    This week’s film breakdown analyzes the New York Jets Rookie Quarterback Zach Wilson. Statistically, Wilson struggled in his first year and the Jets went just 4-13, but there was a turning point in the season that doesn't show up in the stat sheet that provides hope moving forward. What was that moment and can Wilson and the Jets translate it into success in 2022? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson.

      I hate to keep posting but I'm trying to be realistic to you guys after 41 years of following this team. cut your ties with Zack Wilson now it'll cause you a lot less pain later just look at him does he look like an NFL quarterback look at him compared to Trevor Lawrence look at him compared to Justin fields are compared to to jail and hurts does he look like he has an NFL body that will hold up by getting hit by 280 lb lineman especially the way he likes to run around. the guy was a total Boomer bus guy he was going to come in and set the league on fire or he was going to be a total bust unfortunately Douglas took the chance he should have took fields and it's a fucking shame in Chicago sucks if the Jets had fields I wouldn't be surprised if they could put up eight or nine wins this year

      last thing I mean really what's the mystery on Wilson what is the Big damn mystery of why he's not succeeding in the NFL? I said it back in December that he was a stupid pic to take in the top five or even taking the top 10 or even taking the first round. you're going to use the number two overall pick on a guy from a second grade school like BYU who didn't even want to give him a scholarship whose first two years there were utterly average and only his third year during a pandemic where a lot of players sat out and didn't take the season seriously on top of it if you look at some of their games that year BYU's offensive line was so much better then who they played Wilson never got hit he could stand back there and just wait until the receiver became open why do you think his first comments after the first game was I can't believe it moves this fast because it didn't move fast like that at BYU he can order a fucking pizza and still have time to throw a completion. they play Jackson State, they play Navy they played army they played alcorn State they played coastal Carolina and Boise State they didn't play Alabama they didn't play Clemson in Ohio State and Louisiana and Notre Dame and USC how the hell do you compare a quarterback that played such lesser competition because he looks good and shorts and a t-shirt and could throw a ball to an unguarded receiver 80 yards down the field running to his right he could throw it to his left that's why they're going to take them number two I'm going to tell you right now that means absolutely nothing. I don't know if you're old enough but if you remember a guy named Jeff George or JaMarcus Russell those guys could throw it 100 yd from the line of scrimmage they were both number one overall pics and we're both out of league in 5 years it does not make a difference how far you could throw the fucking ball Zack Wilson hopefully he'll find some kind of and one for football players where they throw the frick passes and whatnot but he's not in NFL star have any kind

      change my mind on Douglas he's a good GM he just missed on the quarterback he fell in love with that arm but he didn't look at the whole body and how fragile it was and buses never going to be any good and if he ever steps back on the field he's going to get hurt again

    I feel like expectations for him are low because he is on the jets, wasn’t a household name in college, and didn’t ball statistically his rookie year which is all the more reason I love him as a player. He is a special talent and I hope he can utilize his skills to show everyone that.

I think the rookie staff also put him to the fire a little early with every play being two plays in one with the checks. That being said it may speed up his development because now in year two that won't be a new concept for him and instead of thinking he can let his natural abilities takeover. Excited for Zach and god do I hope he's the answer we deserve.

