@@user-kp6ud7ht4z Bogs and tar pits probably, something else was at play if otherwise. One search and you can find the debunks on quicksand danger by more qualified people than me to discuss it.
@@user-kp6ud7ht4z chances are those bones excavated were mainly from the lower body like feet, leg bones, or hips. Sand is denser than the human body, and by that I mean not just your bones, but also your skin, muscles, organs, and natural bodily fluids, AKA water. When all the meat rots away, the water evaporates and the ligaments on the bones disintegrate, then and only then can bones of an *upper body* get buried. Regarding that burial, it likely happened over time through repeated floods. You can't sink all the way up to your head if you're not a disembodied skeleton though, in vivo the sand will keep you encased like cement and stop around your waist or your chest if you're somehow still struggling and not exhausted. This is due to quicksand's properties as a non-newtonian fluid, when an object of low surface area applies pressure on the otherwise solid sand surface, it displaces the particles and water fills the area where pressure is applied. However, as the remaining sand is compressed down, the particles fill the space back up again and start behaving like a solid, which is how you get stuck. If you've ever been swimming at the beach then the sand under your feet in the water is hard, and it's like that in quicksand too but there's a layer of sand still suspended in the water around your legs. If you know what to do, you'd gradually wiggle out and either float on your back or bear crawl, in both cases increasing your surface area. If you don't know what you're doing then you'll die not from going under, but from exposure to the elements, landslides, flash floods, predators, or dehydration. Your upper body will still be visible and you will see the land around you before you die. Regarding this video: this kid while his form isn't perfect is still crawling out of the sand how you're supposed to. Chances are he was never going to get stuck and the guy recording would never have uploaded this if he knew this kid was in serious danger. Ultimately quicksand is actually very slow and is most dangerous if you freak out or you know another flood is coming. If you don't think that's true look it up for yourself, they tested it on myth busters.
Ikr that's crazy surely your natural instinct would be to help the kid and not just stand with your phone recording, some people are just mental nowadays

I mean, we don't know if the kid was given the instructions for how to maneuver himself out the quicksand prior to the video; but if he wasn't, then he's *very lucky* to have figured it out himself. The kid looks like he knows what he's doing and is doing it correctly for the most part.

@@tamashford1 well the fact is that do the density it's impossible to completely be swallowed by quicksand. People that know this and how to move their body can escape. That's what this video was about showing that even a child can get out of quicksand and that it's not as bad as people think if they are educated. Whenever you hear about somebody dying from quicksand; it's not because they got swallowed. It's because without proper knowledge of how to get out; you can be stuck indefinitely. If this happens in a remote area and you are alone, you can die of exposure, or drowning if it's in a tidal area. So before calling somebody an idiot, check the statement that you are saying they're an idiot on. You don't die from quicksand by sinking. You die from getting stuck and not being able to have someone around to help you out of it if you don't have the education of what to do when you encounter it. The density will never let you sink above your chest contrary to what movies depict

It's that same smartphone that allows you to so easily gain the knowledge of what quicksand actually is, where its found, and how dangerous or not that it is. Like most things that interest me in this world, I had read about quicksand before ever encountering it for the 1st time in the wild. No telling how much of the stuff we've messed around in before this video but this was the best example I've seen and no more dangerous than any previous. People are quick to comment on the video without having a shred of knowledge or experience with it. Just plain ignorance. Rampant and acute ignorance.
@@morganman1975 I'd just use my pants to try pull someone out, regardless of how dangerous or otherwise it is. Don't know much on quick sand, just that land masses slowly eating people is not beneficial to anyone.

I find it amazing how spent he is from moving out of the quicksand in probably less than a minute. That is no small task to get out of that. He was calmly using his whole body to get out. Even a super fit person would get spent after a few minutes in that stuff. Great little video.
You need to teach him the importance of spreading out, or trying to flatten his body. The idea is to evenly distribute your weight to stay on top of the quicksand, then make an effort to move across the surface. Once your feet are down, they can be VERY hard to lift them back out. Thus, you're stuck.
@Nonaya Bidness Did people you know actually die because of this? I use to play around like this with my friends and it's not a big deal. If you lost people because of this, my condolences but I feel like with enough knowledge, you are safe.

The quicksand won’t kill you, but if there’s a rising tide, that can do you in. There are some beaches in England that are much stickier than this, and you can get genuinely stuck.
That kid looked like he was having the time of his life! And really, as long as you're calm and know how to deal with it, you'll be fine. Struggling deeper, or diving head first are the only ways quicksand is dangerous alone.

Not possible, quicksand is too dense. That scene in Blazing Saddles is about how quicksand goes down.
😂
@@henrys3138 thousands of ancient human remains have been unearthed from quick sand excavations, what are you talking about
@@user-kp6ud7ht4z Bogs and tar pits probably, something else was at play if otherwise.

@@tamashford1 and what does quick sand do?

You need to teach him the importance of spreading out, or trying to flatten his body. The idea is to evenly distribute your weight to stay on top of the quicksand, then make an effort to move across the surface. Once your feet are down, they can be VERY hard to lift them back out. Thus, you're stuck.

We're actually filled with enough air in our chests to overcome drowning in quicksand. The only way you could sink in it is if you actively dug down into it and wanted to die. This video really shows real quicksand not dramatized by hollywood
The quicksand won’t kill you, but if there’s a rising tide, that can do you in. There are some beaches in England that are much stickier than this, and you can get genuinely stuck.
Flashflood and landslide prone areas are really the only places where quicksand could be an issue

Funny thing is, most negative comments in this thread are from people who envision themselves in this kids shoes and knowing deep down they would be panicked and want help. Which is why they are upset with the dad in this video. However, this kid is incredibly composed and had the situation currently under control. For a lot of people who first instinct is flight not fight, this is a hard video to watch without getting upset.
All these people who are commenting about it are blindly believing what movies tell them quicksand is. One need only to Google what quicksand is to know something about it. But they would rather just comment without a shred of knowledge. It's one thing to just not know and be mistaken. But it's an entirely different type of stupid when you don't care to know at all. Irretrievably stupid.
Just needs a little bit of a back story of sorts. Did they stumble into it? Did the kid just jump in?
