I got my Alocasia about five months ago and she has been the most stress free plant. It dropped one leaf when I brought it home and that was it. I bottom water with pretty hard tap water, and I had it about three ft from an east facing door, so it got a little sun burn but she didn't really mind it bc she keeps putting out new leaves😅😅 I have it in cactus mix with lots of perlite and some spag. I think it's the most laid back Alocasia X)
I hope you feel better soon! I just wanted to say that I never had any problems with any of my alocasias. I have the cuprea, regina, silver dragon, amazonica, macrorrhiza, stingray, zebrina... and I've never had any bad expieriences with them. They also never go in dormancy en spring out new leaves all the time. I consider all my alocasias as the easiest plants I own. I water them when I think about it and I live in Belgium so the climate isn't perfect either. It's weird how some plants do better with some people or in certain houses! But good luck to every alocasia owner! If they are happy they are so rewarding!
Marthe Hi, I’m in America, and like you I water them when I think about it. They’re all outside, we’re in Florida so we get lots of rain now this time of year, September, and we have 9 or 12, if you count the babies about 3” tall probably more! The biggest one has leaves roughly 4’long.

Me, stacking all my plants in a temperature and humidity controlled room with grow lights to supplement the short sun time, my alocasia has put 4 leaves this 2 months! I am so happy.
If anyone is looking for care on the dragon scale they seem to be a bit different. More succulent and like to dry out a bit more. Also potting in a aroid mix of potting soil, perlite, orchid bark and moss for a more airy mix looks well. Also potting in terra-cotta saved my dragon!
So like many people I only got into plants last year in lockdown 😂 I've been shielding and missed new plants so decided I was going to risk ordering a random 'green plant' in my sainsburys food shop and I got very sad and soggy alocasia 😂 it's leaves are browning. I always loved these guys but never bought one as I'm happy with my calathea being my problem babies 😂 I took it out of its pot to check the roots and they seemed mostly fine, I repot and it's drying up nicely but it still looks sad with the leaves browning more. I would really like to save this baby because it is absolutely stunning so I am watching your video and so far you seem to go into way more detail than anyone else Ive watched so thank you!

Mainly orchid grower, transitioning into other tropicals; Misting is very good for most tropical plants. Rot and fungal problems are the bane of an orchid collectors life. Small fans that don’t push leaves around but just move air change your grow space drastically. Plants can’t have the same single water drop sitting on the same exact spot for a day without consequence. You know this obviously (pathogens, fungus, edema...). I also use an aerosolized water sprayer (we barbers and stylist use them) it’s a gentler, finer mist. You could mist 5x a day inside and it would dry between each time and the plants love this! Also if you use 0 TDS water “pure” water of course this most closely simulated mist, and rain... Your channel is the best! Please keep sharing and thriving!
I just got my _Alocasia reginula_ from the store, too. I couldn’t stop absent-mindedly rubbing the black velvety leaves-I didn’t know that they’re toxic. I heard that you’re not supposed to expose them to direct light to keep the black color(?)

I'm my very limited experience in plant care, I've learned that dark leaves prefer less light (such as shade or in direct light) and light leaves prefer more light. This seems to apply to my indoor plants so far.
You are soooooo good. Thorough. And honest. And love your answer to an easy alocasia- pick up a common alocasia. Really honest legit answer. Someone lesser would have copped out or made up some bs answer. Your quality video and consistency of that quality - cause fake people tend to he good once or twice but then they slip and get lazy - impresses me. Feel better! Hope uve recovered by now. I'm afraid I might be cursing myself because I just purchased a rare Alocasia and I hope my experience continues to hold true, but I currently have four Alocasias and have not found them to be particularly difficult. My first one - Alocasia serendipity - was a bit frustrating at first to figure out, but it seemed to appreciate smaller, more frequent waterings and never letting the soil dry out, and now it's thriving and I can barely keep up with its growth! Good luck to future growers! I find them to be a super rewarding plant because it is a lot of fun to watch the new leaves start to emerge!
That’s it! pop some pain meds and talk about plants! My kind of girl 💚 I’ve learned that they’re fine with neglect and don’t like a lot of water because they’re stems are filled with water and you’ll know when they need to be watered.

I have shared my flat with a group of Alocasia Portodora for a year. They each are at differing stages of maturity in the same pot, which provides a great show. The older plant produces a leaf just under 50cm along the spine. In summer, I can enjoy up to 3 leaves per plant at one time, which I am very proud of. The best thing I have done is potting them in a tall 75cm self watering pot with a 7.5 litres storage.This type of Alocasia is very forgiving and can thrive in direct sunlight provided you keep the tank full. Its like having a little bit of Amazonia in your living room!

