can you program the apu to start at midday and run for 1 hour? should keep the batteries from draining and shouldn't disturb the neighbours too much. it's not just heat and cold that kills batteries, it's also running them flat. unless they are a deep cycle battery, running them flat kills their lifespan.

Somebody saw you coming... I signed up with Motive (for Highway) at the end of July. I chose the annual payment option and it was $561.60. Told them all I wanted was an ELD with WEB portal that Highway could access. No dashcam, no hotspot... just the ELD with WEB portal.
Sounds like the ELD mandate is getting a kickback from those demanding the brand. No other justification I can think of for numerous brokers to demand a specific service.

Justin suggestions: sell lake property, buy a farm with a barn or shop space. Then you can gradually start working on trucks for people and have a farm for your family for generations. You would have space and opportunity for more content and you could still drive the truck.

I voluntarily have a ELD in my truck that I pay for yearly. And I have not lost any business at all over not being able to work with brokers. Strange how that works.
Do you truck across country or do you just truck in your own back yard? Just wondering? My dad was a trucker and was never home when he was providing for me and my mom when I was growing up. He was driving real miles until he retired.
I drove real miles the first two years and then had to rebuild my engine with my own two hands. Now I’ve put myself in a position that I own all the equipment and have low expenses at home so I just make the easy low elevation runs to Florida and back, but I worked for it in the beginning

It's a shame that you would have to go get like. They used to do smoke in the band it was a blocker for the truck and now you're not going to have to get someone and a back in a car and in an an airport, watch whatever love did you have the opposite of smoking and abandoned? Plaid is a verification service I've used it before , not for trucking stuff. As far as Highway, yeah it sucks to have to do that, but can't that be written off on your business taxes at the end of the year?

Nobody is forcing you or intruding on anything by having a Eld in your truck. They are 100% voluntary. So don’t be misled that you are forced to put in your truck. They offer a service, and if you would like to buy it, you can
Don't go with motive they lock you in to a contract and everytime you add a truck or anything you buy from them it'll increases their contract, im paying over $2000 a year for a 2 truck set up even though im back to a 1 truck operation. The customer service you cant hardly understand them

Samsara is junk. They need to upgrade the speed limits of many streets here in the USA. You drive at or under the posted speed limit, then the Samsara will lower your driving score stating you were severely traveling over the speed limit which could raise your insurance premium. Especially in the West, there are many streets that the posted street limit used to be 35 and now is 45, 50 became 55, and 55 became 65. Complained to Samsara many times, but they don't care. All they care about is money.
It's a numbers game. $1700 over 5 years is $8500. Let's say Justin wants to put another truck on the road for 5 years. That's now $17,000 for something that presently costs him nothing. Also it's about them knowing where he is. If the brokers know where every single truck is 24/7, they will alter the rates to suit themselves and I guarantee you, it's the owner drivers who will lose out. It's mission creep, they're taking more and more and giving less and less. Fuel, insurance and maintenance prices only go up.

