loyal enough to know what happened and not betray the couple. But you are correct, this is definitely not a heroic action.
3:08 i love how everyone snaps to attention like "oh shit"
This was a flawless character building moment.
God I wanna cosplay Percival so bad. But only being 5' 7", it just wouldn't look right
Of course it would! Never let something like that stop you cosplaying a character you love!
@@OurAdventuringParty well, it wouldn't look how I would WANT it to look.
HOWEVER, I got a buddy that's like 6'3" so I could just make it up for him and takes credit for bringing the costume together 😂
@@OurAdventuringParty I have been thinking on replicating his pepperbox but with actual metal casting. Gotta figure out how to get the barrel to rotate.
That really doesn’t matter, do it!
Pike might be a better option.
It's weird seeing Orion back at the table. Like a ghost from the past. Hope he's doing well
yeah. i liked his character, and acknowledged his flaws, hoping to see growth. but i understand him having to leave for the sake of his mental health. sometimes you cant cope with the stress and it makes things worse, you lash out, ect. i hope he moved on ok.
@@Rin-qj7zt from what ive heard it seemed like he was doing better, getting help etc. But he lashed out at a fan very rudely for some reason and I haven't heard anything since
@@GrimViridian didnt he cheat at rolling too?
@@iananderson4754
Yeah he did. Sometimes Orion was engaged on a better day, but increasingly he wasn’t or outright glowered.)
Kinda takes all the fun out of both Tiberius as a character + made the episodes Orion acted out like that as a player pretty unenjoyable to watch.
Who is Tiberius and Lilith? Are we going to see them in the future? I’m just a show watcher so I don’t recognize them.
Percy is one B A M F !!!
I think the correct term you’re looking for is S A M F. Scary Ass Mother ****er.
He’s both
YOUR SOUL IS FORFEIT
And our first look at Kraven Edge. 😩😩😩
Sad part is that he probably was being forced to drive them. He most likely just came out of it because they got to far away.
He gets out pretty well in the campaign. Goes through some scary shit, but eventually he gets paid well and welcomed back to Whitestone
Takesin’s bellow of “SILAS!” was so raw.
I will admit the animated show is a bit too fast paced for my liking (though I’m sure it couldn’t be helped) but as usual Percy will always be my favorite character
yes it feels like slower animated recap, with parts stiched together
I just caught up on the animated show and yeah I got that vibe. Watching felt like I should just *know* things about the characters and whatnot. I knew nothing of CR before watching the show but I'm excited because I like the characters.
That reload animation, damn
DOLOLO
Merciless
I love the animated series, but I was honestly disappointed in the first Briarwood fight. Vex's opening attack on Delilah was honestly incredible and Percy's 'Sylas!' was honestly more impactful in the game. Plus, his interaction with Desmond was much so better.
I get they had to cut about half an hour down to 5 minutes, but a couple of these moments probably should have been included.
Will never not be salty about the show not doing Delilah falling on her ass after jumping out the window
God poor little Desmond, I hope they get back to this character in the animated show. Percy should be made to feel bad about what he did to this kid.
How did Marisha manage to look so majestic throughout the entirety of this. She almost out-classed Matt.
I’m very much a new critter (started on campaign 2 and now watching 3) and now I’m even more confused about the mask.
It actually features a little bit later in the original campaign but the reason for it is kinda spoilers.
@@williamwall3403 thank you :)
Percy had the mask and it was kind of like an early attempt at a gas mask, he usually used it to block out foul odors and some potentially harmful vapors. For flavor, Taliesin made it look like an old school plague doctors mask and it ended up that his shadow demon had a similar face.
Same, but I'm starting from ep 1.
Ah... you'll find out, it's totally worth the wait!
2:36 why didn't they put this part in the show?!?!?!?!?!?
I don't think I've ever seen anyone fueled by rengence and hate so much ever. Not a person not a character. Percy takes the cake.
I mean...Punisher, Kratos, and Doom Slayer are all up there.
@@VegetaLF7those guys kinda feel unrealistic in a way. Netflix Punisher, too.
Percy feels exactly like a real person.
Thank you for making this video.
I just finished watching the series and now I’m watching all of these clips on TH-cam of the campaign.
In critical role, he shot 3 of his fingers off.
In vox machina, the entire palm of his hand was blown off with all fingers.
That's a nice change they made not gonna lie.
3:17 "SIKE, THAT'S THE WRONG NUMBER"
Percy is batman's origin mixed with the punisher's origin
not having seen critical roll my response to no mercy percy was the same as Vax
I honestly need to watch the original one more than ever
Does Percy not have the Bad News yet in the show
He does now
Yeah he pulls it out briefly in the newest episodes. Hasn't used it yet
Honestly, I'm pretty excited for diplomacy. 😊
No he assembles it while in house-arrest at the keep in the show I'm pretty sure.