I've watched this 5-6 times maybe to always remind me if my care practice is still right. Today, I noticed that the bottom leaf of my BlackVelet is very droopy. Started watering it but cant seem to find the answer. Then to my surprise I saw a small leaf growing. So Kayle, you're right about the thirsty, eye level part of this video
These are my new favorite plants. They are just so beautiful. I had a few of the small older leaves drop when I first brought it home. I think the grocery store I picked it up from overwatered it. It's doing great now though. I have it under a grow light to supplement it and have a humidifier close by. It's putting out a bunch of new leaves.
My very first plant was Alocasia macrorrhizos, picking up a small stem from outdoor. I named her Diana. She's extremely easy-going, tolerating high and low humidity, over and under watering, light and heavy soil, full sun and low light, etc. When I was in my twenties, I went for a business trip for two months without asking someone to take care of my plants, and she was still alive and well when I was back. Two decades have passed and she's still with me, giant and healthy, and she has produced numerous babies over the years. So I guess if someone's looking for an easy-going alocasia, Alocasia macrorrhizos it is. It's the easiest not just among all alocasias, but among the entire house-plant universe.
This was very informative! I have an elephant ear alocasia and made the mistake of overwatering it when I first got it home. So many leaves turned yellow and went to mush. Thankfully the plant bounced back and now I've got like 10 new leaves/stems popping up. Was looking to see if I should repot it or not so thank you for the tip about keeping them tight but not rootbound/roots out the bottom.
Your advice with the new leaf is SPOT ON. My Bambino had a new leaf coming out and the soil dried out in three days from freshly watering! Not even exaggerating.
Just a different point of view here. I found for both alocacia and calethea if they don't do well in soil, take the out put them straight into water for a couple of weeks and then move them to semi-hydro leca. I have had to rescue a pink dragon alocacia, white star calethea and calethea ornata due to spider mites, over watering or not enough humidity. They are now thriving. I do have 4 other alocacia in regular soil (Chunky well drained mix) in Bright northern light (I'm in Texas) and one under a covered area outside facing south. All of them looking good and loving life. So far, no casualties and hope to keep it that way.
In my opinion, Polly's are a little harder because they're more picky about their watering. My Regal Shield and Low Rider Alocasia's do well even with slight neglect lol. Love your video! :)
I have one allocasia Polly, which seems to love me so I just ordered a zebrina, not knowing that Alocasias are sensitive-mine must love its space, but have only had it a couple of months-thanks for the tips! I’ll be picking up a water gauge before the new one arrives. I absolutely love my Polly....

I would say you were pretty spot on with your comment about getting the hang of your plant and it becoming easier. I have a Frydek on my work desk and it is thriving there!!! It’s a little dry because I don’t have a humidifier in my office so I do find I have to water it often.

I love Alocasia, but I'm not sure if it's too much of a diva for me, I haven't had the chance to try a common one yet, and I have seen these in my Home Depot, so we will see, I love your tips and your videos on care and different plants that are easy to care for and such. I bought a Polly to test how and if I could care for it. It has Yellow spots and you answered my question. I fine it difficult to know where to put my Alocacia and atm it is in the kitchen because it has the most humidity. I watch it like a Hawk and have moved it about a zillion times😂. I must say this is the most helpful (and inspiring) video on alocasias I found so far. Thank you! ☀️ My alocasia curly bambino died almost two months ago 😢 (initially I thought it went dormant, but it turned out that I overwatered it after it lost its leaves and it simply rotted away...), and I decided to wait with getting another alocasia until spring comes. Now - I'm tempted to try again, this time with A. Polly. I've never had any problems with my marantaceae plants so far * touch on wood * (I have 2 calatheas, 2 ctenanthes, 1 stromanthe, and 1 maranta) even though they're known for being difficult and finicky. Maybe I should give alocasia a second chance... Either way - thank you again! 💚☀️🌿
I hope you’re feeling better! I have 2 alocasia frydeks . They got spider mites at the end of last August because they were positioned next to a open southern window . I’m pretty sure they came in that way because my zz plant also got them positioned in another room with the window facing the same direction . I had my frydeks near a humidifier too. My point being the first thing I noticed were yellow spots scattered over some leaves. Later I saw webbing. They’ve been treated and quarantined. One is getting ready to bloom again so I hope they make it. I love your videos! Thanks!
Thank you for this! You are well-spoken and very thorough with your care tips. I agree with your comparison to sansevieria for potting tips. I think their rhizomes are similar. I have a polly/amazonica in a shallow pot and it's pushing up shoots like my sansevieria. And I made the mistake of thinking the polly was easy because they are so abundant in nurseries here in U.S. Almost lost it until I added the humidifier and watering more. It's a happier plant now. Looking forward to the next video-you have a great channel.
Thank you for actually talking about the alocasia zebrina! I recently bought one on clearance at my local hardware store, not realizing how much work it would take to keep it alive in my house during the winter, and I’ve had such a difficult time finding any useful tips on this particular plant. It’s still struggling a little, but I think once I buy a soil moisture meter and some grow lights it’ll perk up!