Could you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and brokers had to pay a monthly premium per truck just so drivers would consider pulling loads for them. The brokers would be fighting tooth and nail to bring back paper logs. What next after everyone has what ever eld brokers decided to make mandatory will drivers have to have their maintenance done at specific shops that the broker mandates for you to get loads to make sure you will not break down. At what point will this stop or is this just a bunch of control freaks getting their rocks off. It seems like maybe there needs to be an industry standard for onboarding for brokers and drivers alike. And if this is all about fraud what is hi-way going to do if the broker doesn’t pay? So maybe onboarding needs to be heavily regulated to insure the broker and the driver are who they say they are and they are operating in good standing (insurance,bonds,and so on are valid. It can’t be that hard if mvc can check if your insurance is valid with a click of a button) because what does a name on an eld have to do with solving any fraud problems? if it did they would never bypass the eld requirement? So are these the type of people you really want to do business with at the end of the day? 1 Timothy 1:9 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it legitimately. Hi Justin, while a class action lawsuit might seem like a solution, is Highway the correct company?. I don't know who is starting this, but hopefully, they have looked at the trucking landscape from a 10,000 ft level. Why did someone start the company: "Highway App, Inc.," which is known as Highway. Fraud and theft were going through the roof, and someone figured that RMIS and other carrier onboarding tools were not thorough enough. Highway's customers are freight brokers. Many freight brokers had carrier onboarding companies; why have so many brokers changed to Highway? In 2024, FreightWaves named Highway the top FreightTech company, recognizing the company's leadership in fraud prevention and carrier identity management. When theft and fraud became a significant issue, many states were cutting funding for officers to investigate, and the biggest culprit for not doing their due diligence has been the FMCSA. It was proven that several MC#'s were issued or bought, and all used the same address. Didn't the FMCSA think that was suspicious? When freight theft was on the rise, who stepped up to help stop or reduce the issue? Where are all the trucking associations, FMCSA, and state investigation teams? Remember, the ELD compliance is only one way they are vetting carriers. All carriers have the right to not share your ELD. However, independent contractor broker agents like owner-operators want to move their customers' freight. The broker who has the customer credit risk and pays the carriers had to implement these strict vetting processes due to the bad carriers' double brokering, stealing loads, and holding loads hostage. Highway is just a tech service with a solution brokers were seeking. Freight brokers are not required to use, but currently, they are the best vetting company vs any other current services. If anyone is going to create a lawsuit for lost income, it better be against the party who did not change to prevent and stop these bad carriers, ie the FMCSA. If paying for an ELD and sharing your location does not fit your business, any carrier can go directly to shippers for loads or find brokers who are not using Highway. My thoughts are that a class action lawsuit against Highway could be a waste of money. I am no lawyer; therefore, an expensive lawyer would need to review and confirm who the correct party is to create a class action lawsuit against. Just perspective from a freight broker agent since 2008. We appreciate your channel to start a discussion around various supply chain issues.

Just saying, brokers been hitting up companies, demanding company drivers download app and allow tracking as well. To which I never do. It's called prerequisite or else the broker doesn't pay as much. Great so the company can get me a load, without paying me extra. Nah. I don't allow tracking.
Justin, I am with you on the highway ELD BS! I also have been using a garmin eLD for the past three years, and have also lost a couple loads from brokers because its not compatible with highway. It IS a principle thing and is outrageous to me to be forcing carriers to use expensive paid third party services to be in compliance with a government mandate! It is also a tool for the brokers to data mine and gather truck information that they have no rights to, pure data mining for their benefit and an additional revenue loss for us O/O. In these difficult times we carriers do not need more burdens and disadvantages in the trucking industry! There are simple and free ways to verify carrier legitimacy, how anyone can say its not extortion and a form of cronyism is lying and we should not simply fold to their demands. if there is a Class action suite against highway I would gladly join!
What data do you think Highway is "mining" that damages legitimate carriers being transparent about their business practices? Fradulant insurance or uninsured equipment, old MCs purchased by somebody overseas, freight fradulantly put on the rail vs. run OTR, not to mention rampant double brokering with a network of related MCs, list continues on forever - what free and legitimate methods cover all of that? I agree, great owner ops being punished because others can't behave. But ultimately, brokers not vetting fully & being greedy is what gave us this level of fraud in the industry & small trucking companies are by far hurt the most - if anything, the transparency makes reputable and trustworthy carriers on the small side stand out.

After a little research,I doubt its the shipper that requires highway. Highway is most likely giving kickbacks to the brokers.

Nobody is forcing you or intruding on anything by having a Eld in your truck. They are 100% voluntary. So don’t be misled that you are forced to put in your truck. They offer a service, and if you would like to buy it, you can
Don't go with motive they lock you in to a contract and everytime you add a truck or anything you buy from them it'll increases their contract, im paying over $2000 a year for a 2 truck set up even though im back to a 1 truck operation. The customer service you cant hardly understand them

Samsara is junk. They need to upgrade the speed limits of many streets here in the USA. You drive at or under the posted speed limit, then the Samsara will lower your driving score stating you were severely traveling over the speed limit which could raise your insurance premium. Especially in the West, there are many streets that the posted street limit used to be 35 and now is 45, 50 became 55, and 55 became 65. Complained to Samsara many times, but they don't care. All they care about is money.
You can say what you want but bottom line is I've never been rejected a load because an ELD and you can take that to the bank with you sir

It's a numbers game. $1700 over 5 years is $8500. Let's say Justin wants to put another truck on the road for 5 years. That's now $17,000 for something that presently costs him nothing.
Also it's about them knowing where he is. If the brokers know where every single truck is 24/7, they will alter the rates to suit themselves and I guarantee you, it's the owner drivers who will lose out.
It's mission creep, they're taking more and more and giving less and less. Fuel, insurance and maintenance prices only go up.

