That’s what I was thinking as well. At moments where they could’ve performed a PIT maneuver on the driver they seemed to back off like they were scared to take the risk.

It seems to me that the family car was crucial in stopping this not so high speed chase.
Where I live, this old work truck would probably not even pass inspection because the rear shocks look quite shot (notice, how the rear end bounces).
If they knew they could be shot for running most of them would not run. However why not shoot a hole in the radiator and chase is over.

Ya but come on.. Ya have to think about the ratings. The longer they can keep the chase going on the more eyeballs have a chance to get on and watch it live. Humans love nothing more than vicariously watching things die from a safe distance. I think the Media could surely talk to the PD and get a new policy when it comes to high speed chases. Have like a minimum standard to be met before intervening. Like you have to hit at least 80mph, Minimum of a dozen run red lights, half a dozen tbones, and of course make sure to get the oldest police cruisers taken out so that they can be claimed on insurance. The only instance PD can stop it immediately is if the hit a school bus. Have to let that happen first though. With what we pay for taxes I expect a couple more Helicopters to give me multiple angles and can't we have live cams in all of the pursuit cars giving us a play by play? Ya know, If it can be kept going for an hour minimum we can get some online wagers going on in real time how it will play out.

he was going upwards of 60 mph+, pit maneuvers are usually performed at 30-45 mph.
The issue is that no matter what the police do, they will be blamed. The USA is now a victim culture whereby every police officer is 'out to get you' and a 'racist'. So no matter what they did here, they would have been criticized.

I doubt if there's any other profession where one has to have high patience endurance like the law enforcement officers, especially cops. Well, maybe doctors and nurses. But, my goodness, this is a real test of patience.

Truck weighs more wont work at low speed police car will bounce off and at high speed it will suck you into spin. So police cruiser has three options get embarrassed, die, or wait for him to give up. If you actually knew how a "PIT" worked you wouldn't be raging at screen.

cant pit whenever you feel like it. speed and nearby traffic and whether or not there are multiple units close enough are a huge factor in getting clearance to pit

The thing would spin easily with minimal encouragement, though it'd be less entertaining than it could be because of the long wheelbase. I have no idea where GabeE got his idea about this from.

It is very irritating to watch a Police Patrols chasing a speeding vehicle on the highway just to catch a criminal exposing the life and safety of innocent drivers on the highway.

I wonder why those speeders engage in chase with police. Once his car is Identified sooner or later he will be busted. Helicopters flying above and ground SUVs there is no way to escape other than building their crime.
So, after a 30 minute chase when we finally get to the best part, the crash, foot escape and tackle by the cops the helicopter pilot decides to stay behind the trees so we miss it, can you say waste of time :(

I heard of people who got hit by a fleeing suspect and had to spend 6 hours being interrogated while in custody after being handcuffed and taken to a holding cell..
The cops said it was standard procedure.
Both my parents were killed Feb.6th,1999 as innocent victims during a high-speed police chasing a stolen vehicle. My life has never been the same since Feb. 6th. I was supposed too be with my parents that day. But for unselfish reasons I was not. GOD and my redemer has been in my life ever since strongly.

WTF! I don't understand why the police did not stop that guy earlier? They had all kinds of opportunity, or do they want to see how far they can push the chase making a lot of innocent lives at risk, like the ones in the Dodge Challenger.
Being from Houston I can say that at that time the PD had been wrecking a lot of vehicles and I think they were told to play it safe. The frustrating thing is that it was a weekly occurrence of them following till the person ran into an innocent driver.

Prime example of HPD ineptitude. There were so many times they could have PIT him and ended it, but, no, they had to just chase them all over the place for half an hour till they hit someone else. Un-fucking-believable.
I don't know why but Houston runs like California on the PIT thing. I live in the Dallas suburbs and our city won't put up with that over ten minutes if they can get a safe place to do it. With all the new people moving in here it's more difficult to get a place with no traffic. Our all day traffic is like rush hour was five years ago.
