  • Conclusion of my mediaeval style folding knife build. Turned out good! I think it's much prettier than the other folder I made but not as clever.. #GaryHuston #Blacksmithing #Farrier #ASMR #Horseshoeing #Fabrication #Ironwork #Hoofcare #welder #repairs #horse #farriery #engineering

I think anything that is forged and made by hand looks better than anything machined. It makes it unique also. In my opinion it is all the small imperfections that make it look nice. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I use a Canon HFS 200 and put the audio on afterwards, then if I make an error I only have to re-record a bit of audio!

I must say that looks like fun. I am anxious to have a go at one myself, as you might put it. I thank you for the very nice tutorial.

Gary, love your blacksmithing videos. My name is Gary also, and I live in Oklahoma USA. I would like to see you do a video on making a nail header. I see a lot of people using a nail header, but not many making one. I would like to see your approach to making one. Keep the videos coming.

I can't even imagine trying to guess and readjust to create a friction holding knife. I'd spend days on just that. And the tip about adding a finger catch to open it is a really good idea. Would you have a link or maybe some more information on your "scotchbright" wheel? It sounds like an in-between of a grinding wheel and a wire brush, which would be very useful. Grinding the blade by hand was terrifying to watch by the way.

I wish I could get more information about the wheel so I could try and get them on-line somewhere but my supplier won't tell me anything! I guess he makes good money from me getting them from him... Why terrifying? You blokes need to grow a pair!! LOL!

Hi, great channel, nice videos that are simple to watch and understand. I`ll definatly try forging few things that you show (the twists first)
Can you make a video on forge-welding? Finding that process a bit hard for now.

i really am pleased i found your video`s.. love the tempo, the explaination, and the quality of the video and audio are superb!! what camera did u use and did u record the audio immediately or afterwards? its so balanced, even when u are hammering
p.s. this medevial style folding knife is great!!

  • @boredtodeathify
    @boredtodeathify 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Should use a light metal piece that can be bent by hand to stick the knife so it doesbt need to rely on friction

  • @garyhuston

It happened in 1927 by Geo Schrade and received a US patent.

@@garyhuston They are probably talking about the schrade wire jack, which is not the same thing as what you made.

Actualy folding knives are known since pre roman iron age. i am not shure about the mettal handles, i would imagine that often they just used wooden or bone ones because metal was expensive...
that leads me to another thing, they did polish theyr knifes rather well, simply because a polished blade will not rost so easy and is easyer to maintaine in a good condition, and polishing is "just" laborintense but its cheap, metal for a new knife is very expensive, so it is cheaper to pay the labor....

  • @Esihij

Found it, thanks. Will try with the rings this weekend,
Used to try the faggot weld (i think this is an english term for welding a piece of metal that is bent to itself), but for some reason I can`t get it done constantly :(
I mostly use the charcoal, but i tought that the reasons might be:
too much air - to much oxigen reacting with the metal making it unclean/scaly
I`ve choose too thin metal that cools down to fast.
