  • The first full public tour of any of Château de Rosières' buildings. Through babies and pandemic we've been working on this beautiful building for more than two years (with help from experts!) and we're very excited to show you what we've done so far. We'll tell you the history of this fascinating building, the ethos behind our renovations, and what we hope to achieve next!

    My vote is to make the wall panelling higher than the bed frame - I find that a lower wall panelling is more typically used in a colonial style of room decor. Also, (I know you didn't ask) simple wrought iron bed frames would look wonderful in your beautiful rooms.

    The coach house is a beautiful building. Your renovations have been sensitive to its history and yet you have brought it into our time with important comforts like heating that does not intrude visually. Nicely done! And, I vote for the higher paneling.

    So admiring your sensitive reno-conserva-preservation ethos. The reuse of lovely wood furnishings reminds me of restoration of historic building we did in our colonial community, across the sea. I vote higher wall panels. The room has high ceilings and if there is a bed in front it needs to project well above the headboard. The work so far is exceptional. I love the attention you give to the preservation of the features. It is going to serve the building well for the next few centuries.

    The coach house before and after pictures reflect all the hard work that went into restoring this historic building. The renovations look stunning already. Can't wait to see how it looks finished. I think the wood paneling needs to be higher rather than lower. It will appear more luxurious with the higher panel. Praying you get it done before the baby come. Clement is such a well behaved cutie pie 😍😘

      @sarahstainthorpe116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have done an amazing job on the coach house. For the bed room paint I would try and match two colours from the stone work ,lighter colour on plaster board and medium colour on the panels. The panel height I would match up to the panel on the doors ,so it all lines up. Just a thought.

    Love the introduction sequence, really worked the imagination.
    What I find astonishing is the amount of wealth the past owners must of had.
    The staffing that was involved and where they accumulated their wealth- sugar plantations in the French Caribbean ? Slave trade ? Trade with the Ottoman Empire?
    Amazing
    And then
    Suddenly the World Wars and everything came to a complete halt
    Even after the French Revolution, French Aristocracy apparently continued…🧐
    Interesting and Loved the Carriage House - going to be amazing
    Thank you for sharing 🙂.

      Thank you! Actually this traditionally a very poor area and the chateau itself was never a grand, showy chateau but always a working estate. They had huge amounts of land in the valley and earned the money they needed from that. Plus local labour was so cheap.

    You're doing a beautiful job. Can see why you are so proud of it. Will be an idyllic place to stay. I agree with Marc, and think the paneling should be higher- otherwise may be dwarfed by the stone walls.

  • @florentinalily

    just a lovely vlog; thankyou. we renovated a barn and put the plugs in the floor and wiring through the pointing with spots which are operated remotely so we didn't have to put in switches and leads on the walls. Lower panelling... higher is reminiscent of the 1920's? On the other hand.. if it was panelled to the ceiling - that would be totally in keeping with the age of the building.. The pinky white you would love is Little Greene's China Clay Distemper.. available in France or by post.. I have it everywhere and it covers anything with a lovely lime softness - but you have probably already seen it..

    I think the coach house is a lovely building and will be very cozy for the winter. In my humble opinion, I would keep those walls plain and painted in a light colour. This would make the room feel a lot lighter and it would be brighter in the winter months as the sun reflects off of it. You have so many wonderful historical features in the rooms that it would allow them to shine and be the feature. Keeping it simple would also be cheaper and faster. It will look lovely any way that you do it. Thank you for sharing. Jean

    So happy to see you back & all looking happy & well. Thank you for the Vlog & showing us your progress. On your survey regarding wall paneling, I think the 3/4 height looks more historic vs the 1/2 wall height, which is what we have in colonial homes in America. Either is a nice break from all drywall. As an added option, a hand plaster skim coat over the drywall will also add a more hand crafter look/ feel. The plaster can be colored & then I think it’s a wax coat that gives it a soft, aged finish. That treatment on any drywall will look beautiful with whatever paneling height you choose. 🥰

    • @Chroniclesofrosieres
      @Chroniclesofrosieres  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is interesting Teresa as we've been going back and forth about whether to do straight paint or plaster. We really wanted a plaster finish but we've struggled to find one that looks good that can be put straight onto drywall. They just end up looking like grainy, flat walls that will collect dust. We have one more to try though!

    I'd suggest the lower wood panels to reduce the plaster board could be approx a metre high similar to a Dado rail height, to protect soft furnishings when pushed against the wall. Also you could cover plywood panels in pattern material and fix to the wall above ...

  • @irvanairvana4055

    Love that you are such empathetic custodians of the Chateau. Its interesting that ETTC DIY are no longer featuring your property. Great in-depth tour, thanks for sharing. I love the stone walls in the upstairs rooms, they are the main feature of the rooms for me (along with all the other features in the stone) and make the rooms sing, so i wouldn't pop in panelling either lower or higher, I'd save that cost and put the money towards something else. They are guest bedrooms, which will be filled with some of your beautiful antiques and complimentary furnishings. I'd go for a warm tone in whatever colour palate you choose to bring a feeling of warmth to the room in contrast to the texture of the tiles and stone. Might be worth asking if you have any designers amongst your subscribers to give you some advice and also the best place for bed position, taking into account flow of room, and position of bathroom, all important with interior design. Hope this helps x

    The floors upstairs are spectacular! The wood panels would be beautiful just no higher than 4 feet though. Some lovely original features upstairs! Really enjoyed this! Thank you I’m excited to go on your journey with you.

    You have done an amazing and beautiful job of the coach house. It is a lovely building with the stunning stone walls. Thank you for taking the time to explain your plans and the history of the building. I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania where many of our historic homes and barns/outbuildings are made of quite similar stone. I think you are an amazing family. 💕💕💕

      You're so kind! And how interesting that it resonates with your home county, so far away!

    Just came back to watch this one to see if I could get my answer about you guys moving in to the coach house. Now it makes sense. I do not know how I missed this one. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

    Just perfect Marc and Amy, everything is absolutely wonderful and cosy. My vote ( if you have not finished yet) is a higher wood panelling much grander, bit of glamour xx

    🌞 Hi Amy and Mark
    We loved your beautiful newly renovated cottage. It's quite charming! Just wanted to tell you the beautiful shelf that you have in the middle downstairs in the cottage that you said was used in a laundry mat, I more think its original use was a bakers rack that was invented in the 17th century. It will be beautiful in your kitchen for kitchen decor and it's quite rare as it has the iron decor on the side of it. Most of them are more decorated with wood trimmings.
    Bye for now.
    🦚

      Hello! Thanks for your sweet comments! I think the sound (or maybe Marc’s accent) mustn’t have been completely clear as we’ve known since we bought it that it’s definitely from a bakery - it has gorgeous wheat motifs on it and even the name of the original bakery in Lyon - that’s one of the reasons we loved it! 😊
