    First I have heard of multi-purpose paper. LOVE IT. I normally use wax paper or parchment to save images. I love the convenience of using the paper as a "teflon" sheet as well.

    A video on the different effects heat presses have on different brands/types shirts would be good. I recently did a bright pink shirt that the heat press changed into purple whenever I went to do the pre-press. It sent me into a total panic because I thought the shirt was ruined.

Ex: Stripflock / Higher Temp and Easy Weed / lower temp. How do we know which to put on 1st, and what to do to be sure temp & pressure is right for the combination. Thanks so much!

    • @Expressionsvinyls

      Absolutely! The same thing goes - you don't have to do the first layer for the full time but you want to make sure you get the last layer down for the full time.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would want to use the stretch on fabrics that will be stretched a bit. For example, onesies, tighter tshirts, etc. Anything that you plan on stretching for wear.

    Hi Jessica! Thanks soooo much for all these videos! I am new to HTV- should I use a teflon sheet with each press? I read somewhere that the carrier sheets can melt and damage the HTV and the heat platen. Thanks!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Yes a telfon sheet is always a great idea! If you're pressing at the correct temperature for your vinyl the carrier sheet will be fine BUT if your temperature is too hot the carrier sheet will shrink up and curl.

    Always love watching your videos & really enjoying the challenges. 2 questions: I couldn't find the video on "knockout" or cookie cutter layering. Also, where did you get the mermaid design? I've looked everywhere.
    Thanks!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is the knockout video th-cam.com/video/famxMYcuzoU/w-d-xo.html The mermaid is a Cricut Image set called Mermaid Party.

  • @cmills2894
    @cmills2894 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the 'bad example', the shrinking was mainly due to not pre heating to remove the moisture? I assume you didn't wash it when you re-did it correctly on the back? Sometimes I pre heat and then take 5 minutes to align design etc before pressing. How long does a prepress last before moisture is reabsorbed?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, you will only need to pre press it for around 10 seconds. It doesn't need more than that. Also, since there are so many different layers you will want to only start with 2-3 seconds on the lower layers. Don't do the full time until the end. Hopefully this helps.

    I've always been told not to wash the shirts first. Is this correct?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are afraid the shirt will shrink it is a good idea to wash it and get that shrinkage done before you press it. If you are not worried about that prewashing isn't necessary. I would suggest preheating to get all the moisture out of the shirt. There are some shirts that are treated with antifungal that come out of Bangladesh. If you see that on the tag pre wash is necessary to get that off, if not it will affect how your vinyl adheres. This is not very common though. If you do prewash stay away from fabric softeners, as they can also resist the vinyl.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can stick it back in. Something to watch with onesies is all the seams. They can be bulky and make it so the press isnt pressing down on your project evenly. Check out this video if you want more info on that. th-cam.com/video/GJ2wypU6hRc/w-d-xo.html If you dont have a pressing pillow a towel will work. :)

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your carrier sheet is having problems coming off it's most likely that it didn't get hot enough to adhere the adhesive or it got too hot. Here's a handy chart of our heat settings expressionsvinyl.com/machine-settings/

    Hello!!! I'm a newbie. So much so, I haven't even started using my heat press, nor have I started cutting vinyl or buying shirts. You mentioned not pre-washing your shirt, is it necessary to pre-wash a new shirt before applying HTV? I'm asking because I have heard of pre-pressing the shirt before applying HTV but I haven't heard pre-washing. Please help me! Thanks!!!

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, we do a lot of htv on shirts around here and we do recommend that you press the shirt prior to placing the vinyl on it. We have not run into issues of not pre-washing. However, you do want to be careful if it is a brand you are not familiar with or on the shirt itself it give specific care instructions. We generally use Gildan, Hanes, etc brands on our basic tshirts and do not have an issue. Hopefully this helps.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the bottom layer is just one solid piece. Once you adhere that one down then you can layer the other cut pieces on top of it. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    • @alesciamalone
      @alesciamalone 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Expressions Vinyl thanks for your response but I was asking how did you create the background shadow like layer. Was it created in cricut design space? Can you do a tutorial on it?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the image we used in Cricut already had that background layer. In Design Space when you choose your image after adding it to your project you will see all the different parts of it in the Layers Panel on the right hand side. There are usually different layers that are not shown. You will see an eye with a line through it next to the different layers. Just click on that and the next layer will be available to use in your project. Hopefully this helps.
