    People also have to take picture quality into account. Obviously, if you have an OLED at a bigger size, you’re going to be paying a chunk of change for it. I have a 65” OLED in my master bedroom, which is where my fiancée and I watch most movies as it’s dark. For the living room, I definitely would go 75” or up, which is what I’m planning to do with my next OLED. That, or a projector. Great video!!!

  • @playafly131
    @playafly131 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    One other thing I think buyers must beware of is anything north of 75+ is going to appear humongous once in your home. In the wrong room and design space it can look out of place and obnoxious
    It’ll also permanently require you to get assistance anytime you need to move it even a small distance
    Great channel and video as always!

    Around 2000 I bought a Sony XBR 32" tv for around $1600-1700. The reason it was so high was because it was an early HD set, capable of 1080i which was quite something back then. Now I'm going from a 50" plasma to an 85" LED from Sony. The 85" Sony btw cost me right at $2,000, just a few hundred more than the tiny 32" in 2000 did.

    I usually go between 55-65" depending on the room. Anything bigger than 65" is too hard to move and gets very expensive. Personally, 65" high end, premium tv is more desirable than 85" mid range tv as well.

    • @momsbasement656

      As long as you realize the experience is going to be compromised if you sit too far away. It doesn't matter how nice the TV set is if you are sitting so far away the immersion is ruined. Hopefully, huge TVs get cheaper and easier to install soon. Until then, we will just have to use a projector and deal with it's drawbacks for large pictures at a far back seating distance.

    I'm mainly going to be using my tv for gaming, does that affect size consideration? I land right between the 55 & 65 with my space and viewing distance, I have read that since with gaming you will be tracking random move objects on screen at a rapid rate, having a smaller screen generally makes eye fatigue and response speed faster.

      I use the less than the 1.34 rule at 100” for 1080p TV and am fine with it. It’s better if your TV upscales well, but shouldn’t be a dealbreaker if it doesn’t.

    • @momsbasement656

      If you look at the visual acuity charts, 4K is good enough for even the most extreme screen sizes. Your eye can literally NOT SEE 8K until the screen is so close it's useless. 8K IS A SCAM. Or at least not worth 1 cent over 4K, despite what Samsung's marketing wants you to believe.

    • @momsbasement656
      @momsbasement656 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alex Sonne No, they said that about 1080. Which was chosen because in experiments, viewers couldn't see a improvement with any higher resolution. Even on a huge TV. The problem is, this was 25 years ago. A "huge" TV was a 50" rear projection. Once you get over 75" at 10ft away, 4K can start to help. *Start*. 4K is a little useful. 8K is not.

    Most people's wallets are not going to want to hear this, but my experience has been the left side of those ranges is the right one. It's easy to experiment with the size of a screen if you have a projector and can change the zoom. Like Villaman, my family found a 100" screen at around 9 feet away was good for everything, including mixed viewing. Any smaller was not as immersive. Once the screen got over 120" at 9 feet away, it was too big for anything but video games that have the main character or car anchored to the middle of the screen.

    Brought a 55inch 4k tv sony xe930 in 2018 watching at approximately 8ft. Scaling on this tv is brilliant but sadly a large percentage of viewing material is in low quality with sprinkling of hdr etc. So the moral of the story is your viewing distance/tv size is only good as the weakest link. Larger the screen and the closer you sit the worse it's going to look on substandard material. Your tv is waiting for the rest of the technology revolution to catch up so it can give it's peak performance.

    Remember when movies on VHS started letterboxing to give the viewer a more cinematic experience. Then TVs went to widescreens. Now TVs are flat and wide but streaming services like Amazon and Netflix to conserve bandwidth and better quality are letterboxing their streams. So that 75" flat screen becomes really a 65" when watching certain streaming content. That's the reason I'm now looking to upgrade my TV size, many streaming services letterboxing content. The TV is already a widescreen. STOP LETTERBOXING! We're paying full price. Give us a full picture.

    I could not imagine 65 inches this close to the television. 4K looks amazing from this distance. I do a lot of gaming and cannot stand when the character is too big. So I could not handle 65. I could do 48 before I could go up to 65 from where I sit.
    Also I'm laying back in this measurement. So say I sit up while I'm gaming, that takes away another foot.
    I'm the guy who if I can't get tickets at the very back of the movie theater I'm not going to see that movie that day or that Showtime. I've gotten rainchecks and refunds because there was only front seats left at the movies before.