And not to mention that backfield with now Breece hall and Carter. Jets are in a great spot for their future. And the defense is coming along great. It’s all in Zacks hands now. The last couple years the Jets have been recognized as one of the worst teams in the NFL who get blown out consistently, so their schedule absolutely does them justice. The NFL schedule rewards winning or signing superstar qbs like Brady or Russ Wilson, not smart drafting or “potential winning”. If the Jets make the playoffs next year they will get a better schedule. If anything, the fact that the NFL can’t even justify putting a New York team with a massive market on prime time more than once should tell you how bad the Jets have been these past couple of years. The last 2 years of Jets football have arguably been the worst in franchise history, and talent on paper means nothing without results on the field. So their schedule is absolutely justified. The jets finally have a culture now. FA actually want to play there now. Jets OL was good last year until they all got injured one by one last year. Then Cory Davis got hurt. Then their young stud Carter got hurt. The only playmaker was Moore. And on defense they had Lawson who didn’t even make it through pre season and tore his ACL. Things happen. But they have everything figured out. They addressed everything they needed this offseason. They just have to pray the injury bugs don’t kill them before the train even moves.
      And that’s not how the schedule works buddy 😂 everyone from the conference plays the same teams with some exceptions. NFL doesn’t handpick any schedule of teams they play… it’s basically a cycle. They’ll always play the same teams every 4 years or so. The jets just got the short end of the stick this year playing some of the toughest divisions like the AFC north and they still have to deal with their own division.
      And it’s not even that the jets aren’t good as a team… it’s just that the AFC improved along with them. No one said it’s going to be easy or a hand out but the point is that almost every team in the AFC has it together or has a generational or top talent. Burrow, Lamar, Watson , Allen, patriots are always plotting, the Steelers are a winning franchise, the dolphins will be pretty good. The AFC south has dominate game changing RB’s and jacksonville can spark something. Denver now has Russ, Carr has Adams, Herbert, and of course mahomes. The jets rebuilt and are a better team no question. They probably haven’t had this great of a roster in a long time. Only thing that they can improve on is safety. They just so happened to rebuild when everyone in the AFC got stronger. They’ll definitely be good within the coming years. This year will be growing pains facing these tough opponents but it’s only going to get them better and form better chemistry. Everyone in the facility is young. they have time on their hands other teams don’t…

      This! With the schedule! How have the Jets org not made a protest about this. I’m not talking about teams that are good every now and again, teams like Ravens, Steelers, Packers, and Broncos are usually a bet to be good and they end up on the Jets schedule every year

As a long suffering Jets fan and there are millions of us -- for the first time; actually, one of the only times since I was a wee lad that I, many of us Jets fans feel they have everything in place. GM, Coach, OC, QB, you could even throw a checkmark next to the Shanahan System. So, yuppp, really feel they are ready to take off, reach destination playoffs in a year or so and built young for sustained success.

    Zach is the 2nd-year QB I'm most looking forward to watching! To all the points you made about him, I'd also add that the Shanahan-based offense they run under Mike LaFleur is super wordy and tough to completely comprehend as a rookie, and that his splits vs. man/zone are pretty crazy, as opposing teams started to man up in so many key situations, particularly when missing his top two WRs, and he would just keep holding onto the ball whilst his targets simply couldn't break open.
    So with another year in the system and a pristine route-runner in Garrett Wilson, I expect a major jump. He has to learn to find his check-downs late and find answers to pressure more quickly, understanding where his oulets are, but there's a lot to like here, if he can become a more mature decision-maker!

      Great analysis. Also against man, he started to run a lot more starting in the Jacksonville game. The week after, TB actually went to more zone after studying that tape and Wilson carved them.
      I would expect more man to man with their schedule next year, so don’t be surprised if Wilson puts up some rushing yards this year. He put on a ton of muscle in his legs this off-season for this reason

    I love Zach I think he’s gonna be a top 5 to 10 QB in the league in a year or 2 his stats are like Josh Allen’s rookie stats and they’re both similar so I think the jets have something special going on and the fact that one of Zach’s favorite players is Matt Ryan means he’ll be great

    • @Johnsons97
      @Johnsons97 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the passing stats are similar but Allen had 630 rushing yards in 12 games whereas Wilson had 185 in 13 games, and a look at Wilson’s game logs shows that he was an non-threat running the ball outside of an outlier Jaguars game that accounts for almost half of his yardage. Allen’s rushing stats his first 4 years are almost identical to Cam Newton’s first 4 years and as a rookie Allen was special as a runner but wasn’t given enough credit. Allen still isn’t recognized enough as an elite dual threat qb, and teams comparing their rookie qbs passing stats to rookie Allen while disregarding rushing stats lacks an understanding of why Allen is special. Zach Wilson is not Josh Allen as a scrambler and won’t average 500 rushing yards and 8 rushing tds a year. I think Wilson has the potential to throw 4000+ and 30+ tds like elite qbs, but I don’t see similarities in Wilson and Allen at all. Wilson is 6’2 215 pounds and Allen is 6’5 235 pounds. Wilson has no track record as a consistent running qb whereas Allen was an elite rushing qb statistically as a rookie and has maintained that while his passing stats increased

