CANUCKS PETTERSSON SPEAKS AFTER CALL OUT FROM HEAD COACH

- Rick Tocchet called out a number of ''passengers'' following the Canucks' Game 4 loss to the Oilers, saying he needs more players to step up. How did Elias Pettersson react to the veiled callout? What are some of the possible changes Tocchet can make ahead of Game 5? TSN's Farhan Lalji has more.

What do you think is the issue with Elias Pettersson's confidence? Simply productivity or is it something else entirely? 🤔

They got rid of Kuzy to get Elias a better linemate. Instead, they put Lindholm on the third line when Bluegar was just fine and moved Hoggy from the 4th to the theoretical second. Now instead of getting EP40 help they gave the Garland line help it didn't need. Put Teddy back between Garl and Dakota, Put the Eliases and Hoggy together and put Mik on the bottom line in a defensive roll where he's been fine. The current line configs basically ruin the trade and I'm a little surprised that the GM hasn't said something.
Simple, he's checked out. $$$ speaks and he doesn't care anymore. Dumbest contract in league sport history.
Terrible weak soft brain. Always been weak and soft since youth hockey. Wilted under pressure.
Why do you worry about shots? Edmonton had tons of shots right? They scored 14 goals this series so far, you know how many cunucks have? 14
So no issue with shots, they make it count
@@Kitosworld shall I quote you the 99 saying
Go Pettersson go, relax chill, pettersson's got this.
No time 2 relax its the playoffs. They played relaxed for 2 periods and the last minute yesterday what happened lol
He's been playing awful offensively since Feb (and even a little bit in Nov/Dec). He was awful defensively before, but it much better in that area. A player's play doesn't all of suddenly just come back.... maybe for 1 game, but not for several in a row. Guy has not been a threat offensively for a long time now.
I think his offense will come back, but at the start of next season after he's had a long rest and time away from hockey. Unfortunately for the Canucks, they need him now more than ever and not at the start of next season.
@@baiqi44 If Petty can't do it in the playoffs what he does in the regular season does not matter to Canuck Nation. Sign Lindholm and trade Petty. Right now he has no compete level. Looks like a spoiled kid out there. He starts off game five that way, park him on the bench and let him watch his team battle like he should be doing. Some humble pie might be good for him.
Oh he's relaxed. Mentally he's already on the golf course
@@bellamydrake9343 I didn't say Petey can't do it in the playoffs. I'm saying he's not been the same since Feb so this goes beyond the playoffs as his problems started in the regular season. Either he's playing injured (like Zadarov was in 2022 in the Flames/Oilers series) or there's something wrong with him mentally.
I'm saying rest and time away from hockey for several months is what Petey needs. Boeser went through mental health issues and was playing very poorly before this season. Now look at him.
Having said that, I think it might be best to get Petterson traded cause he's a bit weak for playoff hockey and we can't have a $11.6 million anchor in the most important games of the year. Better to spend his money on tam players than on one guy who might or might now show up in the playoffs. He's still doing pretty good defensively though.
Either put him with garland and Joshua. OR add Lindholm to Patterson. Bluster can hold the 3rd line and Aman on the 4th with mikheyev. Lindholm and Patterson can double shift on any line situationally.
I fully agree. I definitely want to see Petey up with Miller and Boeser more often as well.
Bluster and Patterson eh? 🤔
EP40 doesn't win puck battles, he falls down with subtle forechecking by other players.
Bambi40
4 minute Power Play and EP40 can't keep the puck in the zone. THREE TIMES
The problem with the powerplay is that we are so hell bent on skating it in that all four PK guys are right near the blue line, waiting to pressure us. We need to soft dump into a corner and then have someone racing in to win the puck. The PP issues are definitely not all on Petey.
He is a regular season guy
I respect Petey's responsible playing style. It's harder to break out with individual play in the playoffs, especially the bush league NHL where you're catching lumber every time you get near the puck. Keep pushing Petey
Mcdavid does it, so does MacKinnon, Draisaitl, Kucherov, EP40 wants to be in THAT convo, with those players? He's gotta find a way through.