After caring for 43 house plants I decided for mothers day to take the leap and buy an Allocasia Black Velvet. I do have central air and the average humidity level is 40-55% in our home. Would she be happier in a terrarium?
I planted my Alocasia in my bog filter for my koi pond. 12” of pea gravel and water! In full sun. So far, it looks great! Thanks for the real how-to for when it comes inside for the winter though.
It's -40 here in Canada my alocasia ( I got a big Al too) just sprung a new leaf...so definitely not in dormancy haha I have no clue why it's doing so well
Hi fellow Canadian! All my plants are perking up in spite of the cold outside. I think it's because the days are starting to get longer and the sun (when it's out) is starting to feel warmer inside, if that makes sense.
@@deanna1904 Due to global warming, the heat from the sun is stronger now in February then it used to be, so even if it is -15 (Manitoba) the heat coming in the window is quite wonderful and I think the plants enjoy that.

I grow all my alocasia outside here in Pensacola FL zone 9b I think??? I noticed that my new leafs always open during thunderstorms..... I hope this video doesn't scare anyone because my experience and opinion is this plant is very easy considering you check it daily and properly water and give it good light!!! Also it loves rain so put it outside in storms every now and then if the temperature is warm of course 60-90 Fahrenheit
This has been so helpful one of mine went totally dormant and I put it in a plastic bag on a heat mat and it's coming back when spring gets here I will take it out. I also did this to some of my other plants and they also are coming back 3 of them are the prayer plants I couldn't believe my eyes. Your awesome thanks.

I almost killed my huge alocasia zebrina that I bought in a multistore for 12€... It had like 12 majestic leaves and one by one they became yellow and I had to remove them. There were only 2 leaves left. They where the center ones and the bigger. Now I'm having a little baby leave from that one and I just bought a Amazonica and a Lauterchiana. I hope they survive! Thanks for this video! I thought my Alocasia had rotten roots because the leafs were turning yellow. I checked the roots but they weren't rotten, thankfully. Because of your video I think it might be inconsistent watering

I’ve noticed my Alocasia Polly drinks a lot of water but has soft leaves. The moisture meter will show it’s on the dry side when I’ve just watered it 2 days ago. I’m new to alocasia and I will revisit this video every now and then. Thanks again

Thanks for making this video. I have what I believe is an African Mask alocasia and I’ve nearly lost it a couple of times now. I seems my house is just too cold and they go dormant in winter. I did have luck with planting it in a upright 40 gallon fish tank as an indoor terrarium. It really thrives in there. I moved it out because it got so big but I guess it’s time to move it back

It's quite interesting as a dope grower of 20 years who recently became obsessed with house plants, to see how the legit community do things. I've always considered myself a relatively successful grower, but the secrecy and need for fast turn over with weed has created a completely different method, having said that, all of the new techniques I've discovered in relation to house plants has drastically modified the way I go about growing my weed. Very interested to see how my new crop does, looking very promising so far. I have well over 100 house plants now 😁

My first alocasia was a Silver dragon. I bought it last year, in between there was winter, drop in temperatures, long periods without heating (because the landlord seems to be incompetent). It had one leaf unfurling as I got it, and it stuck there. But as the building started to warm up again, the leaf opened finally (like in February this year). Since then I bought a black velvet, a cuprea red and a dragon scale for a bit longer. And now I also have an Azlani, a Polly and the tiniest frydek variegata that I hope to be able to grow. The 4 that I have for a bit longer are all giving me new growth, they don't seem like they're suffering of anything at the moment (although I just sprayed them with neem oil because a calathea that was pretty close to them got pests, so to be sure, even if I didn't see any, I sprayed them too). This morning, as the sun shone on the window, I had 30°C where they are, now we're back at 23°C. And I have an humidifier running all the time to keep the area humid (when it stops, it drops back super fast to 25% ) I guess there are plants that suits a person better. I mean, I managed to kill a philodendron scandens brasil, without any pest involved. But my alocasias are fine.

