Skyrc D200neo Part 2: Balance charging issue (undercharge)

  • In this video I get into the details of an issue I found with my SkyRC D200neo ac/dc charger I bought coupled with the BD350 discharger. I bought both of these new products at rcjuice.com.
I was looking for a small charger I could put in my toolbox that had the capability for high current charging and discharging. What I found is this charger would cut off too quick from a charge cycle leaving the battery slightly under charged. Might be fine for hobby use but not if you want it to charge to an exact voltage.
I sent this video to skyrc for review, which is why is is so long. I wanted them to see the full charge cycle but it clearly shows the charger did not fully charge the battery.

This is normal, but thanks for showing how the D200neo balances. It only took 5 minutes once it reached the max voltage, which is very good, and it stopped at 10% of the max charge current, which is also a good point to end the charge.

A lot of chargers do this set end volt to 4.37 or 4.38 and it will drop right where you want it

Regarding the drop in voltage after charging, my iChargers (406duo and 4010duo) do the same. I charge 2S packs to 4.2v per cell, usually at 1C rate. The charger stops at 4.2v per cell but the voltage drops back 20 to 50 mV after the charge stops. I don’t think this is significant performance wise for your car/truck etc.

My ISDT T8 charger does not do this under volt charge. When I charge to a set volt it charges exactly to it, and when I store to a set volt it stores exactly to it. I see the charger will back off the amps and see if the volts drop, then apply the amps for a bit and then check again. I thought all chargers did this to charge a lipo and am surprised this charger doesn't.

I noticed that the charger cut of when the charge current hit 2A, or 10% of the nominal charge current. Maybe you could charge your pack at 6A and see if the end voltage is closer to the expected voltage?

@@malkie0831 Agree, the less amps you charge at the closer it gets to the specific cut off voltage. The irony is charging at low amos defeats the purpose of a high amp charger that can charge at 35 amps.

Doesn’t the battery say max charge rate of 3C? With a 6400mah pack, that would be 19.2 amps, so you are slightly over 3C charging at 20A

it's not an issue from Skyrc d200 neo, it's because of LiHV batteries. I have SkyRC Q200 Neo which works like a charm. LiHV is another type of Lipo battery. It recommended not to charge it too much for long gevity.

I am starting to think it may be something with this charger. I don't think its anything to do with this pack. I have charged this battery lots of times with my ISDT T8 in both Lipo and Lihv mode with all kinds of amp settings (5A-20A) and it charges and balances fine. Same with storage, the ISDT T8 puts the pack into storage volt with no problems while this D200neo takes at least 4 tries. Interesting that the Q200 works fine as I would assume its the same firmware. Is it possible you could reply with the firmware number so I can compare? This charger uses firmware v1.52

My charger is using the latest firmware. The model is Q200 Neo, a little different from yours. The firmware version is 2.57@@lawton70

Is it possible to charge a car battery with this device?

    • @lawton70
      @lawton70  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I gave it a try to charge my full size car battery. The charger defaulted to 6s(12v) but it wouldn't charge the battery. It seemed to need the balance board hooked up. One thing I thought of after is maybe I needed to change the number of cells.

@@dualtrondreamteam6811 my plan was to get this with the 40a discharger and be set for a charger for a while. But the storage is even worse than the charging. I have to run a storage discharge 4-5 times before it gets to storage volt because it is so inaccurate.

I bought myself SkyRC B6 Neo for the battery charge of 18650, unfortunately this wretched charger charges them by only 70%. This is thrown out money and I will dissuade everyone from the purchase of this brand :(

Skyrc sells all kinds of electronics that work great. I agree that with their charger line its hit and miss. There are quite a few videos on the B6 neo failing.

What was the mAh of the pack that only charges 70%? My suspicion is the chargers can charge the high mAh packs properly.
