Wonderful imagery illustrate, easy to see Christ in the OT. For God's mercy to us are new every morning. If God does not revive, awake, refresh, renew us each morning, to open our ears and eyes to hear and obey, then we will be taking that precious rest and not waking until Christ calls us in the rapture and to rule and reign w Him.

The tongue of the 'learned' are those who have 'learned'... the 'hard way'.
There is a difference between night and 'morning' - notice the battle that Jacob goes through that MUST end at morning - at which point Jacob is given a 'new name'.
Not being rebellious nor turning away - is referring to continuing to fight against God (rebellion) NOR turning away, in anger for the 'faithful wounds' (love) that is recieved.
A 'staff' guides the obedient, a 'rod' breaks those who deny God's sovereignty. God ALWAYS wins.