So like many people I only got into plants last year in lockdown 😂 I've been shielding and missed new plants so decided I was going to risk ordering a random 'green plant' in my sainsburys food shop and I got very sad and soggy alocasia 😂 it's leaves are browning. I always loved these guys but never bought one as I'm happy with my calathea being my problem babies 😂 I took it out of its pot to check the roots and they seemed mostly fine, I repot and it's drying up nicely but it still looks sad with the leaves browning more. I would really like to save this baby because it is absolutely stunning so I am watching your video and so far you seem to go into way more detail than anyone else Ive watched so thank you!

New to houseplants but so glad I started with alocasia! Even though they require more frequent checks, once you figure out what it’s saying it needs, they become easy since like you said, they’re all very similar

Mainly orchid grower, transitioning into other tropicals;
Misting is very good for most tropical plants. Rot and fungal problems are the bane of an orchid collectors life. Small fans that don’t push leaves around but just move air change your grow space drastically. Plants can’t have the same single water drop sitting on the same exact spot for a day without consequence. You know this obviously (pathogens, fungus, edema...). I also use an aerosolized water sprayer (we barbers and stylist use them) it’s a gentler, finer mist. You could mist 5x a day inside and it would dry between each time and the plants love this! Also if you use 0 TDS water “pure” water of course this most closely simulated mist, and rain... Your channel is the best! Please keep sharing and thriving!

I just got my _Alocasia reginula_ from the store, too. I couldn’t stop absent-mindedly rubbing the black velvety leaves-I didn’t know that they’re toxic.
I heard that you’re not supposed to expose them to direct light to keep the black color(?)

I'm my very limited experience in plant care, I've learned that dark leaves prefer less light (such as shade or in direct light) and light leaves prefer more light. This seems to apply to my indoor plants so far.
You are soooooo good. Thorough. And honest. And love your answer to an easy alocasia- pick up a common alocasia. Really honest legit answer. Someone lesser would have copped out or made up some bs answer. Your quality video and consistency of that quality - cause fake people tend to he good once or twice but then they slip and get lazy - impresses me. Feel better! Hope uve recovered by now. I'm afraid I might be cursing myself because I just purchased a rare Alocasia and I hope my experience continues to hold true, but I currently have four Alocasias and have not found them to be particularly difficult. My first one - Alocasia serendipity - was a bit frustrating at first to figure out, but it seemed to appreciate smaller, more frequent waterings and never letting the soil dry out, and now it's thriving and I can barely keep up with its growth!
Good luck to future growers! I find them to be a super rewarding plant because it is a lot of fun to watch the new leaves start to emerge!
That’s it! pop some pain meds and talk about plants! My kind of girl 💚 I’ve learned that they’re fine with neglect and don’t like a lot of water because they’re stems are filled with water and you’ll know when they need to be watered.

Thank you for this video! Found an Alocasia polly at Home Depot last night. Going into wintertime, their selection was so small but I was stunned to have found it. Has at least 7 leaves and is one of the prettiest plants I've ever seen. Photos/videos don't do it justice 💚💚💚

I have shared my flat with a group of Alocasia Portodora for a year. They each are at differing stages of maturity in the same pot, which provides a great show. The older plant produces a leaf just under 50cm along the spine. In summer, I can enjoy up to 3 leaves per plant at one time, which I am very proud of. The best thing I have done is potting them in a tall 75cm self watering pot with a 7.5 litres storage.This type of Alocasia is very forgiving and can thrive in direct sunlight provided you keep the tank full. Its like having a little bit of Amazonia in your living room!

I've watched this 5-6 times maybe to always remind me if my care practice is still right. Today, I noticed that the bottom leaf of my BlackVelet is very droopy. Started watering it but cant seem to find the answer. Then to my surprise I saw a small leaf growing. So Kayle, you're right about the thirsty, eye level part of this video
These are my new favorite plants. They are just so beautiful. I had a few of the small older leaves drop when I first brought it home. I think the grocery store I picked it up from overwatered it. It's doing great now though. I have it under a grow light to supplement it and have a humidifier close by. It's putting out a bunch of new leaves.

