- Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers review is an upcoming fighting game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch video game console, which is scheduled to release in May 2017. It is an updated version of 1994's Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The game features two graphical styles-classic pixel art and updated high-definition art. New gameplay mechanics and modes have been introduced and tweaks have been made to the game's balance.

I heard they will make Midly Annoyed Ken and Sexually Frustrated Ryu my dad work at Capcom.
Ryutaa Kuzunoha Ryu goes around punching things out of frustration while Ken sits there looking mildly annoyed about it.

You can't buy it on Steam. It's console only and a very good remaster. But 39.99€ is too exspensive.... The Xbox 360/Ps3 download was 15€ before 9 years. You can get it on sales for 5€.

I remember when I paid 15 for HD remix on the 360/PS3 ages ago. Capcom/Nintendo asking for 40+tax for this is laughable.
Hence why I pretty much stopped buying games. Mostly just retro game now.

I'm giving them benefit of the doubt that they wanted to see how well the console sells before making original games. If they keep doing this next year I would be very disappointed.

I like the greater amount of options with this version. I remember not being able to turn off the updated character visuals in the original HD Remix and always thought that was pretty annoying. It's nice that this Switch version gives you more control in that regard.
It's pretty fucked up they slapped a $40 price tag on this game. Should be $20 for the physical, $10 to $15 for digital.

Not once did I shit on another platform and ofc you have to pay for internet it's quite standard these days. Judging your pfp I'm sure you like Nintendo, and the switch is a good console because it's innovative but I have no need for it and I don't agree with the paid online. My first Street Fighter was Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition on the SEGA Genesis, it was a birthday present from my grandparents and for that reason it will always be special to me, but this version looks interesting enough that I'll probably pick it up some time in the near future.
You should do a video on how you make the happy console gamer videos. I would personally love to see the behind the scenes of the series on how you shoot the vids and what you use to edit your videos.

Good seeing other people pointing out that Violent Ken isn't new and remember him from SvC Chaos. Also, the reason he had that warp was because his jump back then was absolutely terrible IIRC.
one thing worth mentioning for sure is that this was hd remix was around a $15 game here in Canada and for some reason the switch version had a full retail price tag on it which I don't feel is justified for the small bit they added in
+HappyConsoleGamer I read several times on other sites and watched other videos that say the HD graphics on Ultra II aren't the original HD Remix graphics. That they were redone from the ground up again, and better looking than the original HD Remix graphics? Would you say that was true?
Much as I like Hyper Fighting, Champion Edition and Super Turbo, this is my favorite version. Unlike most I do enjoy the hand drawn art, the smooth inputs and getting E. Ryu Violent Ken and Shin Akuma. Plus you don't need to use that ridiculously hard and tedius cheat to unlock Akuma.
I've played Street Fighter 2 ever since it came out day one, played the game to death with my older brothers. But we always had Street Fighter 2 Turbo, I never had any of the extensions, so for me, it's like this game has SEVEN new characters and that alone is a great reason for me to pick it up already. Plus, I'm gonna have so much fun with that colour editor and online matches!

I'd consider this product if Capcom gave the option to choose between Sirlin-remix mechanics and classic ST mechanics but it's nice they gave the option of using OG skins and stages. Maybe this will happen in an update. Thanks for the review.
There should have been a reverse-Buddy Battle mode where you fought on your own against two opponents. I'd definitely be attempting to fight the team of Evil Ryu and Violent Ken with a difficulty as hard as I could manage.
Been thinking of picking this game up just to have a fighter for the Switch. I have One of the versions of this game on my Genesis but getting this upgrade seems like it would be a fun time .

For me, the Street Fighter 2, Alpha and III series are timeless, having it in every new console is not a waste os money, is having a game I know I will have fun anytime, anywhere.
This is not just a direct port of HD remix, it has been tweaked in gameplay. It sounds like just a port the way you're talking about it.
I love USF2. I play online on it all the time on my Switch. If you have USF2, then you don't need the previous versions of Street Fighter 2.
But I need to smash up a car still every now and then.
The graphics are wonderful and it plays just as great. So if you are hating on this version but love the classic version somethings wrong then they're basically identical just the graphics really have an upgraded but I love the game
I hate HD sprites of SF characters. Akira 'Akiman' Yasuda art was what made the golden age of Capcom fighting games so great.

To be honest, Blazblu is just a tiny step over Guilty Gear and not everyone including me enjoys detail overload, so - no, not really. Recent GG has cell shading style done well but as I mentioned, well animated sprites have unique charm which was totally lost with 3D of SF4 and SF5. I remember being intrigued by "ink" trailer of SF4 when it was announced but the game did not have it's own visual identity, even with interesting PC filters and fan mods.

10 out of 10 for me , still the greatest fighting game of all time, also the 2008 version didnt have an option for classic backrounds.
I know you can switch ( no pun intended) to the original soundtrack but what about the superior arranged 3do version?
I feel like given the "Sheng-Long" rumor from the 90's the extra character should've been Master Gouken instead of Violent Ken.

This game, is amazing with my Hori PS4 fightstick. I'm using a brook converter along with a USB to USB C cable in undocked mode. Feels like a mini arcade.