There's a scene in episode 4 where he pulls out the blueprint for Bad News. I think he builds it before going to Whitestone.
That reload animation got me hot and bothered bro that shit was amazing
“SILAS!!” percy said calmly
I like how everyone try to stop Percy but don't move an inch. Also, feel bad for the servant, he lost a hand for serving assholes.
There's a "You got a sword" line in the campaign as well.
Cut to the end of that ark... Grog has got a sword
One of these days, we will arrive at the golden god moment, and when it is animated, it will be glorious!
Assuming we get more seasons announced like how season 3 was a few months back, that moment would happen in what I imagine to be season 4.
I can tell you already, Percival the Unmerciful is my favorite!
I’m sad they weren’t able to get Orion Acaba to play Tiberius while he was still apart of the group
good old times
Is this one of those ancestors were Supernatural circumstances or situations happen and the game master takes over a person's player character
Some other editing bits aside I'm really curious why they swapped Sylas and Deliah for the 'pup' line...idky but it intrigues me
i struggle to rewatch the c1 eps before 29 unfortunately...so i could only get so far before i skipped the clip. sucks when you were there from the start and watched a guy devolve who you thought was pretty cool like the rest. really missing the kraghammer quest, thought that had a lot of solid hits...unfortunate.
And I'm sad we won't see Grog headbutt a giant into submission just for drinking all the ale.
Just a guess, but possibly to subtly telegraph that Delilah is at least as significant a character as Sylas, going forward? Which is likely something that developed over time in the campaign(s).
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll she's always been the more important one imo. she was the villain who kept escaping them and coming back to be terrible. i love the briarwoods so much 😩
@@OceanStateMadness She kept bringing Sylas back too, of course. Worst part? Knowing that bitch *still* isn't dead as of C3.
I love how Marisha is fanning herself.
Seeing the old set up they use to have is nostalgic.
Kinda wished there was a 1 for 1 concerning things but hey either way it was pretty damn good.
This is why you never mess with Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III
Tallisan Jaffey is cut from the same cloth as James Spader
Actually, yeah, why did they cut out the dragon born Tiberius? I know he left the live show, but it’s weird him not being there at all. It’s like he never existed.
They don't have the rights to the character and he would have been gone by episode 5 so it was easier to just leave him out entirely.
@@jeffwithheldforsafety8359 ah thanks
Because they separated on bad terms as well due to his drug use and everything getting too much. It's one of those things the CR crew has asked critters not to talk about
Percy was always my second favourite character after Gronk, but after watching the animated series? Not a chance, Percy head and tails above everyone else and it’s not even close, I’d rank him up with some of my favourite animated characters ever at this rate
I prefer the calm that Taliesin had originally. Its much more chilling than him raging.
No Mercival Percival
It feels so weird seeing Orion
Percy was always my favorite
I totally forgot Tiberius was in a bit of this arc.
If possible you should crop the screen for the stream part
Honestly its almost a one on one transition.
Can't say the blade hungers. That would walk a thin line with a different undead monarch.
i'm really sad they wrote tiberius out...
i know why.. but i am sad
Why? I'm a late CR fan (mid campaign 2) and I see this guy and no one really talks about him, it's kinda weird
nvm, I just googled it, kinda sad what happened
Percy deserved his revenge
Not all the comments saying "NO MERCY PERCY" and "UNMERCIFUL PERCIVAL" 😂😂😂
Disappointed he didn't name every member of his family in the show. That was tense.
You know, now that I think about it, why the hell didnt orthax pop out when Percy first saw the briarwoods?
Possibility waiting for a better opportunity.
The og was No mercy Percy.
The Animated one was possessed percy.
Its different and it was done quite well.
But I like the original better
I think the origin of No Mercy Percy was in the Underdark Arc, when he head-shot Clarota the Mindflayer with Bad News.
@@leonielson7138 No mercy percy was born because he Critted exactly when it counted during boss fights.
It was insane.
I'm just saying that the show took a different approach. They made him seem more possessed by that being rather than just being an awful person.
I prefer the legends version a bit more.
I wondered what the show came from sadly I cannot get into this but the show is great
I totally forgot OA was there for the briarwood ark
Only like, the first 2 episodes though
What's the significance of the mask he put on?
I haven't watched a lot of campaign one, but from what I can gather, When Percy lets teh influence of orthax take hold he puts on the mask. I think its to signify he is acting as that spirits agent or something.
Spoiler alert
Orthax the shadow demon possessed Percy in his backstory.
@@Metrion77 Cool.
I want season two!!!
Just a couple of more weeks! We're almost there!
Percy is such a badass.
Lol I love how they just took out the dragonborn
Orion copyrighted the character after he was kicked from the show for repeated bad behavior. Even if they wanted to include Tiberius, they can’t