I just got my first Alocasia today. This will help
My very first plant was Alocasia macrorrhizos, picking up a small stem from outdoor. I named her Diana. She's extremely easy-going, tolerating high and low humidity, over and under watering, light and heavy soil, full sun and low light, etc. When I was in my twenties, I went for a business trip for two months without asking someone to take care of my plants, and she was still alive and well when I was back. Two decades have passed and she's still with me, giant and healthy, and she has produced numerous babies over the years. So I guess if someone's looking for an easy-going alocasia, Alocasia macrorrhizos it is. It's the easiest not just among all alocasias, but among the entire house-plant universe.
This was very informative! I have an elephant ear alocasia and made the mistake of overwatering it when I first got it home. So many leaves turned yellow and went to mush. Thankfully the plant bounced back and now I've got like 10 new leaves/stems popping up. Was looking to see if I should repot it or not so thank you for the tip about keeping them tight but not rootbound/roots out the bottom.

Your advice with the new leaf is SPOT ON. My Bambino had a new leaf coming out and the soil dried out in three days from freshly watering! Not even exaggerating.
Just a different point of view here. I found for both alocacia and calethea if they don't do well in soil, take the out put them straight into water for a couple of weeks and then move them to semi-hydro leca. I have had to rescue a pink dragon alocacia, white star calethea and calethea ornata due to spider mites, over watering or not enough humidity. They are now thriving. I do have 4 other alocacia in regular soil (Chunky well drained mix) in Bright northern light (I'm in Texas) and one under a covered area outside facing south. All of them looking good and loving life. So far, no casualties and hope to keep it that way.
In my opinion, Polly's are a little harder because they're more picky about their watering. My Regal Shield and Low Rider Alocasia's do well even with slight neglect lol. Love your video! :)

I have one allocasia Polly, which seems to love me so I just ordered a zebrina, not knowing that Alocasias are sensitive-mine must love its space, but have only had it a couple of months-thanks for the tips! I’ll be picking up a water gauge before the new one arrives. I absolutely love my Polly....

I would say you were pretty spot on with your comment about getting the hang of your plant and it becoming easier. I have a Frydek on my work desk and it is thriving there!!! It’s a little dry because I don’t have a humidifier in my office so I do find I have to water it often.

I love Alocasia, but I'm not sure if it's too much of a diva for me, I haven't had the chance to try a common one yet, and I have seen these in my Home Depot, so we will see, I love your tips and your videos on care and different plants that are easy to care for and such. I bought a Polly to test how and if I could care for it. It has Yellow spots and you answered my question. I fine it difficult to know where to put my Alocacia and atm it is in the kitchen because it has the most humidity. I watch it like a Hawk and have moved it about a zillion times😂. I must say this is the most helpful (and inspiring) video on alocasias I found so far. Thank you! ☀️ My alocasia curly bambino died almost two months ago 😢 (initially I thought it went dormant, but it turned out that I overwatered it after it lost its leaves and it simply rotted away...), and I decided to wait with getting another alocasia until spring comes. Now - I'm tempted to try again, this time with A. Polly. I've never had any problems with my marantaceae plants so far * touch on wood * (I have 2 calatheas, 2 ctenanthes, 1 stromanthe, and 1 maranta) even though they're known for being difficult and finicky. Maybe I should give alocasia a second chance...

I hope you’re feeling better! I have 2 alocasia frydeks . They got spider mites at the end of last August because they were positioned next to a open southern window . I’m pretty sure they came in that way because my zz plant also got them positioned in another room with the window facing the same direction . I had my frydeks near a humidifier too. My point being the first thing I noticed were yellow spots scattered over some leaves. Later I saw webbing. They’ve been treated and quarantined. One is getting ready to bloom again so I hope they make it. I love your videos! Thanks!
Thank you for this! You are well-spoken and very thorough with your care tips. I agree with your comparison to sansevieria for potting tips. I think their rhizomes are similar. I have a polly/amazonica in a shallow pot and it's pushing up shoots like my sansevieria. And I made the mistake of thinking the polly was easy because they are so abundant in nurseries here in U.S. Almost lost it until I added the humidifier and watering more. It's a happier plant now. Looking forward to the next video-you have a great channel.
Thank you for actually talking about the alocasia zebrina! I recently bought one on clearance at my local hardware store, not realizing how much work it would take to keep it alive in my house during the winter, and I’ve had such a difficult time finding any useful tips on this particular plant. It’s still struggling a little, but I think once I buy a soil moisture meter and some grow lights it’ll perk up!