I just downloaded it a week ago and I love it. The new characters, the artwork, and the music plays great. I give it an 8 out of 10. My gripes are the price, Way of the Hado mode is absolute steamy garbage, and my favorite character, Sagat, actually sounds worse in the new sounds. So I switch to Classic mode to play as him. The rebalance has been done very well. Much easier to do Super Combos and whatnot. People griping about the hitboxes and the new graphics messing up frame data are competitive players looking to bitch. Nothing wrong with that at all
The animations for the background people look smoother in Classic graphics.
Is it worth 40 bucks if your new to the franchise? The price tag as of now is the only thing barring me from getting it.
This edition is nice, but the lack of 3-player Buddy Battle and Edition Select menus are what throws me off.
HD remix has broken combos in classic mode. This version should be the definitive not broken version of Super Turbo. Akuma as an example had never hurt boxes while attacking, you could not hurt him while he was in action. Vega has had a 99.99999% walldive mixup. He is banned in japanese tournaments since 1993. Honda had a stun lock combo wich you can not escape.
Any SF2 game also has for some reason random extra damage and random stun values. You can dizzy someone with the first low punch.
I prefer this one as inputs for special moves are way more responsive.
I played this at the switch preview event. I couldn't believe that it was literally the same game I had on my ps3 at home. (hd remix on PS3 was $3). insulting.

virtual fighter 4 evolution had a vf1 retro port within the game that added characters from later games (think it was venessa and aoi). It would have been kinda cool to see that for usf2. sprite versions of 3 or 4 newcomers balanced in a sf2 style. just adding violent ken and evil ryu feels a bit cheap.
$40 USD for a decade old remake with some crappy add-ons is an insult to consumers. I hope this bombs and sends a message to Crapcom.

Lucas Greene It's HD Remix, which came out in 2008. One could argue that it's Super Street Fighter II Turbo (which came out in 1994) but the HD graphics version is 100% HD Remix from 2008.

Since when was Akuma a playable character in Street Fighter 2? I admit I haven't played this game for a while, but I don't remember him being playable in any version. Just seems weird that all the attention is on Evil Ryu and Violent Ken as added characters.
they re drew the sprites but they didn't make more animation frames ,so the back ground is still a slide show that loke kinda dated on a "new system".

I'm not sure how it would affect the gameplay, neither does anyone here, but I'd be willing to at least try it out.
And it's just baffling in it's stupidity to think, as at least one here implies, that SF is somehow defined by it's now antiquated, shitty frame rates.
My guess is that if you only added frames but changed nothing else, the game would be difficult to play because things would happen in the game logic in accordance with the original key frames and not the new ones, confusing the player into making later or earlier control inputs. Things would look like they should work but wouldn't work. You would have to learn (subconsciously or otherwise) which added frames alias to the original key frame, and it might not ever feel right.

I wonder if they fixed the hit boxes and frames of the HD Remix version on this one. Never liked that HD version, this one seems cool that you can actually go back to the pixeled graphics and backgrounds, on the HD Remix version you could change the characters but not the backgrounds, it looked awful when you do that. The price doesn't help but at least has the advantage of being able to play it on the go and even have a PvP match anywhere using both joycons
Although I like the 3Strike and the New generation (fantastic animation & design), those games don't even need HD, little scanlines effects and very very good result, but an HD remaster Street Fighter 2 for the Switch turned out great. It's the most recognizable game design in Street Fighter. It's exclusive! Buy offcourse.
I got mixed feelings about the price but I got it. I will grab my brother a copy on my next payday. The thing I loved about the game is we used to play it a lot and it doesn't matter to us if we do combos or not. We just play til our thumbs hurt or take turns playing arcade mode. It brings so much memories of afternoons spent playing the game. If you guys don't want to pick up the game and you are itching for a fighting game on the Switch, grab King of Fighters 98. The consensus seems to be that 98 is the best KoF game in the series.

FEI LONG is my favorite
Street Fighter games for me ended with SFIII Third Strike. Everything after that changed things up too much and played crappy. I'd like to play this but don't have a Switch.

Buddy Battle? pffffffft. The very first Fatal Fury arcade already did that yeeeeears ago. And then you'd have to fight each other. So awesome
New sprites look nice and clean, but the background characters look like they're giants. I imagine the main characters going up in the background and being eclipsed by their height lol.

The only realistic way for them to justify this price (since people already seemed to pre-order it) is to 1. Reduce the price of the digital version by $10 and 2. Announce that they will be adding additional content throughout the summer (with at least one by next week), to include an improved buddy battle 2 v1 mode, where you can actually do 2 v 2 with 4 players and against the entire roster of characters in their respective stages. Another thing they could add, is a demo for an upcoming port of a street fighter 4 complete (with new buddy battle 2v2 mode) and maybe even the SF 2 animated movie with Japanese language and enlglish subtitles. Until I see some sort of announcement for these features, I have decided not to even touch this game.
I'd love to get this when I get a switch...but I can't justify nearly full price for this game at all. If it was like £20-25 instead of £35 then it'd be easier as it's a physical copy.