    If only the NFL could finally realize that not counting all pass completions, regardless of which team the player who catches the ball is is actually on, is super unfair to guys like Wilson. The stat nerds, AKA the guys who enjoy tugging one out to the mental image of a Ti-84, keep saying Wilson sucks because his completion percentage is low, but film guys, all of whom are sexually active, know that when Wilson throws the ball it’s almost always going to be caught by someone. What’s even more impressive is that most of the time the guy who catches the ball is one of his teammates. I never see the haters acknowledge the fact that Wilson leads the NFL in TD passes to Jets players.

    I've been a Jets fan for 4 decades four decades I've been through Richardson I've been through Pat Ryan I've been through Chad Pennington I've been through Bryce Petty I've been through a Lucas I had a couple of good years with any Testaverde but for the most part quarterback position has been a disaster. in 1983 the Jets could have changed their fortunes forever instead they took a no-name quarterback at a Cal State Fullerton named Ken O'Brien when the consensus pick and actually the number to pick in the draft would have been in Reno but there was unfounded lies going around about him using cocaine which were totally false so the just do it they just did they passed on them left them for Miami and they suffered for 15 years getting killed by him. I just want to quickly say that by not making that picking 83 the NFC has some tough teams in 83 but with Marino at quarterback the Jets would have been no fucking joke they had a suffocating sack exchange defense they had Aaron Glen in I believe in Glen and the safety position he hit hard they did not hit softly they could play with those guys I don't know about the 85 bears but they could play with the other guys. then you insert Dan Marino with Wesley Walker and Altoona and Mickey shuler and something he never had his entire career a bona fide 1400 yd a year running back Freeman McNeil. you think it's some kind of coincidence that John elway didn't win his two Super bowls until Terrell suggs came out of nowhere and started rushing for 2000 yards? if he didn't do that elway would have retire with no Super bowls also. if the Jets would have picked Marino he probably would have won three or four with me on the background in the backfield. but enough of that
    I want to talk about who's their quarterback now and how they made the worst mistake they possibly can make they fell into every media trap possible and I thought Joe Douglas was smarter than that and he operated the rest of his drafts more than that he had a good draft but he fell head over heels into Zack Wilson who proved nothing. what the hell did he really prove that in shorts and a t-shirt he can run to the right and throw 80 yards to the left. when game day came he's at the bottom of the league in every statistical category imaginable he did not look like an NFL quarterback and not does not change he's not going to go from that to a superstar in one year he's going to be horrible again next year. the worst thing that ever happened to the Jets was losing out on Trevor Lawrence if they had the team they have right now if Salah would have put the team together he had right now but Trevor Lawrence was the quarterback they beheaded places in the next 15 years Zack Wilson he'll be lucky to hang out as a backup. and I'm honestly I believe this is his last year he's going to suck so badly this year they're going to run them out of town. what the Jets need to do seeing for the next 15 years they're going to be facing Herbert, borough, Watson, Lawrence, Mahomes etc the Jets only have one avenue left open to them to allow them to actually make some noise and AFC if they go toe to toe with these guys good luck finding a quarterback that's going to outscore these motherfuckers they're not and Zack Wilson most definitely is not.
    the good thing is we have a defensive coach and I've seen tape of him on the sideline he's a smash in your mouth tough as nails defensive coordinator that's who we need as our quarterback that's why I need it as our coach and what he has to do Douglas took care of the offense last year he has a lot of pics coming up this year this year he has to add to the defense Gardner was a good start he's a big cornerback he's locked down cornerback but they need a big safety that receivers are going to think twice before coming off the over the middle they need a defense that's going to smack you in the mouth and the wide receivers and tight ends are going to feel it every time they go over the middle that's the only way you could beat these prolific offenses and it's been proven time and time again that they will beat these prolific offenses. just look a couple years ago Tampa Bay against Kansas City Tampa Bay chased my homes all over the field and made him look like an average Quarterback who couldn't even throw for a single touchdown and they got massacred, what about the Super Bowl between Seattle and the pot and Peyton Manning he threw for 50 something touchdowns that year you put a good defense or a great defense on the other side an offense is never going to beat that great defense. it goes back to the Giants beating Patriots twice how do you think they beat the Patriots twice Michael Strahan and company harassed Tom Brady the whole game believe me he felt every single hit and by the end of the game he was done and that's why they won. so that's what the Jets have to do they got to build up they got to get some big in your face tough as nails I don't care if I break my break the rules somebody like Burkett I don't even know if I'm pronouncing his name right birth cat he was on Cincinnati and he got so many finds but they need someone like that that'll take someone's head off. the Jets can only win the AFC one single way and it's not outscoring the competition