After caring for 43 house plants I decided for mothers day to take the leap and buy an Allocasia Black Velvet. I do have central air and the average humidity level is 40-55% in our home. Would she be happier in a terrarium?

I planted my Alocasia in my bog filter for my koi pond. 12” of pea gravel and water! In full sun. So far, it looks great! Thanks for the real how-to for when it comes inside for the winter though.

It's -40 here in Canada my alocasia ( I got a big Al too) just sprung a new leaf...so definitely not in dormancy haha I have no clue why it's doing so well
Hi fellow Canadian! All my plants are perking up in spite of the cold outside. I think it's because the days are starting to get longer and the sun (when it's out) is starting to feel warmer inside, if that makes sense.

Only certain ones go dormant . I've had my alocasia calidora for over 12 years , never went dormant .
It's all about what u provide ur plant with
@@deanna1904 Due to global warming, the heat from the sun is stronger now in February then it used to be, so even if it is -15 (Manitoba) the heat coming in the window is quite wonderful and I think the plants enjoy that.
Hey! Im also Canadian, but I live in the UK now. Maybe you can help me out. My mom and I are both really into houseplants and I want to send her a new plant (its tradition when Im home visiting to get her one). But Im not sure of the online plant market there as I got into plants while living here. I looked online to maybe send her a cutting, but etsy was lacking. Can you (or any other fellow Canadians in here recommend a good affordable online shop to send my mom a little something?

I grow all my alocasia outside here in Pensacola FL zone 9b I think??? I noticed that my new leafs always open during thunderstorms..... I hope this video doesn't scare anyone because my experience and opinion is this plant is very easy considering you check it daily and properly water and give it good light!!! Also it loves rain so put it outside in storms every now and then if the temperature is warm of course 60-90 Fahrenheit
This has been so helpful one of mine went totally dormant and I put it in a plastic bag on a heat mat and it's coming back when spring gets here I will take it out. I also did this to some of my other plants and they also are coming back 3 of them are the prayer plants I couldn't believe my eyes. Your awesome thanks.

I almost killed my huge alocasia zebrina that I bought in a multistore for 12€... It had like 12 majestic leaves and one by one they became yellow and I had to remove them. There were only 2 leaves left. They where the center ones and the bigger. Now I'm having a little baby leave from that one and I just bought a Amazonica and a Lauterchiana. I hope they survive! Thanks for this video! I thought my Alocasia had rotten roots because the leafs were turning yellow. I checked the roots but they weren't rotten, thankfully. Because of your video I think it might be inconsistent watering

Thank you so much for your video and alocasia care tips. By far yours is the most honest. I do struggle with finding the right timing of when to water . I’ve noticed my Alocasia Polly drinks a lot of water but has soft leaves. The moisture meter will show it’s on the dry side when I’ve just watered it 2 days ago. I’m new to alocasia and I will revisit this video every now and then. Thanks again

Thanks for making this video. I have what I believe is an African Mask alocasia and I’ve nearly lost it a couple of times now. I seems my house is just too cold and they go dormant in winter. I did have luck with planting it in a upright 40 gallon fish tank as an indoor terrarium. It really thrives in there. I moved it out because it got so big but I guess it’s time to move it back

It's quite interesting as a dope grower of 20 years who recently became obsessed with house plants, to see how the legit community do things. I've always considered myself a relatively successful grower, but the secrecy and need for fast turn over with weed has created a completely different method, having said that, all of the new techniques I've discovered in relation to house plants has drastically modified the way I go about growing my weed. Very interested to see how my new crop does, looking very promising so far.

My first alocasia was a Silver dragon. I bought it last year, in between there was winter, drop in temperatures, long periods without heating (because the landlord seems to be incompetent). It had one leaf unfurling as I got it, and it stuck there.
But as the building started to warm up again, the leaf opened finally (like in February this year). Since then I bought a black velvet, a cuprea red and a dragon scale for a bit longer. And now I also have an Azlani, a Polly and the tiniest frydek variegata that I hope to be able to grow.
The 4 that I have for a bit longer are all giving me new growth, they don't seem like they're suffering of anything at the moment (although I just sprayed them with neem oil because a calathea that was pretty close to them got pests, so to be sure, even if I didn't see any, I sprayed them too).
This morning, as the sun shone on the window, I had 30°C where they are, now we're back at 23°C. And I have an humidifier running all the time to keep the area humid (when it stops, it drops back super fast to 25% )
I guess there are plants that suits a person better. I mean, I managed to kill a philodendron scandens brasil, without any pest involved. But my alocasias are fine.
