  • In a recent interview, I had the privilege of speaking with Chef Joseph Yoon, the visionary behind Brooklyn Bugs and a world-renowned advocate for "entomophagy," the practice of eating insects. As an Edible Insect Ambassador, Chef Yoon has dedicated himself to promoting the benefits of edible insects as a sustainable and nutritious solution to global food security challenges. Through Brooklyn Bugs, he has been at the forefront of changing perceptions around entomophagy, demonstrating that insects can be a delicious and environmentally friendly addition to our diets. Our conversation delved into the innovative ways in which Chef Yoon is using edible insects to address food security, highlighting his passion and expertise in this emerging field.

I'm definitely up for eating insects if it can help manage my diabetes being high in protein and low in carbs. I just need it to be flavored properly.

These are the same creatures being ravaged by a disease that eats them from the butt upwards? I think I'll pass. In fact, I think I'll pass on the whole bug-eating idea period thanks all the same.

No disrespect to this cohaving a bug phobia I couldn't eat any of them . I think that's been a huge flaw in mine and other countries food development, if we were brought up with this type of food we'd be fine and probably healthier too . from Englanduntry or any other that eats bugs, but not being brought up to eat them and

I once had to proctor a test for a nutritional studies professor who'd brought in a bag of cricket-flour cookies for her class to try. She looked a little bummed that so few people wanted to try them, so I went up and gave it a shot to embolden more people. It really isn't bad! The chitin flakes definitely stick in your mouth a little bit, kinda like the papery outside of peanuts, but the flavor is like sunflower seeds.

I don't understand this, we currently live in a time when the world produces more calories per person then any orher time in human history. We are on the precipice of making starvation and famine a thing of the past. Why are we pushing eating bugs?

I ate all these bugs to survive during genocide back 1975 to 1979. My favorite one would be tarantulas. Spider looks terrifying but it tastes like soft crab. My worst one would be water bugs as it tastes bitter with crunchy and earthy. They need to change the new oil more often. I'm glad to see people are still eating them today. I usually tried to eat fried spiders when I visited the Kingdom. Don't let the bugs bug you, just eat the bugs. Happy Khmer snacks from abroad!

I used to own two Jackson Chameleons and I used to feed them Mealworms. I had to sprinkle vitamin powder and other things to keep them healthy, they always were appetizing for me....but then again, Phil and lil; are my favorite Rugrats.

Had my first bug experience with grasshopper tacos in NY 2 years ago (really good!) and I've been wanting to branch out more since. Would LOVE to sit down for a full bug meal with this guy- he's so passionate and knowledgeable and I love it. People are way too quick to throw out the idea of eating bugs or "gross" things.

Don't eat bugs, don't eat burgers, eat high quality T-Bone steaks, I like medium-rare best. People should stop ruining "real food" with sugar and chemicals. We need more grazing land and more cows. Stop fracking, we need to protect the cows so I can eat them. A healthy diet is easy. Beef Builds Beautiful Bodies.
