    Small fish and small animals are well suited for survival cooking. Throw the entire animal in the fire, flip after 3 minutes, then 3 more. The scales and skin almost fall off, pick through the flesh and avoid what you don't want to eat.
    We have a lot of gar here in Texas, the scales interlock and have very high silica content, it's easy to ruin the edge on a good knife trying to scale them. Cooking in the fire breaks down the connective tissue between the scales, they come off like a zipper.

    I found some thin plastic sheet "emergency thermal blankets/sheets" at the dollar store. Folded up it's 1/3 the size of a cellphone. For a couple of bucks, throw a couple of those into each one of your packs. Doesn't take up space, doesn't weigh anything. Serves to keep warm, helps waterproof your improv shelter, catch rainwater, can even keep you dry if you have no rain jacket, or is you do, keep your lower body dry when sleeping. Maybe throw in one of those cheap rain ponchos that fold up really small too. Each one of those takes up no more total volume than a couple of those lighters.

    • @ZippedUpKitz
      @ZippedUpKitz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I have three of each in my pack! One to wrap,up,in if it’s cold, one to use as a shelter and one to use for holding water… the ponchos are for basically the same… I like the hood on the poncho to collect water… wear one to keep dry and the other can be used to make water out of a solar still if you cannot find a water source nearby… you can even use one of the Mylar blankets to intensify the humidity or heat for the solar still! Those two items are always part of my survival bags and my camping gear! I Never ever go without them… I even keep several of them in the trunk of our car!

    The animals: Once in a while, we get these creatures that moves upright and lives in our forest. They also travel using these weird boxes that makes noises and go really fast.

    I've watched you before. No idea how i wasn't already subscribed but i am now. There are way too many videos of people setting in their garage talking about survival and no where near enough getting out and showing examples. Videos like these are my favorite and and turn into my ASMR when I go to bed. Thanks for the hard work to put something together like this.

    That was a fun adventure! Really enjoyed it!
    I wonder if you could fold up a small ziplok or just a plastic bag under the tape on your lighter, although it might just suffer from the same issue as the foil. I never knew that you could scrape the dust off the lighter wheel to make a bigger spark. That's a new one, need to test it out myself someday.

    Very interesting and amazing stuff. I just kinda hoped you would've taught us more of how and why you did the things you did. For example, how you remembered in what direction you left your truck any of the things you memorized like maybe you left it uphill, upstream, next to a "landmark" you memorized, etc... Also, how you identified the things you ate, especially the berries. I did get excited when I spotted them seconds before you did and even blurted out, "Oh wow, blackberries!" It was nice to be correct when you said they were blackberries but on second thought they didn't exactly look like blackberries to me, so I wouldn't have even touched them if I had any doubts.
    I understand you had more important things in mind like finding nourishment and water, so big thanks either way for sharing your experience. Awesome channel.

    awesome vid, incrediblely insightful, treat your gear like an ambulance and always restock after each use. test your gear for drawbacks like the defects of the foil. always have something that can hold to boil water. the basic notes - cook the chicken of the woods or you get sick, cook the fish till the eyes turn white, boil water with heated rocks is priceless. please continue.

    it's video like this one that makes you appreciate those "crappy" survival kits that have at least an emergency blanket, a ferro rod and purication tablets, with bunch of plastic bags. I love this realistic content thank you for giving us the truth of having to survive the environment

    Make a fishing pole. Find a 10' springy stick with a Y at the end. Take a piece of line and enclose the Y to make an eye. Tie one end of your line to the opposite end of the pole and then run the other end up the length of the pole and through the eye that you made. Bring it back down to the bottom and cut it off about 4' longer than the bottom of the pole. Tie on your hook. The idea is a swing bait pole. Pull the standing string by the pole as far to the side as you can while you lift the pole above your head. This will lift your bait off the ground and start it swinging toward the water. At the appex of the swing let go of the string in your hand while you lower the pole and the tip toward your cast. Your cast should be 24' from you. Reeling can be walking backward or pulling in lengths of line like a fly fisherman. I have also successfully cast the bait from behing me in a throwing motion. Your choice. Have fun.