Denzel men's is almost the first round pick he's a 4340 guy that could jump out of the building you saw it at the end of 2020 and he was the only reason the Jets don't have Trevor Lords right now because when he came back is when the Jets won the games it's when Sam started looking better and got some confidence had someone to throw you. what's going to happen the Jets are going to trade men's for a fifth round draft pick and Mims is going to be coming all pro guarantee it because the Jets do it all the time and what was Silas excuse he asked to play special teams the keyshawn Johnson ever play special teams did Terrell Owens ever play special teams did Randy Moss ever play special teams give me a fucking break

  • @PC-ji8op

    I started out writing a post about the Jets fortunes and what they can do to actually be a competitive team over the next 15 years and I got sidetracked it's my fault. this is how it goes with the Jets. they are actually building a defense that if everything breaks right and they don't hit a lot of injuries and a lot of these guys pan out carlawson comes back and provides defensive pressure on the quarterback Jermaine Jackson provides also provides pressure on the quarterback Marcus May places regular defense and source Gardner becomes the best defensive back in the league one of the biggest one of the hardest hitting and someone that quarterbacks just do not throw towards sound familiar? how about Revis Island 2. if Garner is what he's showing out to be I don't know if it'll be as good as Darrelle Revis because of my mind those couple of years where he was the best quarterback in the league those for just for those years he played that position better than anybody played their position in the history of football. can source Gardner play it better we're about to see but he doesn't have to play it better all he's got to be is the best defensive back in the league which he can be who's the best now Jalen Ramsey he could be better in Rasy, Gardner can be at the Reavis Island 2.0. people don't get it but the real Rivas and those two teams that went to the NFC Championship game and one game away for the Super Bowl the real Rivas was the most important player on both those teams you know why? because Rex Ryan just stuck them out there against the best receiver told Darrell lock them down and Darrell did the guy came off the field was 17 yards three catches did nothing every week which meant Rex only had to account for half the field they had Antonio cromartie and he had safety help so what the Jets have to do is get another serviceable cornerback if they can grab a big safety like a can Jordan kind of guy I think that was his name for Seattle that hard hitter over the middle they got to build a smack you in the mouth these wide receivers feel everything before they even get hit they need a safety that if someone comes off the middle like they'll do a Ronnie Lott and take his head off. Douglas had all the capital last year he stopped the offense this is the defenses here they got a lot on defense now if he makes Smart pics I see no reason why the Jets cannot be headed for a top 10 defense. and if you don't think defenses win Super bowls if you think you need a hot tie octane offense to win a Super Bowl you haven't been paying attention. what about Seattle against against Denver couple years ago. Peyton Manning was a machine if you watch that team against any other team and you could not talk yourself into any conceivable way the Seahawks win that game. but the Seahawks punched Denver in the mouth and Denver never recovered and he got killed. I'll go on to the Super Bowl with Casey against San Francisco you had a far superior offense with Casey and you had a stellar defense with 49ers and the 49ers were a single throw away from winning that Super Bowl forget Patrick Mahomes in the second dynasty will he catch Brady now he's sitting on one ring and I'll never win another one again. and he shouldn't have won that one all it was was a hail Mary to Tyree kill that happened to come down in his hands luck, but another example of a defense taking it to a high powered offense. how do you think the Giants and inferior team by far beat the Patriots twice in the Super Bowl it was because Michael Strahan and company Chase Brady all over the goddamn field and when they hit him he felt it by the fourth quarter he didn't want anything to do with that defensive line. can you go back to teams like the early 2000 Ravens and they didn't even have a quarterback I remember his name they didn't need a quarterback their defense was so good or the early 2000 Tampa Bay buccaneers is defense was so good they also didn't need a quarterback I forget who their quarterback was too non notable. so let these teams have Herbert, and Watson and borrow and my homes and Jackson and Lawrence and let's knock them in the fucking mouth and beat their ass.
    the Jets have a makings of the next 49ers they got the defensive coach he's head coach they have the makings of a killer backfield if it's developed correctly Michael Carter Jr is a great second back and they supposedly picked up the best best back in the draft last year they can make those two guys into work horses eating of clock while the defense just pummels the fucking offense this could work better than anything else I guarantee you if they try to go toe to toe especially if they try to go toe to toe exact Wilson they're going to get their heads handed to them. what they need to do is play the year out with Jack it's trending clearly that Zack is not the guy he slide a build he's injury prone even when he is an angry ponies absolutely horrible he doesn't belong in the NFL uniform he was a reach to begin with that number two Justin field should have been picked at that pic and it really pisses me off that he wasn't because if you had Justin fields on that team right now with the talent they brought in I'd be excited about this year either Lawrence or Fields but now Wilson is never going to be a good NFL quarterback just look at on me he looks like a backstreet boy stuck in an NFL uniformed.
    so we have to go suffer through another four winds season where we see Zack Wilson make absolutely no progress and Joe Flacco actually play better and then we have to focus on the draft and we got to stock our defense and we got a hit on those pics this is a lot on Joe Douglas but if he can accomplish this if he could put this team together even though he missed on the quarterback he'll be the toast of the town for a long long time. and the pic of sauce Gardener oh my god the guy hasn't let off a preseason touchdown he also didn't let a touchdown his entire 4 years of college I mean is this guy fucking human. all I see is another Darrelle Revis stick them on Randy Moss and Randy will have four catches for 16 yards it's in human I hope that's what it is if we only have to shut out half the field makes our defense of coordinators task a lot easier

