    Purely as a tutorial, I think it's not a terrible idea...but what they should have done is had a 2nd set of cards that is archetypal to do the "intermediate" duel. Then can shuffle and play as you want with a prefab deck.

    Pokemon has a lot of success with it's 2-player sets. If you have more than one kid, there is massive appeal to parents to get them a 2-player game. whether that translates to them giving the game a shot, who knows. I think it's a step in the right direction.

    We need to be showing new players what a true modern YGO experience is like - we need one of these decks to have Desires in the opening hand, every copy of the deck’s most important 3-of starter located somewhere between cards 6-15, and 2 additional copies of Desires as cards 16 + 17 to draw into.

      $20? Well hopefully it remains that low so that people can have AN entry point to yu-gi-oh that doesn't involve, best case scenario, skydiving into the center of a deep lake and from there learning how to swim. At least here you're getting them to go towards the center slowly from the shore of the lake, so they aren't as likely to drown.

    This two player deck idea is a really cool concept. I hope they create more of these to explain other mechanics. Maybe they could have two more decks with Link and Pendulum monsters, then another one with Rituals and Fusions, then move on to more intermediate strategies and concepts. This also does another thing too. If you're an experienced player, you can inform them that Mannadium or Eldlich have their own strategies associated with them beyond this starter kit. Overall this is a good product. It's not for the competitive players, or even those looking for new reprints and stuff, because that's not the intention of this product.

The decks look way more competent than any of the older starter decks, and some of the reprints are really solid. Obviously, Zeus who's worth almost the cost of the decks alone, but Coral Dragon is another decent card. @telepathicdragon I'm gonna guess probably not. There's good cards in the decks like Edlitch, but most of the decks are too slow for modern yugioh. I'll maintain I think these decks look better than people are giving them credit for, and I'd 100% use these as a way to get friends into the card game. But if a friend wanted to bring a deck to locals I'd first try convincing them of the 3x structure deck method way before I tried 3x copies of these.

      But the idea isn't to necessarily show modern yu-gi-oh, but help build all of the understanding of yu-gi-oh's various things.
      It wouldn't have all those normal monsters at the start otherwise, nor, as you mentioned, all those older cards of lower powerlevel. Like yeah, magician of faith isn't the best currently, but they certainly are one of the more powerful cards in the earlier formats and certainly help you understand that flip monsters or effects can be strong and something to keep (if not as a priority) in consideration during a duel. And putting it way before the the scripted game goes into full swing is nice to give it a chance to actually do something and demonstrate the mechanic.

    • @KuroeNezumi
      @KuroeNezumi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      TBF synchro and xyz seem to be the hardest to understand for modern players (before pendulums) since they involve "more complex mechanics" (summing up levels while a specific kind of card -tuner- is on the field, stacking cards that match levels under another card and using those to activate certain effects) by comparison, but seeing how Primeheart and Zeus are on the decks to explain alternative ways to summon specific synchros (using specific materials, but not necessarily non-tuners) and xyz (overlaying on top of another xyz when particular conditions are met), maybe they ARE planning on doing a fusion vs link one...
      Or more likely, fusion vs ritual and pendulum vs link since the floors and possible ceilings on those pairs feel a bit more even that way.

    Honestly not a bad product for the premade beginner decks. I used it to get my girlfriend into the game. The practice duel is a bit stupid because she was just doing what the book said but wasn't sure why she was doing it. After she had a small understanding we did a real duel but I explained it. It worked fairly well and now she is using structure decks. We are dueling somewhere around the speeds of the 5Ds era, which is honestly great because meta yugioh is boring as hell.

    If the idea is to use this, then graduate to structures, that still feels kind of weird no? That means if a new player with no one else to help would like to try, they get this, which is $20, then they need 3 structures, which is another $36, which is a lot of money to tell new players to put up upfront. Don't get me wrong, I think the progression of more complicated mechanics is super neat for these two decks, but for a new player, these decks don't really feel substantial.

    This does misrepresent the game a bit in its simplicity, but I don't know how you can teach how the game actually is without scaring people away. I think they should release another one of these marketed for intermediate level or something that has scripted duels that feature some more complex combos, link summons, has hand traps, etc. Because while this is great, a new player cannot jump into modern Yu-Gi-Oh from this like the marketing implies.

    The people who are saying this is bad, either dont realize this isnt for them. Not every set is supposed to include new cards/reprints for high demand stuff. This is to teach new people the basics of Yu-Gi-Oh and provide a foundation for future explanations. Not be a one stop shot of everything and risk overcomplicating further than needed.
    I doubt people complaining about this set have tried to actually teach someone else this game because this is what ive done for my friends to introduce them since it's not hard to follow along, i know exactly what their hands are so i can guide them on what to do/what their cards do and matching a similarly powered deck will usually ensure some back and forth so they can feel engaged.

      @@RinsArc This the biggest hurdle to teaching someone Yu-Gi-Oh IS MODERN YU-GI-OH IS VERY COMPLEX to someone with no foreknowledge. Give someone the bare basics to build foundations on.
      You don't teach someone to draw by expecting them to draw an anatomically correct human. You tell them to build line confidence, how to construct shapes and basic perspective. Afterwards you move onto something slightly more complex.

  • @nox1910
    @nox1910 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I like the idea of it, and I think for a first-exposure, it's pretty good; but it's missing a lot of things, most notable being Fusion, Ritual, Link, and Pendulum monsters. Like, I don't have an issue with the cards themself not being very good (though, it does make it so you still pretty much need to start from scratch if you want to play beyond it), but only teaching 2 Extra Deck mechanics makes for a rather incomplete learning experience.
    Of course, this could be fixed by putting out another 2 player starter set, but then you'd need even more scripted duels or you'd need to let players try it on their own (which kind of defeats the point).

    This is one of my most anticipated products in the year since I need a good intro product for the newbies in my locals. The scripted duels certainly make my life a lot easier, and the 64 page comics instead of ever-thickening rule book is a step in the right direction. That being said....that comics is still intermediating since they really need to to avoid huge wall of texts as much as possible, and hire a competent mangaka to make the booklet even more visually appealing.
    I sincerely hope NO ONE (scalpers I am looking at you) just buys this deck for ZUES, we need this product for teaching the beginners!

      @@ClarkieReidri Why put cards in that not only do other things besides normal and tribute summon and locks you out from the remainder of the deck? Now, you would have to teach them what the banish zone is, or that sometimes monsters have effects, and sometimes those effects activate when they're summoned, and effects that activate from the banish zone. Then, you'd also have to explain that sometimes, when resolving effects, they might lock you from a specific mechanic, like Special Summoning. Whereas, you can just put a handful of vanillas that don't do anything and have them digest it easier.

Yes great new players coming in with a simple method to play always helps but these feel very false advertising with the random Zeus, Eldlich and Visas Starfrost in the mix. If it were me, id give them a structure deck of an archetype that fits a combo strategy with a simple combo line(say invoked or any anime deck) and 1 control style deck with simple to understand spells and traps to teach them how its played in a modern sense.