@@LARGO125McDavid is barely visible in this series and he's the "best player in the world." Playoffs are different
@@cascadian19 someone who has 19 points in 9 playoffs games is barely visible...
You're absolutely right, playoffs are different. And Mcdavid and Draisaitl are the 2 best playoff performers since Mario Lemieux. I didn't realize I was speaking to someone with zero hockey IQ.
@@LARGO125 97 has had one good game this series. PP merchant. Try watching the games. I've played for 35 years clown
Play Podz - Pettersson - Hogs
Sounds Risky. Not enough playoff experience
@@DimSumHouse-oy6tu We're not risking much as the other guys aren't doing anything either. At least Podz is going to be laying lots of body. For all the heat Petey is taking (big contract, of course), not enough is being said about Hoglander's struggles at the moment. Hopefully having being sat recently will get him going again. We need him.
Going to be a long summer if he comes out after the playoffs and says he wasn't fighting an injury.
If you cant get pumped for stanley cup playoffs there is something major wrong you may not grt bach here for while think of your teamates who are bustin there guts find that other gear thats what makes the difference in a superstar to average you have to find ways to be better
It's not that he's not getting any points he's not winning any board battles
How he gonna win a board battle against 6 foot 7 Desharnais or 6'4 Darnell Nurse. The Oilers D are big burly men 💪
@@Tribuneoftheplebs Same way anybody else does in the league. Those two guys are the worst D-men in the league at the moment. Nurse -8 is terrible. Oilers would be winning this series without him
100% he avoids checks left and right loses the puck left and right and COASTS
he won the board battle that won the last series.
@@DW-fl3ee he's being paid to score GOALS
Pettersson is one of the slowest guys on the ice in this series, not sure how different line mates will make him skate faster and/or work harder.
why do they say that the defensive game hasn't served them well? It's what got them through the first round and a series tied at 2-2. For a team that wasn't sure about making playoffs I would say it's served them very well. But some of the forwards gotta capitalize on the turnovers.
best believe if he doesn't start scoring and canucks lose the playoffs, this will haunt him all summer
Petey is doing what he can do and Tocs is just saying it how it is but people should realize that some players are banged up so you guys are speculating things that you don,t realize hockey deep down of how the realization of playing in the playoffs.
Sorry about my negative view here but i have felt for a long time that his linemates isn't good enough. Remember the superline with boeser and miller?
I told you so, where are the miller haters now? I knew hughes and pedoson would suck.
'Passengers' is polite. Pickpocket stowaways is more like it.
Said it before and will say it again. You can't win without the gritty Canadians on your team in this league. Regular season is one thing but that extra level you need in the playoffs requires blood and guts. The Canucks don't have it.
Pettersson can't drive his line. It's as simple as that. And don't make the excuse about who is on his line. Hes not good enough to make those other players around him better.
I think he has a bad attitude…and needs to be benched right away.
He’s injured and doesn’t what to disclose, herniated disk in the lower back that gets aggravated when he twists and torques with high power shots, that explains why he isn’t skating hard either. Of course he’s not saying it as he doesn’t want his ass pounded even more. I got the info from Dr O’Brien ‘s office, doctors discuss these cases amongst themselves.
If he's so injured that he's not producing any points, sit him and put in a young kid that's gung-ho to play.
So is Kane, yet he smashes the D in game four anyways, causing the turnover and game winner.
Then put someone in who can play. Right now Petty is taking up a spot another player, any player could make better use of. Give me a break on the injury excuses. If he isn't ready to go to war with his mates than go home to Mommy.
@y0utubedude96 And Canuck Nation says Waaaaa to that.
Not built for NHL playoff hockey. It is what it is.
The whole team right? 2 or 3 regular Canadian players vs Edmonton's 19. Not gonna go far with that.
Petey is built for women's hockey.
@@glennhankins6927 European women's hockey!

