    On Saturday 31 August 2024 the Springboks defeated the All Blacks 31-27 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg in the Rugby Championship.
    New Zealand led 27-17 with 12 minutes to go before South Africa pulled off a fightback for the ages and secure their third win in a row over the kiwis.
    In this video Peter breaks down the match as it happened while adding historical and tactical perspective in between.

    A classic SA v NZ test match! Peter just bear in mind that next week's test will be the first time the ABs play at Cape Town Stadium & not at Newlands! So therefore it's the start of a new era for them playing in the Mother City!

      Sean, you're quite right! I didn't actually realise that until you mentioned it. I'm from Cape Town myself and it's always irked me how half the crowd cheers for New Zealand in the Mother City.

      Siya should of got one in the WC final for the hit on Ardie. Shit happens. And it happens alot with these incompetent referees. The AB's were way harder done by in this game than the boks were by the officials.

    Wow..what an epic game...I must admit I lost hope with that intercept try and have had about 4 strokes by then....The refereeing in that first 20 minutes was chaotic to say the least and bad decisions went both ways..My opinion on Bongi's try...We were lucky...The ball was between his shoulder and forearm and got shifted by his own momentum and that of the incoming AB player...but there was downward pressure...I guess only Bongi will know and even he might not know..Thanks for a great recap Peter...I am going to watch the game today agian without the stress...heart attacks and utter despair...Enjoy your Sunday...O ja...can't believe the Wallabies walloped the Pumas in Argentina..ok walloped might be a strong word but still

      I'm not lying when I say my hands were still shaking more than an hour after the game ended! Man, I don't know if my insides can handle Bok v All Blacks Tests! Hahaha.
      And yes, with Australia winning that leaves us on 3-0 and the other teams are all 1-2. Surely it's ours to lose from here.

    The TMO had a quick look together with the Ref who was right on the spot.Rule 11 states clearly Bongi's try was legit...ball dislodge by Jordie and ball went straight down so not a knock on

    Were you pacing around the house while trying to watch this game? I was. I rate this game 10 heart attacks out of 10. Sacha was good. Forwards handling was poor. Fassi was not great, got caught out of position multiple times in first half. The ABs were lucky not to have multiple yellows for ruck infringements. What a game.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha, I wasn't pacing but I can tell you I had a very uncomfortable feeling in my stomach! At one stage I felt like I couldn't take it anymore!

      Game footage can be tricky because of rights restrictions. A guy like Squidge (I'm sure you've seen his stuff) has permission from almost every TV network to do it but also he has an army of patrons who support him monthly so his videos on TH-cam don't actually generate ad revenue.
      I'm not quite at that point. Not yet anyway.

    The depth of South African rugby is your big advantage. At this stage, the All Blacks can't match it. The Springboks were always going to be the favourites for this game. The All Blacks are rebuilding after losing so many of their best players to overseas after the World Cup. It was nice to see them dominate and rattle the Springboks though.

    • @NickWilliamson-o1p
      @NickWilliamson-o1p หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Continued: for the first 62 minutes. Peter, I think you could have given the All Blacks more credit for the way they played. Sure, the Springboks won but the All Blacks gave them a good fight.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. Agree our depth is a massive advantage. We've very much embraced the idea that it is a 23-man game now not a 15-man game.
      Yes the All Blacks are rebuilding but I'll say this: They don't have to be in that situation. I personally strongly disagree with the policy of not selecting overseas-based players. South Africa woke up to this a few years ago and we've gone from losing 57-0 to New Zealand to a winning record against the All Blacks in that time frame.
      Could I have given the kiwis more credit? Sure! I'll take that on board for the next video - always looking to see how I can improve and make better videos for you!

    Quick tip: If you want to be a serious analysis channel - great, by the way! - then please could you avoid immediately resorting to “whataboutism” when discussing a controversial referee decision. Yeah, we could look for obstructions and perceived foul play all year long, but each individual case is just that. There is no ‘levelling out’ of referee decisions, just the context of each individual decision.

      Hey Rory. Thanks for your comment and for taking the time to watch my video. I really appreciate that.
      What you won't know about me is that I can't stand that term "whataboutism". To me it comes across as something a politician invented to get out of a tight spot.
      So the way I see it is if I spear tackle you and get away with it and then five minutes later you spear tackle me and get a red card, how is it not correct to discuss the inconsistencies? But yet the politicians will cry "whataboutism".
      Perhaps you feel different but I felt it was certainly justified in this instance.
