Thanks for posting this. i've yet to have the pleasure of seeing them live. Zak has such an amazing voice. I wish singers like him weren't so hard to find. I represent a band with label connections and yet cannot seem to find a vocalist of such caliber .
Even though Zak's performance is far from perfect in this video, trust me, this song is very demanding. Especially for the singer' s vocal range, since it features several high C's and one high D. Even a pro has his bad days. Zak is a professional, listen how he saved the situation when he knew he was going off his limits. He just improvised a different melody. That's a part of being a good singer too. Zak's technique is far superior to Jon's.
It's difference between studio and live show where you have to sing over 10 songs, you cant stand it if you don't turn the tone to lower or edit the high melody in the song . If you're the singer you'll know that. He's still the best. I love his voice and Jon also.
Personally, I thought this performance by Zak wasn't half bad at all. Yeah, he's had better moments, but he's still got it. Even though Jon has an awesome voice, I definitely think Zak has more of that voice for the style that Savatage had taken on in the 93-01 era.
this guy is really a pro...sometimes...things get a little bit too much to handle..but this guy took it right on...and kinda improvised.......i used to sing this song when i was in college and i could reach then all those high notes.....but boy...all those years of drinking cold beers really got its toll on me..all i can sing in this song now are the intros......way too much for me now...anyways..i really love this song......great job Zak....anyways ...peace yah all guys !
I would have to say that you pretty much summed up my impression of hearing this version. Though I wouldn't call it laughable but rather, sad. Zak's one of my favorites as well. I can only guess that maybe he was a little under the weather during this performance?
I don't get why Jon Olivia is a smoker .I could just see that as a deal breaker with most Vocalists riding a bus with him .fuck that, nobody in my band smokes . If all the tobacco in the world withered and died i would be happy
DEAR GOD! it's my favorite song of all time, but Zak gets completely out of pitch on this version... it's tragically laughable... I wish I didn't hear this, cause I never thought Zak could do such a thing...he's my favorite singer
This song is tooooooo hard for singin :) and my favorite in Edge of Thorns album.

Aw! Sang the wrong lyrics in the first verse. It happens though! Great song!
@Altostratus Plus, he's been touring for, what is it, 16 years? That's a lot of strain on your voice when you're singing like that.
Guys... give them a break! It is a great song and its good enough that they are still friends and it feels like.. Savatage! isnt this enough?
@Riprandycriss94 that is honestly a legeite concern no mountatinking no savatage
Quem não gosta de savatage bom sujeito não eh.
@geekootz still sounds better then my voice is horrid lol
Ouch he missed all those notes in the chorus