Could you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and brokers had to pay a monthly premium per truck just so drivers would consider pulling loads for them. The brokers would be fighting tooth and nail to bring back paper logs. What next after everyone has what ever eld brokers decided to make mandatory will drivers have to have their maintenance done at specific shops that the broker mandates for you to get loads to make sure you will not break down. At what point will this stop or is this just a bunch of control freaks getting their rocks off.
It seems like maybe there needs to be an industry standard for onboarding for brokers and drivers alike. And if this is all about fraud what is hi-way going to do if the broker doesn’t pay? So maybe onboarding needs to be heavily regulated to insure the broker and the driver are who they say they are and they are operating in good standing (insurance,bonds,and so on are valid. It can’t be that hard if mvc can check if your insurance is valid with a click of a button) because what does a name on an eld have to do with solving any fraud problems? if it did they would never bypass the eld requirement? So are these the type of people you really want to do business with at the end of the day?

Hi Justin, while a class action lawsuit might seem like a solution, is Highway the correct company?. I don't know who is starting this, but hopefully, they have looked at the trucking landscape from a 10,000 ft level. Why did someone start the company: "Highway App, Inc.," which is known as Highway. Fraud and theft were going through the roof, and someone figured that RMIS and other carrier onboarding tools were not thorough enough. Highway's customers are freight brokers. Many freight brokers had carrier onboarding companies; why have so many brokers changed to Highway? In 2024, FreightWaves named Highway the top FreightTech company, recognizing the company's leadership in fraud prevention and carrier identity management. When theft and fraud became a significant issue, many states were cutting funding for officers to investigate, and the biggest culprit for not doing their due diligence has been the FMCSA. It was proven that several MC#'s were issued or bought, and all used the same address. Didn't the FMCSA think that was suspicious? When freight theft was on the rise, who stepped up to help stop or reduce the issue? Where are all the trucking associations, FMCSA, and state investigation teams? Remember, the ELD compliance is only one way they are vetting carriers. All carriers have the right to not share your ELD. However, independent contractor broker agents like owner-operators want to move their customers' freight. The broker who has the customer credit risk and pays the carriers had to implement these strict vetting processes due to the bad carriers' double brokering, stealing loads, and holding loads hostage. Highway is just a tech service with a solution brokers were seeking. Freight brokers are not required to use, but currently, they are the best vetting company vs any other current services. If anyone is going to create a lawsuit for lost income, it better be against the party who did not change to prevent and stop these bad carriers, ie the FMCSA. If paying for an ELD and sharing your location does not fit your business, any carrier can go directly to shippers for loads or find brokers who are not using Highway. My thoughts are that a class action lawsuit against Highway could be a waste of money. I am no lawyer; therefore, an expensive lawyer would need to review and confirm who the correct party is to create a class action lawsuit against. Just perspective from a freight broker agent since 2008. We appreciate your channel to start a discussion around various supply chain issues.

Just saying, brokers been hitting up companies, demanding company drivers download app and allow tracking as well. To which I never do. It's called prerequisite or else the broker doesn't pay as much. Great so the company can get me a load, without paying me extra. Nah. I don't allow tracking.

Justin, I am with you on the highway ELD BS! I also have been using a garmin eLD for the past three years, and have also lost a couple loads from brokers because its not compatible with highway.
It IS a principle thing and is outrageous to me to be forcing carriers to use expensive paid third party services to be in compliance with a government mandate! It is also a tool for the brokers to data mine and gather truck information that they have no rights to, pure data mining for their benefit and an additional revenue loss for us O/O. In these difficult times we carriers do not need more burdens and disadvantages in the trucking industry! There are simple and free ways to verify carrier legitimacy, how anyone can say its not extortion and a form of cronyism is lying and we should not simply fold to their demands.

What data do you think Highway is "mining" that damages legitimate carriers being transparent about their business practices? Fradulant insurance or uninsured equipment, old MCs purchased by somebody overseas, freight fradulantly put on the rail vs. run OTR, not to mention rampant double brokering with a network of related MCs, list continues on forever - what free and legitimate methods cover all of that? I agree, great owner ops being punished because others can't behave. But ultimately, brokers not vetting fully & being greedy is what gave us this level of fraud in the industry & small trucking companies are by far hurt the most - if anything, the transparency makes reputable and trustworthy carriers on the small side stand out.
