On Saturday 31 August 2024 the Springboks defeated the All Blacks 31-27 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg in the Rugby Championship.
New Zealand led 27-17 with 12 minutes to go before South Africa pulled off a fightback for the ages and secure their third win in a row over the kiwis.
In this video Peter breaks down the match as it happened while adding historical and tactical perspective in between.
A classic SA v NZ test match! Peter just bear in mind that next week's test will be the first time the ABs play at Cape Town Stadium & not at Newlands! So therefore it's the start of a new era for them playing in the Mother City!
Sean, you're quite right! I didn't actually realise that until you mentioned it. I'm from Cape Town myself and it's always irked me how half the crowd cheers for New Zealand in the Mother City.
Sam came should have received a red card for that hit on siya
It was a disgrace wasn't it?
Sam Cane should have been given that red card!
Rugby needs to harden up. The game gone soft
Siya should of got one in the WC final for the hit on Ardie. Shit happens. And it happens alot with these incompetent referees. The AB's were way harder done by in this game than the boks were by the officials.
Wow..what an epic game...I must admit I lost hope with that intercept try and have had about 4 strokes by then....The refereeing in that first 20 minutes was chaotic to say the least and bad decisions went both ways..My opinion on Bongi's try...We were lucky...The ball was between his shoulder and forearm and got shifted by his own momentum and that of the incoming AB player...but there was downward pressure...I guess only Bongi will know and even he might not know..Thanks for a great recap Peter...I am going to watch the game today agian without the stress...heart attacks and utter despair...Enjoy your Sunday...O ja...can't believe the Wallabies walloped the Pumas in Argentina..ok walloped might be a strong word but still
I'm not lying when I say my hands were still shaking more than an hour after the game ended! Man, I don't know if my insides can handle Bok v All Blacks Tests! Hahaha.
And yes, with Australia winning that leaves us on 3-0 and the other teams are all 1-2. Surely it's ours to lose from here.
knock on! without any doubt!
officially the try is valid, for history it is knock on.
The TMO had a quick look together with the Ref who was right on the spot.Rule 11 states clearly Bongi's try was legit...ball dislodge by Jordie and ball went straight down so not a knock on
Yes, you're right. I've had a look at again since recording this. Thanks for clarifying. Appreciate that.
Were you pacing around the house while trying to watch this game? I was. I rate this game 10 heart attacks out of 10. Sacha was good. Forwards handling was poor. Fassi was not great, got caught out of position multiple times in first half. The ABs were lucky not to have multiple yellows for ruck infringements. What a game.
Haha, I wasn't pacing but I can tell you I had a very uncomfortable feeling in my stomach! At one stage I felt like I couldn't take it anymore!
Let's do it all again next week!
Thanks for commentary, Peter. Keep it coming! My prediction for the game was SA 31 - 29 NZ. Next weeks game is in my home town. Boks to win again because we have a Bomb Squad, a Flying Squad and a Weekend Special 😂 I will make score prediction after squad selection🤔
Thank you, Jacqui. Glad you enjoyed it. I will indeed keep it coming. Your prediction was certainly far closer than mine was. Well done!
Cape Town is also my home town although I haven't lived there since 2009. I wish I could be there next week but I'm sure you're going to have a blast.
Bomb Squad all the way!
Kurt-Lee went off with a concussion. Expect to see Canon or Mapimpi on the wing next week. Both of them are very good, so I'm not worried about that.
I suspect that is what happened. And as you say, while KLA is an outstanding player it's not as if CM or MM are going to weaken this team. Man, we have such wonderful rugby players in so many different positions these days. I love it!
In the famous words of John Smit ‘Excuses are for Losers’ crying after the fact means zip, zilch, niks. To all the crying AB folk.
Oh yes!! Love it.
It was a true classic. Thank you for the video. Please is their any updates who next on the show ? Please can we get Ricky Januarie
Hi Jason! Ricky will always be special to me because he scored the winning try against the All Blacks in 2008 in Dunedin on my birthday!