    zach Wilson's biggest problems are accuracy and even bigger, decision making. you can have as strong of an arm as anyone or be as great of an athlete as anyone, but if you're throwing the ball to a guy that has a defender directly between you and the receiver, things aren't going to go well, and that has nothing to do with you're line or receivers around you. if you watch most of his interceptions from 2021, there is a defender less than 2 feet in front of his receiver, which is exactly what he did in the preseason game this year too, threw it right to a linebacker in front of a receiver that already had a db all over him, and all reports said he had the same struggles throughout camp this year, so clearly decision making hasn't improved, until he learns how to not throw to covered receivers, he's not gonna be great

      Totally agree! I did a video after the first four weeks and it was a literal nightmare, but it got way way better. That offense is very challenging to master and I would imagine installing it as a first time OC would be super difficult as well

  • @ZionsDenn
    @ZionsDenn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Basically, he was bad because he was learning the offense at a rapid pace which I think is ok for your franchise QB to do because if he struggles you still have him for a long time. On top of that he has to develop as a QB which isnt easy to do in the nfl and he showed signs of being able to take advantage of a technique that would be harder to learn for younger QBs. His upside is that he has a lot of time to develop as they continue to put the right pieces around him. The good thing for Zach Wilson is he wasnt the only one with these issues as his peers in the draft struggled as well. If im not mistaken Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence were in his draft class as well and didnt have a good rookie year but showed signs of what they could do if given more time to develop as NFL QBs.

    Love that this video has come shortly after the Malik video. QBs who are afraid to target the flat compared to those who thrive targeting the center of the field is very interesting. I would prefer fixing mechanics over decision making. I saw Darnold spin a complete 360° in a clean pocket and throw some of the worst INT's of his career last season. I wouldn't be upset with Wilson as my starting QB in 2022.
