In the USA there are at least 25-50 serial killers active at any given time. It is terrifying to think how many get away with thier crimes because we can't talk about how we caught them.
Don't quite understand why this documentary had to be lip synced with actors... the original footage and audio is probably one of the best examples I've seen.
Agreed .. Bad re-enactment for those who know the original story and have seen the real interrogation. Jim Smyth is good, but he already knew that Williams was guilty before he even walked through the door.
I agree with the unnecessary dramatization with lipsyching actors. It is worth LISTENING to the snippets of real interrogation footage and experts' commentary offering insights and analysis of Williams like no other program
I have seen the original interrogation and it's a masterpiece. However, I am so glad to see these criminal analysts opinions on Russell Williams. I have been looking for a video like this for years.
I was curious to watch this episode bc I had previously watched Russell’s confession without benefit of any “expert” commentary. This gave me great insight into how the people responsible for the production of this program were wanting to spin this interview, and I have to admit disappointment. All I will say is, _don’t rely on this TV show for your information_ bc it’s really sensationalized and mucked up....watch the interview for yourselves.
So what's the point of mediocre reenactments of the interrogations that are available in their raw versions?? Not to mention, the narrated story is factually incorrect!
Wait. Why did he care about his wife's feelings so much? Sure, he loved her but there is something dysfunctional in their relationship. She somehow left him wanting and yearning. He's guilty, no doubt, but I'm wondering if this could have been avoidable.
He confessed openly and in a surprising gore detail....because police were only hours from watching a collection of his murder/rape videos of even greater detail
I went to a regimental ball in Trenton at the air base and ran into him, and my ex and I talked to him and his wife, I honestly can’t believe this is the first I’m seeing this and I never realized I was face to face and talked to, a serial killer. Terrifying and surreal.
My son's girlfriend is in Trenton at this moment as she's from the COMOX AIR FORCE BASE. Here on Vancouver Island today we had The Snowbirds performing & Sunday too. I see they are dealing with sexual abuse that's rampant for years, and glad to hear so less fear for her & other's. ❤
wasn't he embarrassed when underwear and photos of him wearing the stolen items??? and than to put gasoline on an already burning situation - he sexually tortured them and killed these innocent women.
He forgot the golden rule when being interviewed by the police, never talk to the police and never be cooperative, especially if your guilty. Im glad they caught him though. He was one stone cold SOB.
@@DaniHMcV well, I'm just going by Wikipedia. Feel free to check the article links they used as references en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Williams_(criminal)
This entire interview is on video and available…. What a waste of time and money it was to have these actors play it out… the real footage is so much better
That's unnecessary, her looks are not important. It sounds like you're trying to insinuate that if she took more care over her looks then he wouldn't do what he did, which is rubbish.
I have seen this one more than once and don't understand how noone knew where he was going when he murdered those women. I thought the service kept track of their people because sometimes they have to have them return to their job in an emergency. I think somebody knew and ignored it. I wonder if there were other things, sick things, he did that were not uncovered.
I'm not typically a fan of cheesy reenactments. Shows like this usually have some of the worst actors ever. The real version of this interview is absolutely fantastic and no reenactment will ever do it justice. With that said, I have to give credit where it's due. It is incredibly difficult to get the mouth/facial movements exactly right when reeacting audio like this. Most of the time, it's not believable. In most episodes of this show, the actors are believable when doing this.
Ive watched a few vids on this interrogation, I fail to see the brilliance from the cop myself, others had already supplied him with the incriminating evidence prior to entering the room, the tyre tracks, the boot prints, the car spotted near the house, he worked at the same base as one of the victims, the case was cracked before Williams got there, the interviewer did a good job but I cant imagine any other policeman armed with those details wouldnt have cornered Williams.....All these experts in the field of criminal psychology etc say its brilliant so it must be, it must be something to do with him keeping Williams talking.
The brilliance of it was Jim Symth never once confronted Russell Williams with any evidence until the end of the interview..in fact he never even called him Sir or Colonel just Russel putting them on the same level In fact he asked questions that Williams answered that literally Williams himself painted right into a corner with no way out He didnt wear Williams down or bust him with a Perry Mason aha moment he just watched as Williams walked and talked himself into that trap and slowly lowered the door on it
Williams is far too fastidious of a man to have, and with every deviant contact he would have potentially left himself open to exposure or blackmailing by whatever prostitute he was with.
They partly address that question towards the end. There are a number of factors at play. Firstly, they believe he had an obsessive need for a particular form of risk taking - for example, they believe he entered one house naked that he'd broken into. It's the particular kick that he craved. I suspect that was motivated by a specific preoccupation with power and control over women. A lot of sex offenders also commit burglary because it permits them to "violate" and control someone in a different way. They say that he had a very problematic relationship with his mother, who left the family when he was young. What he did was most probably a means to get back control over women, by doing things to them that they didn't consent to. Using a sex worker probably wouldn't have fulfilled that particular desire he had because they would have consented and been doing it by their own free will. Like so many killers, he seems to have been taking the rage he felt against a parent and using other people as a proxy to take it out on. In short, he was using other women as a means to try and rewrite his past, to take out the rage he had against his mother and take back the control that he felt his mother had taken from him. Also: What also isn't mentioned in this video is that he was found to child sex exploitation material in his possession, and often broke into the houses of young girls and stole their underwear. Paedophilia is very often to do with power, control and dominance too.
@@XXX-ru1kk Did you watch this? If so you know that the narrator stated that he kept his pension. Now the narrator may be wrong but that’s all I have to go on.
But she didn't because they hide it well. Just like BTK's wife and Gary Ridgway's, Joseph DeAngelo etc. That's why it's so difficult for the partners in the aftermath because people always assume they knew, and often times, they don't.
Not at all. Offenders like that are amazing at hiding the other part of their lives - psychologists call it "personality fracture". For example, they say that every single one of us will have known or worked with someone who had a sexual interest in children.

Not until he was caught, and you can see that in the police interrogation. His face is bright red, and he keeps smiling and giggling it off.

The two actors fits perfect as Russel Williams and Jim Smyth.
If the definition of a serial killer is 3 or more killings, why is he then called a serial killer?
Because if he didn't get caught he would've probably done it again.