That said for the time being I'm not going to be doing any more interviews. Going to do previews, reviews, updates etc. Let's see how it goes.
Thanks for your reply Peter. I have enjoyed your videos.
Only my pleasure. Glad you enjoy the videos. Really appreciate the support and the encouragement.
The bench
Afrikaners build different son
Haha, 'n Boer maak 'n plan!
Just found yr channel - glad to add it to my subs and look forward to hearing more
Thank you so much for the support, Margie! Much appreciated.
I was encouraged by the strength of the All Black scrum & lineout. Obviously a few more things to work on.
Yes, and there are some players still missing as well that can make a massive impact. Best rivalry this is!
Pretty happy with the ABs overall. Too much experience and composure in the Boks bench. AB bench needs a rethink. Congrats Bokke.
Cheers David! Benches definitely made a big difference.
Excellent commentary and analysis. You have earned my subscription.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. I'll continue to work hard for you.
@OvO-OvO1 Likewise, you have earned mine. I just enjoyed the enthusiasm of the man's voice as he described the match's progress and set it in the historical context of games between the two countries. Go Bokke!
no try, man sent to the bin. yeop good win, bunker won it last time. lol, fantastic game biacks.
30 - 16 😂 the boks got dominated, a little more cohesion the ABs put 50 on them
Good Review Peter. 👍.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. You can expect more of these.
Hallo Peter are you still going to do Interveiws?
Hey there! Not for the time being. I might bring them back again in the future but for now I'm going to be doing these kinds of videos. There are about 100 interview videos I've done and I'm not deleting them so they're still all available if you want to check any of them out at any stage.
The lost forward "try" was a great help!
Yeah but performance wise bokka have hit a wall. Couldn't do anything until kiwis were a man down. Down in a area where springboks have their strength and took advantage of it. But mate. You guys played no rugby for 3/4 of the game. What about that knock on???? Lmao!
Chin up mister natural. What about the high tackle?
Congratulations boks …. As you mentioned the first try as being questionable… we have to cop it on the chin it’s not like we haven’t run this race before and the ABs will come back stronger and more confident to hand the boks a defeat that only they can inflict 😊
Cheers, Mark! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate it.
Abs are hopeless ,they ONLY have specialty specific players, and thats y they fall when they come up against the best aka BOKS,NOT Ireland!Boks have too much depth and they play more for than just the game, and when that and youth align,id say Boks will b almost impossible to beat!Boks love what u stand for!👍💪👌💯👍🤝🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
It is scary for our opponents that we clearly have a few gears that we can move up! I can't wait to see this Bok side of ours peak. It's going to be a very bad day for whoever we play that day.
Hopeless? ABs were dominant in first half and led for 60 minutes of the match,
Ellis park was silent with nervous saffas.
Get off the drugs son open eyes yeah
good review of game, just think maybe short snippets of the game footage can help. Just my opinion.
Thank you so much, Allan. Appreciate your feedback and compliments! Always looking at ways to improve.
Game footage can be tricky because of rights restrictions. A guy like Squidge (I'm sure you've seen his stuff) has permission from almost every TV network to do it but also he has an army of patrons who support him monthly so his videos on TH-cam don't actually generate ad revenue.
I'm not quite at that point. Not yet anyway.
You sound very emotional. Feeling alright?
Yes, I feel fine thank you.
This group of springboks surely has given me more mini heart attacks than any other before them, but they are absolute legends in their own right. Truly blessed to have witnessed the last 6-7 years
Haha, yes, I can totally relate to this!
Boks had newbies at 10, 15, 6 and 5 also trying out new youth
And that should be a cause of grave concern for our opponents! Whoo!
Officiating fair = Boks lose. Simple as that...
Somewhat simplistic interpretation ... there is no guarantee that the game would have followed the same track if the try had been disallowed.
Baie dankie vir die wedstrydverslag. Ek geniet dit en waardeer jou insig. Ek sal ook baie hou van 'n onderhoud met Frik du Preez, - speler van die eeu. Cheers,
Dit is my plesier Jan. Frik Du Preez - legende! Ek sal kyk wat ek kan doen maar vir nou eers gaan ek nie meer onderhoude doen nie. Sal weer kyk daarna oor 'n paar maande.
