- Los Angeles, CA, March 22, 2024 - The City of Los Angeles recently initiated a thorough cleanup of Venice Beach, with a special focus on the restrooms, a common makeshift shelter for the homeless. This move is part of a broader effort to improve public amenities and tackle homelessness.
Led by the Department of Public Works and Recreation and Parks, and supported by Action Cleanup Environmental Services, the operation saw teams in protective gear removing hazardous materials, emphasizing worker safety and public health.
Action Cleanup Environmental Services took charge of sorting debris, isolating dangerous items like batteries and syringes, allowing the Public Works team to focus on non-hazardous waste. This detailed approach is a cornerstone of the city's comprehensive strategy to address homelessness and uphold public health.
Regular cleanups are also conducted along the Venice Beach Boardwalk every Friday, overseen by Los Angeles Park Rangers, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. These efforts are part of a city-wide initiative aimed at providing immediate relief and tackling the root causes of homelessness.
Councilwoman Traci Park has played a crucial role in coordinating these efforts across various city departments. Additionally, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) has been actively supporting the homeless during these cleanups with essential services, such as food, water, and hygiene kits, highlighting a compassionate and holistic approach to the issue.
Notably, no citations for public camping violations were issued, reflecting the city's preference for supportive and sustainable solutions over punitive measures.
This latest operation at Venice Beach underscores Los Angeles' dedication to creating lasting solutions for homelessness, focusing on immediate assistance and addressing deeper issues, aiming for a significant and lasting impact on the community.

I remember so well how nice it was back in the 70 s when me and my friends would pile into my VW for the beach. And wed spend all day having fun. It was clean and no dirty birds . Ugh...

Why do the homeless need to utilize the benefits of society while not feeling the need to contributing towards it? Yeah man, I still wish I would’ve moved out to Venice when I had a chance, I spent quite a bit of time out there when I was living in Arizona, and I just love the vibe, how there’s never an adult moment and there’s always so much to see. All the musicians are the colorful characters, but unfortunately, I assume that the homeless situation is just going to keep getting worse and worse because I know that homeless people dream of moving out to Venice Beach like it is heaven because they obviously are very like hands off and there are so many social support systems out there, so as long as you get a free meal every day, you find somewhere to lay down, and the weather is always 70 and sunny. I would rather be homeless there than anywhere else too.
Then you should move to Portland, you'll love it there.

She needs intervention. I will always believe it is possible to have a relationship with her family again. Kids are easily controlled by influences subjecting them to view her as hopeless. I’ve lived through it….it’s possible for her to change. It took 13 years for my daughter to get her kids back….but she did. She has to want it bad enough to change. Maybe she doesn’t now….but eventually she will. The Rocks are for her to keep for her children until she is with them again.