There might be some off-ice activities undermining his on-ice performance. He sounded horrible in the interview and not the same hockey star any more at all
Canucks relied on soft swedes for so long...thats one of the problems with the organization. Petterson needs to bulk up not play euro style and play don cherry style..also clickbait when do we see him talk. Last silovs goal was not good
Soft swedes ?
He’s never going to do that. These baby soft Swedes never change. Lekkerimaki will be the exact same.
@@beerme4738 Last time I checked, none of those guys were on the Canucks roster.
Petterson hat trick tonight.
Put him with Joshua and Garland, see what happens!
You'd be far better off to just bench him.
Pettey's had lots of time on the PP and done zip. He's not built for the playoffs, not fast enough, not tough enough
McDavid's "scoring problem" is that he doesn't have McDavid feeding him the puck.
His passes could have made Dave Semenko a 20-goal player!
Oilers have tried plenty of wingers with mcdavid who couldn’t even pot 10 lol
It made Maroon and Kassian 20+ goal scorers, so I can't say you're wrong!
Is it just me or Petey look and seems not 100% mentally
Took the money and stopped skating and turned into weak sauce. I'm a Canucks fan.
Peterson has Skinner vibes, gets down, stays down. Not really mentally tough
EP40 will return and show greatness. I'm sure of it
sure he will.
sure... maybe in Columbus?

Game 5 fatigue sets in. The Oilers played there top players a ton.
At 27 minutes, it's only 4 minutes more than 97&29 have played their entire career. If you're waiting for them to fatigue? You're gonna be waiting a while. And ending up disappointed.

@@LARGO125 a tough 4 minutes. Game 6 should be worse. Fatigue = missing shots and plays you bury when fresh.
Pettersson is Swedish for dog water
Pettersson 3 million dollars more than Miller not a great move by management. Demko's injury is not the problem, Canucks do not have a player that can tilt the ice like McDavid, Makar etc. do. Tocchet got rid of Kuzmenko which was a mistake. Sure he lacked in some areas but he more than made up for it with his creativity on offensive. I wonder if Tocchet wishes he had him now with Pettersson?
Lindholm is ripping it up so probably not
I think Lindholm has been a much bigger part of this playoffs than Kuzmenko would have been. That trade has looked fantastic. I think the 12 M for Petey though is a big mistake
@@Caffeinegoesinface Sure Lindholm is working out but if they traded someone other than Kuzmenko the Canucks would have a player that has more skill than some of the bottom six have. Also Kuzmenko was happy most of the Canucks top players are all to serious when being interviewed, Hughes never smiles nor does Pettersson. Tocchett probably wishes he had changed his attitude towards Kuzmenko as he is now saying Pettersson needs a more offensive player to play with. When Kuzmenko was traded that was when the Canucks problems started.
@@user-de2gc4ov4e they weren't getting Lindholm for a bottom six, or one of our lesser players. They weren't going to give Lindholm for Kuzmenko straight-up. We needed to add prospects and draft picks. Lindholm straight up for Kuzmenko would be a steal imo. He was top line in Calgary, and Selke candidate. But going to be hard to keep here. I liked Kuz, but I don't think he made that much of a difference. This was the best season in years for the Canucks with Kuz being a healthy scratch for a ton of games before he was traded.
We canucks are focusing on first how to defeat the referees then we will beat edmonton later. NHL edmonton officials + Edmonton Coilers
I love your comment, I wanna see more excuses lol
You guys have more PP's than the Oilers
Get your White Flag waving arm ready for game 5. The built in excuse for why you lose is an amazing pre game ritual.
To be fair, Edmonton has been penalized more then Vancouver has this series. You can go check the stats yourself.
You do not speak for the Canucks my guy. My guess is you love to spew your unoriginal opinions at every and all chances. How many regular season games have you watched in the last 5 years? My guess is not many. Why don't you go fly your vegan kite around Stanley Park and take a deep breath, then go learn something about Hockey. Then come back. Cheers