What a game, and it's awesome to see the youngsters coming through in style.
It was a great game for sure. Man, I'm not sure my nerves can handle Springboks v All Blacks Tests anymore!
This isn't analysing like squid rugby
No, I'm not the same as Squidge.
The depth of South African rugby is your big advantage. At this stage, the All Blacks can't match it. The Springboks were always going to be the favourites for this game. The All Blacks are rebuilding after losing so many of their best players to overseas after the World Cup. It was nice to see them dominate and rattle the Springboks though.
Continued: for the first 62 minutes. Peter, I think you could have given the All Blacks more credit for the way they played. Sure, the Springboks won but the All Blacks gave them a good fight.
Thanks for the comment. Agree our depth is a massive advantage. We've very much embraced the idea that it is a 23-man game now not a 15-man game.
Yes the All Blacks are rebuilding but I'll say this: They don't have to be in that situation. I personally strongly disagree with the policy of not selecting overseas-based players. South Africa woke up to this a few years ago and we've gone from losing 57-0 to New Zealand to a winning record against the All Blacks in that time frame.
Could I have given the kiwis more credit? Sure! I'll take that on board for the next video - always looking to see how I can improve and make better videos for you!
Simple. A very weak All Blacks bench and some players lacking experience and even value to the All Blacks.
The match was won/lost by the reserve benches.
Hey but if I had just said that it would have been a very short video! Needed a bit more meat.
I agree, the benches were the biggest difference.
@@frontrowrugby ok, I understand your ”strategie.”
Haha, cool!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏉⚡⚡⚡🥃🍻🥂
🔥💚🥩🍻🙏
I was banking on a 27 all draw ...if we only get one game a year then this would be it.
It was great now we have to try and do it again next week!
It was Jasper Wiese
Thanks for that Terence!
Perhaps the Boks really need to be the underdogs o, if the favourites, they need to come from behind to sharpen motivation, tighten up and win?
I would love to see a shift in our mentality from loving the underdogs tag to being the big dogs! That said that attitude suits the Americans and Germans more than it does us.
Quick tip: If you want to be a serious analysis channel - great, by the way! - then please could you avoid immediately resorting to “whataboutism” when discussing a controversial referee decision. Yeah, we could look for obstructions and perceived foul play all year long, but each individual case is just that. There is no ‘levelling out’ of referee decisions, just the context of each individual decision.
The two "tries" cancelled each other out. No whataboutism, facts.
Quick tip … stop whining😂😂😂😂
Hey Rory. Thanks for your comment and for taking the time to watch my video. I really appreciate that.
What you won't know about me is that I can't stand that term "whataboutism". To me it comes across as something a politician invented to get out of a tight spot.
So the way I see it is if I spear tackle you and get away with it and then five minutes later you spear tackle me and get a red card, how is it not correct to discuss the inconsistencies? But yet the politicians will cry "whataboutism".
Perhaps you feel different but I felt it was certainly justified in this instance.
Again, thank for taking the time to comment and thank you for watching the video!
That's what I think. ;-)
U basicly just talk about what we already saw
Sorry you don't like it.
The Bok won by scoring five points from a knock on..shame..
New Zealand scored a try directly from a knock on too.
if you take that 5 points away and we take the 2 points away from McKenzie's conversion that was taken past the allocated time on the first try then the boks win 26-25... nice try but you still loose 🤣
Remember Cane, who should have received a red card for head contact.
By cheating! That's how. Now FO ‼️
if you take that 5 points away and we take the 2 points away from McKenzie's conversion that was taken past the allocated time on the first try then the boks win 26-25... nice try but you still loose
🤣🤣🤣
but if your life sucks cause the ABs lost then I'm sorry I can't give you a hug son!
@@kesivan FO!

How about taking the seven points away from the Codie Taylor try for obstruction in the maul? I think it was Barrett who shielded Taylor preventing our defenders from being able to get to him.
