One of the greatest moments in any Brandon Sanderson book, "IS THERE NO HONOR"

Fellas…I found you guys on TikTok and want to applaud the show. You literally talk about the content I inject consume. Brando Sando is also my favorite author (both alive and dead) so I loved this deep dive. I would love a Patrick Rothfuss deep dive - maybe we could figure out what his blockages are in the deep dive. Again, love the show, continue the effort!

THANK YOU for the encouraging comment!! And great idea - we have the next several episodes planned, but will try to fit a Rothfuss episode at some point. That’d be a lot of fun

Mistborn eras: Era 1 Medieval Fantasy. The Darklord has won and ruled for a 1000 years. A team is going to steal from him. Era 2 Industrial Era Western. Buddy Cop mystery. Era 3 Urban/present day Fantasy. Unwritten yet. Era 4 SciFi/Future time frame. Unwritten yet.
I'm so interested to see how the magic system evolves into SciFi and what characters or there descendents show up in the pages.

Brandon Sanderson was unknown to me until he was picked to finish The Wheel of Time. And now he's by far one of my favorite author.

I'm not a huge Wheel of Time or Brandon Sanderson fan, but I do acknowledge what a feat is was that he finished a beloved series and most people thought it was done well. That alone is a lifetime achievement not even counting the countless other beloved books he's written. I hope I can connect with his stuff at some point the way other people do.

Another problem he has mentioned is that it is difficult to bundle the other stuff with a book for retail. The literally placing on the shelf. He owns audio book publishing, Mainframe as well.

Alcatraz vs Evil Librarians is really good for adults. Targeted 11 to 14 y/o. MC is the narrator the 4th wall and has content for adults. The Library Ladder did an excellent video on the series.
The Reckoners series is awesome if you like the Amazon show The Boys. The premise is "Epics" have superpowers and take control of cities. There is a human resistance group. A teenage boy looks to join it and he is only person that has seen the Superman type character bleed. Highly recommended. Plus the cooperative board game based on the books is fun/good.

I wonder if he would go back to the Wheel of Time books he worked on and make changes to them. Similar to what Stephan King did with the Gunslinger, the first Dark Tower book.

I feel like I'm spamming you here and in messenger chat on facebook but just discovered your channel recently and totally loving all your content about various books, movies and series. My husband has the harsh rating scale of Richard but without the desire to articulate why he rates like that and I force it out of him. I feel like Austin vocalises how I feel about many things haha - outrage when his beloved things are bagged out by someone else.
But chiming in. The Alcatraz series is good but despite being young adult, there are a few gore/violence elements that are a bit adult in nature and to be honest kind of shocking ... Didn't expect to get a Mola Ram vibe at the end there, Mr Sanderson
The Skyward / Cytonic series is very good and particularly enjoyable if you also listen to the audible narration - US version. The narrator has what I would describe as a very heavy American accent (as opposed to the neutral one that I tend to prefer) but she voices the cuter characters in a way that is beyond adorable.
I believe that Janci Patterson who has helped Sanderson write the novellas from Skyward series and also the Bastille book in the Alcatraz series is also a former student of Sanderson's.
The Reckoners series as others have pointed out is kind of like a young adult version of the Boys. It's enjoyable, but it's probably my least favourite Sanderson series even though I normally like super hero stories. I feel like Sanderson has a certain way of writing the female quasi-romantic interests in the Reckoners series and also Bastille from the Alcatraz series - not sure why because his other characters are usually very nuanced and unique. I've read all the Reckoners series including the Lux audio-only book.

My first introduction to b Sanderson was actually his lecture series. I thought they were informative and well thought out so of course I wanted to read some of his stuff.
So after asking a friend which book to start I was recommended to start with mistborn just as this podcast gave.
And after reading mistborn era 1, I honestly had to say I was let down. Don’t want to get into details since the dude to the right might (emphasis on might) read it in the next 200 years around the time his own book will be done. Now I know I’m in the minority here, and I can be a bit nitpicky(if someone is being generous in describing me) but a my friends who read it acknowledge that my critiques are accurate to some degree.
I’m doing my best to continue on reading as I’m aware he has more works acclaimed more highly, to give him a fair shake. But as to what the man to the right said (paraphrasing) ‘I didn’t really see his personal views affecting his works’, I was able to see them within a few chapters and confirmed them later. Though other fans who had read far more than me were surprised like the man to the right so I don’t know if this is me being astute, or lucky or whatnot, but regardless, it might just be a personal taste thing here, but can’t say I loved the series, and I have to be honest that his personal views affected his characters (as it happens for all writers myself included) and did contribute partly to me not being a big fan, but o don’t think they were the only thing.
And don’t get me wrong, I think much of what was said here is true, he is a prolific author who cares about his works and fans, and I did enjoy the first bit of mistborn 1 and parts of the 3rd book. But mistborn 2 is one of the worst books I’ve personally read in regard to how much it destroyed the development built up in both world and characters of the first book, as well as let me down hard on the entire plot premise.
So if you enjoy his works I’m glad, seems you’ll have a vast and freq updated library to choose from, but for now for me, this is one train i just don’t find myself getting onboard with
