Know what I really don't understand? Why do they have 2 aerobars when they could just have one and clasp one hand over the other? Mine broke once and I did that for months of training and it worked great. Seems like a waste of weight and aero to have 2. Obviously you need 2 pads, but you definitely only need 1 centered bar.

    • @ili4707

Love this TT content GCN keep it up! The UCI desperately needs to change the TT file rules, they are borderline unsafe and prevent a ton of triathletes from competing in UCI sanctioned events (which hurts participation in the discipline overall). Even adding +5cm to each of the measurements for extension length would help greatly and revert back to measuring from the axis of the shifter versus the tip. (The existing rule puts those with mechanical shifting at a disadvantage fit wise compared to electronic)

You fail to mention Fabian cancellara who blew away Tony Martin and others in the 2016 men's individual time trials at the Olympics in Rio using what you called the traditional style. you're so called praying mantis position used by Tony Martin at the time and others was ineffective. and Tony Martin ended up 10th using the praying mantis style. in that same year Tony Martin switch back to the traditional style(the Fabian cancellara style because he said he wasn't getting the power he used to from that praying mantis position) and won the Qatar men's time trial finals hands down using the so-called traditional style(which he used till the end of his career)not your praying mantis style. Just because something works in a controlled environment such as wind tunnels and indoor velodromes doesn't necessarily mean it equals power in the real elements.

This is an incredibly ill informed video. CdA is the product of Cd = drag coefficient and A = area of cross section of the moving object.
    1. The units of CdA are square meters. Ollie should know better, since he studied science! If you don't use the correct units for CdA, you don't get the right units for power from the air resistance formula. BTW, some people call CdA "drag area". Get it? Area!
    2. More importantly, Ollie lumps together Cd, which depends on the shape of the moving object, and A, which depends on its size. So, Remco's CdA might be small, be he is also a small rider. If Ganna and Remco had the same shape and hence the same Cd (in the parlance of cyclists -- if they were equally "aero"), Ganna would still have a larger CdA, because he is a bigger rider! The fact that Ollie does not discuss this is inexcusable.
    3. This is the third major scientific mistake I've found in GCN videos and I'm losing my patience with this sloppiness.

@@mbal4052 not true it’s a balance between drag, power, comfort, confidence and most important fatigue. I have seen many extreme aero positions that where set up in the tunnel completely fall apart in a tt. What you can maintain in a tunnel for 4 to 5 minutes often doesn’t work when your out on the road buffeted by the wind.

    1. What about Manon's position?
    2. What about a "mechanical doping" in a form of artificial chests and bellies some riders have used recently?
    PS
I enjoy riding on a tandem with aerobars. Took a while to learn how to keep a balance on turns and less than perfect roads, but... ;)
